Boat Life Newbie

Hello All,

I am new to this site but have been doing research on my own.  I have recently been tested for Celiac Disease.  My test results were: Gliadin (Deamidated) Antibodies Evaluation, IGG, Serum >150, Tissue Transglutaminase (TTG) Antibodies, IGG Serum, >100, and Immunoglobulin A (IGA) <1.  My doctor is sending me for biopsies in a week.  Many people keep saying "oh maybe it's not Celiac."  While I appreciate their positivity, and at the risk of sounding like a Debbie Downer, I don't see how I could not have Celiac.  Am I miss reading the test results?  The doctor wants to wait to have a conversation until after the biopsies but I am the type of person that needs to wrap my head around things and research my action plan before I jump.  I am still eating gluten for the biopsies.  Any clarification or advice would be great! Thanks!

Its a little confusing how you have them written.  It looks like the TTG IGG is greater than 100?  that is very indicative of Celiac.

Thanks! I am totally confused. I just copy and pasted off of my blood work results.

Hi Boat Life-

2 things: You don't mention why you had the blood work done in the first place.  Are you having symptoms? Do you have a family history of celiac?  Certainly, the lab work is very suspicious for celiac but it's possible to have false positives. So get the biopsy to confirm, esp if you don't have many symptoms.

Also, it looks like you have IgA deficiency.  Not all people have symptoms but it can be serious. If I am reading this correctly, you should also be referred to an immunologist.

Good luck!

Thanks! Yes I do have many symptoms as well.  I am going for the biopsies next Friday so hopefully I will have definite answers.  Do you know what other possibilities could leave me with a false positive?

With panel results that high you do have celiac. It is good that you are having the biopsy done though so the doctor can monitor the amount of healing if you choose torescope in 6 months to a year.  There is a chance that damage is patchy and may be missed on the biopsies. If that is the case don't think you are not celiac. You can start the diet strictly on the day they do the endo you don't need to wait on the results. Some folks can have more than one thing going on and being gluten free isn't going to effect testing for other issues.  Do be sure to read the Newbie 101 thread at the top of the coping section. It has a lot of good info and will help you prepare for the change next week.

Thanks so much!

Had my biopsy yesterday. No formal results yet but dr said there was a lot of inflammation and thickening of the wall. So he is sending me for a CT scan with IV contrast. He said he wanted to make sure there wasn’t anything “pushing” on the intestines. This has panicked me. Anyone have similar issues? He also said I had Duodenitis which I have read can be caused from Celiac. Thoughts?

Thanks a lot! I will search that too. I also talked to another doctor and she assured me there is no gluten in this type of antibiotics. Anyway i started the administration of Augmentin on my girl this evening. I hope there will be no problems.

Good afternoon, I don’t know if anyone here has ever tried Braswell’s products like their marmalades or jellies? Are they gluten-free? On the ingredients says “cane sugar, cherries (cherries, cane sugar), strawberries, corn syrup, pectin and citric acid. That ingredient list is from their berry preserve bottle. Most of them say the same for ingredients, but I’m not sure if it is okay to consume.

I have seen this problem many times. I always get in touch with the company. Most times they tell me if I'm just gluten free it is ok, but do not eat it if you are celiac. Calling the company is the best way when you are not sure. Yesterday I had a different example of products being marked gluten-free.  I love chocolate and have a piece each day. The chocolate bar I like is Chocolove. When I bought one this week it was not marked gluten-free. I called the company to find out why and if it was still gluten-free.  Turns out the manufacturer decided there was too much on the wrapper and took off the gluten-free label. It is made in a dedicated gluten-free facility.
