I went to my doctor today.  It was a follow up to recheck a CBC, I was diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia last summer (hemoglobin 10.4 and ferritin 4).  When I made the appointment I said that I'd like to talk about some GI symptoms I've had.  We talked about my symptoms, my autoimmune hepatitis and my iron deficiency anemia and she said she would run the entire celiac panel today and refer me to a GI doc for an EGD with biopsies no matter what the results of the panel.  My last EGD was 13 years ago, I have a hiatal hernia with reflux, she thinks my GI tract needs to be looked at because if it isn't celiac something funky is still going on.

It's crazy to feel lucky because I have a good doctor, but I do.  She said the celiac results may take longer than the CBC so if I haven't heard back by Monday to give her a call.  We'll see what happens, I try not to think about things, but I can't help it.

She does sound like a good doctor.  :)

You are super lucky to have a good doctor  who's on top of things!  Please do let us know when you get results!

Very, very lucky!

How about posting that doctor's name, address & telephone # in the Doctors section of our forum? Here's a link:

Thank you for your input!  I would really like to know if I have celiac disease because you need make sure you are not getting any cross contamination due to cancer concerns.  I guess I need to start with a knowledgeable Gastroenterologist. Thank you again!

Correct. I’m doing both in the same go though. Thanks for clarifying before I confused someone. I’m doing a colonoscopy for something else and then they added the endoscopy after the test.

It is a biopsy but it's not a colonoscopy, it's an endoscopy.

Well I’m going on the gluten farewell tour so they are about to find out lol. I keep saying biopsy but yeah it’s a scope and stuff. I’m a dummy but luckily my doctor is not.
