Safe Gluten Free Restaurants - Kenai Peninsula, AK

AWC-California

Recommended Posts

AWC-California Rookie

Hello,

I am hoping to get some recommendations for safe gluten-free friendly restaurants on the Kenai peninsula (Alaska).

We'll be there for about 10 days and will travel to Whittier, Soldotna, Seward and Homer.

I have done some research online but I always like to ask this forum for advice when I travel.

Any suggestions are appreciated !

We stayed at a fantastic B&B called The Carriage House in Girdwood (a great place to base from) for 3 nights and she cooks a gourmet breakfast every morning. Many places make their own sausage! She made egg type dishes every day that I could eat and fruit and hash browns or whatnot. Across the street was the Double Musky restaurant where I had a shrimp and grits dish.

In Homer there was an amazing gluten free crepe place (check the hours) called Wild Honey Bistro and they will do a clean preparation if you tell them you have an allergy. Fantastic! We ate there 3 days.

There are lots of places on the gluten-free restaurant app. and we ate oysters.

Oh- the Snow City Cafe in Anchorage was AMAZING! Went there a few times. I are some Mexican egg dish that was amazing- they have a gluten-free menu.

I am asking for my six year old. It took us four months to figure out what was going on- a brand of extra virgin olive oil we were using for every meal. We changed the brand she instantly got better- from Gi to nephropathy to joint pain, to tinnitus to dry eyes. You name a symptom and she has it when glutened, so it's difficult to second guess when it's all so obvious. Anyway, two months later, i bought another bottle of the same brand, and the olive oil was sourced form 5 different countries, as opposed to one. It took exactly a month for her symptom to start all over again. And sure enough it was the oil! I am sorta getting tired of trying to get these "healthy" oils glutening her. Does anyone have any thought on cooking oils that they think for sure are not contaminated, or any certified glutenfee brands they suggest? I'd appreciate. At this point, I just need any oil that's free of contamination- healthy or otherwise. Healthier is better. But i'll tkae anything. Thanks

@CeliacPsycho246, You might try cutting out dairy.  Some of us react to Casein, the protein in dairy, the same as to gluten.
