Visiting Florida From Uk, Needs Some Advise Please!

Hi all, I'm new to the site!  I live in the UK and am visiting Florida with my family in July for our holiday.  My 7 year old daughter has celiacs and wondered if anyone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction as to which restaurant chains/ fast food outlets offer gluten free choices.  McDonalds in the UK are fairly good where she can order a burger without the bun and the fries are ok, no cross contamination but I believe it's a different story in the US, is that correct?

 

We are visiting Orlando for a week then travelling down to the Keys for a week so I'm trying to gather as much info as I can as to where she can safely eat without the hassle of trawling round various restaurants!

 

Also if anyone has any recommendations as to which supermarkets have a good 'free from' gluten free selection I would be really grateful!

Disneyworld is GREAT for G F peeps like us. They take gluten (and all food allergies) seriously. We have many people on here who write about their very positive family holidays there. 

 

Publix Markets here in Florida have many G F options on the shelves and Udi's and Rudi's breads in the freezers.

 

I know some people have good experiences at Outback. I like Bonefish Grill, but it can be pricey for a family to dine.

 

I am sorry I unable to tell you about fast food chains because honestly, I do not go to them.I am sure some other people will chime in here with suggestions for your family. I am pretty sure McD's does the same here--bunless burger and dedicated dryers.

(I am sure if I am wrong about that, someone will correct me)  :)

 

When you go to Key West, find Kermit's Key Lime store and get some of his frozen gluten-free key lime pie.

It's in a small case on the right hand side marked GLUTEN FREE! when you walk in.

Sit outside by the Koi pond and let it melt a bit (which will not take very long in July :D ) and enjoy! 

I ate mine still frozen because I could not wait.

My wise friend KarenG suggested that a celiac support group may have more relevant and current info for you. (I am not really in the Orlando area)..so maybe you could try them?

These are national chains that do a good job of gluten-free that you might see.  You can google them before you go to see what kind of food they serve and where they are located.

 

Fast food - 

Pei Wei - small gluten-free menu but good

Five Guys - burgers

Chick- Fil-A  - grillled chicken fingers and fries and shakes

BJ's Brewhouse

 

Outback Steakhouse

 

Red Robin

 

California Pizza Kitchen

 

Bonefish Grill

      I forgot to add a status update on my health. I've had no issues. Been staying away from the foods I know cause GI problems: alcohol, peanuts and mayo. Stools are well-formed and of normal frequency. Consumption of gluten continues to have no effect.

      I was also told I had IBS years ago like literally it's just IBS the docter said I've had lots of the symptoms you say there plus much more but I'm convinced it's not just IBS although I feel very sorry for people who get told this too because IBS is a real problem for people too it's awfull how much ignorance is around in the world these days from docters...

      Thankyou for that information yes I totally relate to that it's a very good read and I've felt like that too to the point were going out for dinner was aniexty before I even left home and it's funny her name is jean because that was my grandma's name and I also believe she coeliac undiagnosed because I look back now and she couldn't tolerate most things...

      I was also told I had IBS years ago like literally it's just IBS the docter said I've had lots of  the symptoms you say there plus much more but I'm convinced it's not just IBS although I feel very sorry for people who get told this too because IBS is a real problem for people too it's awfull how much ignorance is around in the world these days from docters try the elimination diet like I did gluten free I also did lactose because it was still bothering me I found a real big change I've read some members here say  it can be quite hard to get a diagnosis and help but there is plenty of self help here it's not wrong to self diagnose if you find that it truly is a Life changer be true to your own needs and ask people already suffering for advise it's about your quality of life now and for future this us were I'm heading if I have no luck with docters I will have luck helping myself 🤗
