Is Cerave safe to use for Celiacs? 

 

I got this response from the company:

"Thank you for contacting Valeant Customer Service.
 
Valeant Pharmaceuticals International does not add gluten to CeraVe products.  However, this cannot guarantee that it is gluten free because of the possibility that trace amounts of gluten may exist in the raw materials.  In addition, the suppliers of the ingredients may change from time to time.  Please consult with your healthcare provider."

I use it all the time - every day!  I don't eat it, so I guess, if someone was going to eat it, that might be an issue.

I use the lotion, but the facial sunscreen contains gluten now or at least they did at the beginning of the summer.   Why they added it (probably sourced it out), I do not know.  Check the labels as they can change ingrediants.  The company statement is their way of protecting themselves.  I try to not eat lotion, like Karen said, but I am careful about sunscreen.  Riding my bike causes me to sweat a lot.  Yep, it goes in my eyes sometimes and in my mouth.  Gross!

      Correct. I’m doing both in the same go though. Thanks for clarifying before I confused someone. I’m doing a colonoscopy for something else and then they added the endoscopy after the test.

      It is a biopsy but it's not a colonoscopy, it's an endoscopy.

      Well I’m going on the gluten farewell tour so they are about to find out lol. I keep saying biopsy but yeah it’s a scope and stuff. I’m a dummy but luckily my doctor is not.

      The biopsy for celiac disease is done of the small bowel lining and in conjunction with an "upper GI" scoping called an endoscopy. A colonoscopy scopes the lower end of the intestines and can't reach up high enough to get to the small bowel. The endoscopy goes through the mouth, through the stomach and into the duodenum, which is at the upper end of the intestinal track. So, while they are scoping the duodenum, they take biopsies of the mucosal lining of that area to send off for microscopic analysis by a lab. If the damage to the mucosa is substantial, the doc doing the scoping can often see it during the scoping.
