Eden Tamari Contaminated?

Hi.

I was getting my usual gluten rash and couldn't figure out the culprit. I had limited my diet to rice/tamari/sesame oil/salt for three days and still was getting the rash. I have both igA and igE antibodies to gluten, so I did the following test:

I did a scratch test with soy known to contain wheat, with Eden wheat-free tamari (the suspect) and SanJ gluten-free tamari as well as with the sesame oil. I got a hive from the wheat-soy prick and from the Eden tamari prick, but no hive from the SanJ tamari or the sesame oil. I repeated the test, to make sure that I hadn't confused my spots.

My conclusion? The Eden tamari seems to contain gluten. I've written the company to ask them to check their supplier of koji for wheat/barley contamination.

Does anyone else do their own scratch tests?

      Agreed. Dairy is just as bad as gluten for me.

      Many probiotics start with growing the bacteria on a dairy substrate leaving traces of dairy in the probiotics.   Many Celiacs react to dairy in the same way as they react to gluten because certain protein chains in dairy resemble gluten protein chains.   @Wheatwacked ferments his own pickles.  Perhaps he can chime in.
