Some Doctors Are Frusterating

I was never formally diagnosed with Celiac but my mom was so when I was 8 years old, I went gluten-free anyways. My pediatrician doesn't believe I have it and won't even believe that I'm gluten intolerant. I went to go see him yesterday and told him that I havent been feeling good lately and I'm having all these problems, on and on. He doesn't believe that I could be affected at all by gluten so he is running blood tests for anemia and hyper thyriod. So Frusterating! Those are two of the common most misdiagnoses for Celiac. Luckily I got a referral to a gastro which is what I was looking for.

Anyone else have similar problems?

Yes i did, i had the same problem not only with my doctor but with my parents. I started getting sick after i recovered from a knee dislocation and surgery. I was sick every day and had to spend most of my time after i ate lying down to keep from puking. I told my mom i wasnt feeling well and she did the "give it time" lesson. When i went for my school physical i told the doctor about my stomach problems and she had me checked for all the things that you were tested for as well as many other random blood work tests. Finally she refered me to a gastro doctor and within twenty minutes she had me going to the lab to test for Celiac. My blood test came up positive and a month later i had a biopsy to confirm. My mom now feels a little guilty for waiting and never realizing this was a real problem, but she has been a big help in the food department so i forgive her. I have been gluten free since and have never felt better! I hope you find a doctor that wises up and gives you the blood test for celiac so you can start to feel better too.

That just blows my mind.

What is it with doctors...why dont they ever want to run the tests? Whats it to them? If you did have anemia wouldnt celiac be a good reason for that. HELLO!

Also since your Mom has it you would think that they would check for celiac first and foremost. <_<

So the doctor just looked at you and decided that you couldn't possibly have it BUT you could have the problems that are associated with it?? Unbelieveable.

Thanks a lot! I will search that too. I also talked to another doctor and she assured me there is no gluten in this type of antibiotics. Anyway i started the administration of Augmentin on my girl this evening. I hope there will be no problems.

Good afternoon, I don’t know if anyone here has ever tried Braswell’s products like their marmalades or jellies? Are they gluten-free? On the ingredients says “cane sugar, cherries (cherries, cane sugar), strawberries, corn syrup, pectin and citric acid. That ingredient list is from their berry preserve bottle. Most of them say the same for ingredients, but I’m not sure if it is okay to consume.

I have seen this problem many times. I always get in touch with the company. Most times they tell me if I'm just gluten free it is ok, but do not eat it if you are celiac. Calling the company is the best way when you are not sure. Yesterday I had a different example of products being marked gluten-free.  I love chocolate and have a piece each day. The chocolate bar I like is Chocolove. When I bought one this week it was not marked gluten-free. I called the company to find out why and if it was still gluten-free.  Turns out the manufacturer decided there was too much on the wrapper and took off the gluten-free label. It is made in a dedicated gluten-free facility.
