I had my blood test come back positive for celiac disease, so what would be the next step to be positive. My dr said that I would need a biopsy. Why do they do a biopsy?

since your blood test was positive, and false positives are not common, welcome to the best club you never wanted to join.  you should continue to eat gluten until all your testing/scope is complete.  your doctor probably wants to confirm your diagnosis with an endoscopy (they will take biopsies and send to be tested) and also to see how damaged your gut is.  also, to rule out anything else that could be causing you problems in addition to celiac and probably to have a baseline to guage your healing once you start to eat gluten free to heal your intestines if you have damage.  good luck and welcome to the forum :)

While you wait for your testing (and continue your current gluten diet) you could study up on changes to make as you go gluten free.  Find a gluten free multi vitamin, take probiotics, and possibly begin some digestive enzymes.  Don't change your diet, but taking note now of what will need to change will help the transition to go more smoothly.  The biopsy should give you a definitive diagnosis that nobody can argue with.  You could be starting to change toiletries, pet food, if they contain gluten as you must buy new.

Best wishes for healing as you begin your journey!

So should I start to change my diet to a gluten free now or wait for confirmation.

Wait for confirmation to insure a correct diagnosis.

Welcome Connie Smitj,  Did you have a follow up test to see if the treatment for H Pylori was successful?  It's possible to catch it again, especially from a partner.  When I contracted it a second time my wife was tested and was positive for two of the bacteria in H Pylori.

Welcome to the forum, @Connie Smitj! Can you give us a little more history about your celiac journey? How long ago were you diagnosed and how long have your been gluten free? Do you have other symptoms besides quick onset of hunger after eating and gut pain? How long have these symptoms being happening?

I eat a gluten-free diet but hunger pains start within an hour of eating dinner. I  had h pylori infection before I was diagnosed. Occasionally I’ll have bouts of pain. Could it come back or is it just celiac disease?

Scott, am I missing something? For the TTG-IGA normal is anything 3 or less and his score less than 2. I think that one is in normal range. @Brown42186, if the GI doc is not interested in doing an endoscopy with biopsy of the small bowel lining based on the elevated TTG-IGG I would request a repeat on the bloodwork now that you have resumed gluten consumption again.

Interesting for sure. Have you heard of potential cross reactivity to casein (dairy), corn, milket, iats, rice, and yeast?
