I have never seen that in the stores around here Ruth, I will have to do some more hunting.  There are three grocery stores in this area and a Food Co-op, I will probably have better luck with co-op.  Thank you.

Not all butter substitutes have soy. :)

Are you familiar with these brands?

I will be looking for those too. Really wanted something in my rice tonight. Thanks Ruth!
BlessedMommy Rising Star

No problem! I hope that you can find them.

I don't know where you live, but in our area it's really easy to find the soy free earth balance version. I think that even Wal-Mart carries it.

I know how it goes with the insurance, I am still paying deductibles from years ago that I had to put on a credit card or be turned to collections for, I could never get one year paid before the next year started.  I love how they make you pay 10% and nothing less is good enough.  My ex-husband made me take all that debt when we divorced too "they aren't my medical bills", even though some of that is two kids. I must have been the only one present for the making of them :).

I am dairy and soy free because they both bother me.  Makes it fun when trying to put butter in anything :)  Butter doesn't bother me as much as the soy in the butter substitutes so that is good.  Just so it isn't a recipe that calls for a lot of butter.  I hope I get the dairy back eventually, it really is a pain with all these other intolerances.  I can't eat garlic, eggs and whole rice is a problem too.  I can have rice flour but not a bowl of rice. Same with the eggs, I can eat them incorporated into a recipe but can't just sit and eat an egg. Pretty much I am sticking to whole foods.  My family is just stuck eating what I make unless I get ambitious enough and freeze what I can eat into single serving.  Been a lot of chicken soup here going on.

I am really not expecting much at the doctors tomorrow. I would be amazed if I actually come home with answers.  There is no blood test for Fibro and with a lot of the symptoms overlapping I really don't think he will be quick to say it is Fibro. I hope they switch meds though because I am two months straight with an NSAID and I can tell when my 12 hours is going to be up about 2 hours before.  It can't be helping the belly much either.

One foot forward, one day at a time. Hugs right back!

It's crazy how much it all costs too. Urgh. My son's best friend and family went to California on vacation this summer. He asked if we were going anywhere...ummm...nope...medical bills. Sad. Just have to keep hoping that we get better right?

I've decided it's best to go in to the doctor expecting nothing...that way you don't get let down. It can feel devastating. And hey...you may be pleasantly surprised!

Btw...I miss dairy...A lot. Hmm...not sure if it bothers me or not. Just felt I had to try something.

Breyer's makes a good dairy free ice cream so I haven't had a problem with that, and I have been substituting almond milk in anything that calls for milk without a problem.  It's the cheese that gets me (anyone can chime in with a good cheese substitute :) ).

I am going to put my medical file under my pillow tonight and hope the diagnosis fairy visits me after I wake up with a sore neck from sleeping on a book... haha

BlessedMommy Rising Star

I didn't know that Breyer's made a dairy free ice cream! I'm going to have to look into that.

BlessedMommy Rising Star

So far I've gotten only google results for "Breyer's Lactose Free Ice Cream." Do they have a completely dairy free one as well?

My bad, it's lactose free.  Had to go look at the container.  Sorry to get your hopes up :(

Don't drink coffee, too hard on the belly.

My GP thought two months ago that I had Fibromyalgia and he put me on Nabumetone twice a day and my GI has me on Dicyclomine too to help with muscle spasms and pain.  I asked about getting on some meds that are geared more towards fibro and the Rheumy told me to talk to my GP because I am on so many different meds and he doesn't want to mess with them.  I called to see what they had to say but my GP and his nurse are gone today so I will call on Monday.  The Rheumy told me that I have had classic symptoms for eight years and he was shocked that I wasn't sent to them sooner.  Oh well what's eight years of extra pain, right?  I honestly don't know much about Fibromyalgia except what I read in the booklet that they gave me today. I didn't want to read about it earlier and be biased about my symptoms so I thought it would be better not knowing.  Going to be researching my options for meds though and asking about it on here since I know there are others that have it.

On a separate note, I managed to eat last night and have felt pretty good most of today.  No stomach pain or bathroom stuff.  Hopefully really sticking to egg light, soy free, dairy free, garlic free and gluten free I will see some improvements.  I bought enough stuff to make chicken soup for me for about the next two weeks.  I don't even care because it tastes good and has been the one thing in three months that has never bothered me.  This will be the fourth time I have made a rather large pot, the last one was over two gallons lol. I could eat it for all three meals.  Now I need to go make soup :)

Coffee is so good!  I love it...and I'm weaning of of it.  I was at 3 cups a day...now at about 1 1/2.  But, I'm sad...no gluten, no soy, no dairy, no egg, no coffee.  I really want chocolate and I can't find any that doesn't at least have soy!  But, I'm hoping that this will somehow help something.  Every day is frustrating.

Your chicken soup sounds great...care to share your recipe?

If the coffee doesn't bother you - have a cup!

These might help the chocolate cravings-

And some more expensive chocolates are soy & dairy free, too

Thank you again Kareng! In such need of chocolate now.

I don't know that coffee bothers me. The problem I'm having besides this peeing thing is a bloated feeling all the time. It's so uncomfortable. Any thoughts? So...I decided to cut out dairy, soy and eggs for 2 weeks. See if I feel better. Then try to add back in one at a time. I was thinking maybe the coffee could be contributing to bloating. I just don't know. I'm very much struggling and searching.

Hi Icelandgirl,

Another option for dairy, soy, egg free chocolate are these peanut butter cups (if you are eating nuts):

Open Original Shared Link

My health food store has them along with the Enjoy Life chocolate Kareng suggested and they are so yummy, but way overpriced, so I save them for a special treat. I get the bag of Enjoy Life mini chips and eat a few whenever I am craving chocolate and the bag last a long time since they are mini chips.

Edited to add- I see those peanut butter cups have soy lecithin in them. Sorry! They are delicious if you find out soy is not a problem.

BlessedMommy Rising Star

Oh my! Those look good!

I'm dairy free (and gluten-free of course), but not soy free, so those look like they would be awesome!  :)

No, I am not a coffee drinker-never was.  I use coconut milk as a dairy substitute.  Actually, I am looking for a new one as I discovered that coconut milk has estrogen which I am working on lowering my levels.  A little bit sure doesn't seem to hurt me.  My tummy is debloating like crazy lately.  I have some theories why, but???

I'm sitting here reading old posts, and wondering if your issue ever resolved itself? I'm so curious! You were so miserable I do so hope you are well.

Hi Victoria

I hope you get some replies as some of these people are still on this board.

Is this something you are suffering from? I thought I'd just let you know that I had this very badly at diagnosis, and it went on and on for some time. I had pelvic u/s and also a precautionary sigmoidoscopy - all was clear.  In the end what really helped was giving up all dairy for a few weeks.  It pretty much stopped - I missed my dairy though, so reintroduced it. But it was good to know it was bloating that was causing it.

But the pain was also due to something else. I still get pain to the left of my groin/pelvis when I've been carrying heavy bags and doing a lot of walking.  I have an issue with my sacroiliac joint.  Look it up - it is a common problem for coeliacs.  The pain transfers to the front of the groin, and also to the buttocks.  If I touch my left sacroiliac joint now it is really tender.  But with it I have an accompanying feeling of pain and pressure in my left groin/pelvic area, which reminds me of the time when I was expecting a baby , a simliar type of pressure.

I hope you hear from others but maybe this will help?

Hi Christiana, thanks for the reply. I am both interested in the outcome of this story for curiousity and for how it relates a bit to me,

Is your pain and pressure similar to the feeling of all your insides about to slide out onto the ground? It is similar to carrying a baby in the third trimester! I get this when I've been standing and walking for most of the day. There is also pain presenting in my Pelvic area, although I thought this was from a nerve cluster that was damaged during my hysterectomy .

Is there anything you do about this?

thanks again!

There’s a Cosco in Auckland in New Zealand. It’s a bit away from where I live but it’s worth the travel for me. Very appreciative of your advice.

It seems you have proven that you cannot eat gluten.  You've done what your doctors have not been able to do in 40 years. That's your low vitamin D, a common symptom with Celiac Disease.  Zinc is also a common defiency.  Its an antiviral.  that's why zinc gluconate lozenges work against airborne viruses.  Vitamin D and the Immune System+ Toe cramps, I find 250 mg of Thiamine helps.   When I started GFD I counted 19 symptoms going back to childhood that improved with Gluten Free Diet and vitamin D. I still take 10,000 IU a day to maintain 80 ng/ml and get it tested 4 times a year. Highest was 93 ng/ml and that was at end of summer.  Any excess is stored in fat or excreted through bile.   The western diet is deficient in many nutrients including choline and iodine.  Thats why processed foods are fortified.  Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of vitamins and minerals from the small intestine damage.  GFD stops the damage, but you will still have symptoms of deficiency until you get your vitamins repleted to normal.  Try to reduce your omega 6:3 ratio.  The Standard American Diet is 14:1 or greater.  Healthy is 3:1.  Wheat flour is 22:1.  Potatoes are 3:1 while sweet potatoes are 14:1.  So those sweet potatos that everyone says is better than Russet: they are increasing your inflammation levels.

Hello, Target recently changed their branding on the Up & Up Loratadine and no long have it labeled gluten free. I've not been able to find any meds labeled gluten free for allergies. Some lists showed them but the the packaging isn't labeled.  Wondering if anyone knows of or has a list that would be safe for Celiac kiddos.
    • Scott Adams
My mother also has celiac disease, and one of her symptoms for many years before her diagnosis was TMJ. I believe it took her many years on a gluten-free diet before this issue went away.
    • Jeff Platt
Ear pain and ringing your entire life may or may not be TMJ related but could be something else. A good TMJ exam would be helpful to rule that out as a potential cause from a dentist who treats that. I have teens as well as adults of all ages who suffer from TMJ issues so it’s not a certain age when it shows up.
