Wow! Great job! You're probably just experiencing "keto flu" is kind of like a detox. It shouldn't last too much longer. I would say, if you want to reap all the benefits is ketosis, you should aim for 20 net carbs per day. That will help get you deeper into ketosis and your appetite will really start to disappear. You can expect a pretty consistent 1-2 lb loss per week that way. Keep me posted! I've lost 37lbs but I'm trying to start losing again. Adding gluten back in for my celiac testing really stalled my weight loss.

Thanks.  :)  Yeah, I've been slowly leaving the keto flu behind.  My total carbs is usually between 20 and 30 except for a couple of blips.  I bought those keto stix and they say I'm usually in small to moderate ketosis.  Looks good so far.

This morning my fasting BG was 3.8!  I've NEVER been that low.  Ever! And I felt perfectly fine too.  :D

I bet adding gluten in stalled things for you!  37lbs is great!  I'll be happy with 1-2 lbs per week.  By winter maybe I'll get to what you've accomplished.

Have a good weekend.

Congrats! My fasting has not been that low since my diagnosis and I began tracking. I have been happy with a 5! I confess that my carbs are still probably too high. I eat too many veggies! Oh, well!

That 5 is really good!  :)  I can't get there with lots of veggies - yet.

That 3.8 of mine was the lowest ever.  Plus I had been for a walk the night before so that probably helped.  Usually I am a 4.4 to a 4.8.  I get 5's once week.

About a week ago I had "higher carb" day at about 60 g (onions and green beans at dinner) and my fasting BG was back to a 5.6.  I'll probably add more veggies back in after a few months to see if I can keep my BG at 5 or lower.

Update on me... It's all about me, ya know.  ;)

I'm still doing a ketogenic diet and loving it.  My hair and skin are better.  My knee OA is way better and my hip OA is somewhat better. My blood glucose levels are generally down, although my FBG has been bouncing into the prediabetic range over the last week, but I think that might partially be caused by my being sick (shingles and I think I'm getting my kids' cold). No more AI issues.  I've also lost 25 lbs in about 10 weeks, which is good for me as I was only 20lbs above my normal BMI.

I haven't had any blood tests done, but I'm curious to see what this has done for my triglycerides, HDL, LDL, Lipoprotein a, blood pressure, IGF-1 (was a bit high) and vitamin A (I was low in this).

Anyways, very low carb high fat (vLCHF) diets work well for this celiac.  :D

Hey thats great you kept it up. Ive had one break because I got very acid and some muscle wastage but now im doing better, i take whey powder for extra protien now. My kidney function more than doubled and my inflamation got less after 3 weeks in ketosis and held there since. The strange thing is  I can now tell when im going into ketosis with 100% accuracy. I can have a negative pee strip then an hour later my heart rate will increase and ill know the next strip will be maximum ketones. Im eating less meat this time. More green juice and more total protien. Mostly i notice my skin better. It seems a fail proof cure for acne.

I've added protein powder too. It does help.  :)

Yeah, thanks for the nudge towards the diet.  I've been really happy with it and can foresee doing it for a long while.  Thanks.  :)

I'm glad you are still doing well and finding what works for you too!  Neat how you are so in tine with your body now.

This is such an important discussion! While corn gluten (zein) is structurally different from wheat gluten, emerging research suggests some celiac and gluten-sensitive individuals may still react to it, whether due to cross-reactivity, inflammation, or other factors. For those with non-responsive celiac disease or ongoing symptoms, eliminating corn—especially processed derivatives like corn syrup—might be worth exploring under medical guidance. That said, corn’s broader health impact (GMOs, digestibility, nutritional profile) is a separate but valid concern. Like you mentioned, ‘gluten-free’ doesn’t automatically mean ‘healthy,’ and whole, unprocessed foods are often the safest bet. For those sensitive to corn, alternatives like quinoa, rice, or nutrient-dense starches (e.g., sweet potatoes) can help fill the gap. Always fascinating (and frustrating) how individualized this journey is—thanks for highlighting these nuances! Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. I’m so sorry your little one is going through this. Celiac recovery can take time (sometimes months for gut healing), but the ongoing leg pain is concerning. Since his anemia was severe, have his doctors checked his other nutrient levels? Deficiencies in magnesium, vitamin D, or B12 could contribute to muscle/joint pain. A pediatric GI or rheumatologist might also explore if there’s concurrent inflammation or autoimmune involvement (like juvenile arthritis, which sometimes overlaps with celiac). Gentle massage, Epsom salt baths (for magnesium absorption), or low-impact activities like swimming could help ease discomfort while he heals. Keep advocating for him—you’re doing an amazing job!

Thank you for the input. We go back to the GI doctor in June- she wants to do more labs to check vitamin levels( not sure why the didn't check all at once with the iron being so low) and recheck inflammatory levels. Just trying to find him some relief in the meantime.

Welcome to the forum, @Stuartpope! With Marsh 3b damage to the villous lining of the small bowel, your son is likely deficient in a number of vitamin and minerals due to poor absorption, not just iron. B12 and all the other B vitamins are likely low. I would suggest looking into a high quality gluten-free B complex, D3, magnesium glycinate (the form of magnesium is important) and zinc. A children's multivitamin likely will not be potent enough. We commonly recommend this combo of vitamins and minerals to new celiacs as adults. Thing is, you would want to consult with a pediatrician about dosage because of his young age. In time, with the gluten-free diet his villi will rebound but he may need a kick start right now with some high potency supplements.

Hey yall!  New Celiac mama trying to help my son! My 3 year old was just diagnosed with Marsh 3b by a biopsy. We started this journey due to him being severely anemic (ferritin levels 1.2) He has had  3 iron infusions to help with the anemia. He has also been gluten free for a month. He is still having leg/ joint pain( he described a burning/ hurting) Im trying to help with his leg pain. He has trouble playing ( spending most days on the couch) He tells me 5/6X a day that his legs are hurting. Gets worse when walking or  playing. We have done OTC pain meds/ heating pad/ warm baths. What else can I do to help him be a kid.     Thanks for the help
