True? Maxwell House Instant Coffee Gf?

I just got a list of gluten-free foods from Kraft Foods

and they say that their Maxwell House instant coffee is gluten-free. I had heard that all instant coffee cannot be gluten-free because of something they add on the production line to prevent clumping.

Is this really gluten-free? Are any other brands of instant coffee gluten-free?

thanks

In four years I've never found an instant coffee that wasn't gluten-free in the U.S.

Read the ingredients--if it says 100% coffee and nothing else, then it is fine. Be very leary of flavored coffees, they do many times contain gluten as do flavored teas. Always read the ingreds, never take anything for granted. I just found this info on an MSNBC website, by Phil Limbert:

Hidden sources of gluten:

Many vitamins and medications can contain gluten in their additives. Always check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medication.

Be careful of cross-contaminating foods. This can happen in the toaster, deep fryer, griddle, etc.

Imitation seafood and instant or flavored coffees and teas

Glue on envelopes and postage stamps

Chewing gum

Some lotions, creams, and cosmetics

For more information go to www.celiac.org.

I  thought instant coffee was gluten free as well but apparently there is a cross contamination problem within the production process. I couldn't figure out what was causing my stomach problems and hives for a couple of weeks. I was told about the instant coffee issue and sure enough, as soon as I stopped drinking it and went back to brewed coffee, everything cleared up. Maybe it's just certain brands but this one said 100% coffee.

Just some info for anyone who likes the imitation seafood, the brand TransOcean is all gluten-free.  My husband makes up a seafood salad once in a while and I like it on cloud bread or rice cakes with some lettuce and tomato (or you could use it in a lettuce wrap).

Also, has anyone found any flavored coffees or flavoring you can add to coffees that are gluten-free?  I know there are some flavored creamers that are gluten-free but some have corn syrup or soy or other ingredients I try to avoid.  I'd love to find some flavored coffees that are safe.  Any brands anyone has tried and  had good luck with?  I'd especially like to find decaf flavored coffee too.

The main sales rep has celiac in the family and I have tested all the flavors..and reviewed most of them. They are all gluten free and the dessert flavors are great to enjoy many flavors a bit. Try with a sweetener to really bring them out and I found Decaf to best best for my gut.

Thank you! They have a lot that sound so good.

Ennis, I meant to ask you, are your coffee reviews for this brand online anywhere to read?  You also mentioned some flavored drops you recently discovered that you liked and I think had reviewed, and I was wondering about those reviews too.

The flavor drop company does not post their reviews it seems as their site is messed up and has not let people post them in years (capella). The coffees, if you look under reviews you will often see mine as Ennis or Erogo.....Seems some are lost....hmm need to redo some but here is a example Open Original Shared Link

Thanks Ennis.  There are so many flavors I want to try, and I don't know what to try first. I emailed them and asked if they could consider making more flavors available in their trial sizes.  Maybe if more customers ask them that, maybe they will consider it. How fun it would be to be able to get a bunch of different trial sizes to sample. Sadly, not a single one of the many flavors I am most curious to try are available in their sample sizes.

Your review for the chocolate glazed donut flavor sounds good!  I will go look for reviews for the flavors I am most anxious to try first and see if you have any reviews for them too.

...I saw your review for the Amaretto Almond Biscotti flavor. That is one I am really wanting to try.  Have you also tried the Almond In the Mood For Love, and/or the Amaretto one yet, to compare to the Amaretto Almond Biscotti?  This is where if they had all the flavors in trial sizes, it'd be so great.  I want to try all three, but that adds up in cost when you are trying for the first time to even see if you are going to like it or not.  Especially considering there are other flavors besides almond/amaretto that I really want to try out too. But I love almond cookies, amaretto, and marzipan flavors, and I'm not sure what one to try.

I had a blueberry crumble coffee once that was so delicious.  But have had two other blueberry coffees since then that I didn't like.  And there are a variety of different chocolate flavors, caramel flavors, etc. on this coffee site, it's hard to decide what chocolate one to try, what caramel one, etc.  I guess I'll have to do eenie-meenie-minie-moe, lol.  That Highland Grog one sounds really good too, and I just saw your review for that.  Your reviews are very helpful.  You actually describe the flavor where as some other reviews just say they liked it or it was good. I really appreciate hearing about what the flavor is like.

I might as well try one or two of the trial sizes, even though they are not on my top favorites to want to try first, but the price is good and who knows, one might become a favorite.  The Jamaica Me Crazy actually doesn't sound bad.  So many tempting flavors though on this website!  I need to stop being so indecisive and pick one already, and order, because I can't wait to get some and give it a try.

In the time leading up to the blood draw for the antibody testing, attempt to consume at least 10g of gluten daily, about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread. Concerning the two antibody tests I suggested, the "total IGA" is not a test per se to detect celiac disease but to check for IGA deficiency. If you are IGA deficient, the test scores for individual IGA tests will be artificially low and can generate false negatives. The TTG-IGA test is the most popular test ordered by physicians when checking for celiac disease, and considered to be the centerpiece of celiac disease antibody testing, but it is not the only one. Ideally, others would be ordered but cost containment in medicine being what it is, physicians seldom order a "full celiac panel" at the outset. Here is an overview of the tests that can be run:

Thanks for the reply, I will ask for the antibody test. FODMAP does not eliminate gluten so it shouldn’t affect the results.

I would ask to have celiac antibody blood tests done. These tests would not be valid, however, unless you were eating normal amounts of gluten for weeks or months leading up to the blood draw. So, not sure how the FODMAP diet figures into that. Ask for a minimum of 1. total IGA and 2. TTG-IGA. "Villi are swollen, congested, and shorter." "Moderate chronic duodenitis with loss of villi." These two lab findings you list are classic signs of celiac disease but can also have other causes.

I never said anesthesia. Medical companies can of course change their ingredients at anytime. What may be listed as gluten free on a website may not be updated so always good to check with pharmacy or the medical company itself.

So there can be gluten in pain meds, but I've never heard of it in anesthesia before. Do you have any more info on this claim, perhaps a link to a source?
