Frequent bowel movements at the start of gluten free diet

Hello, one of my celiacs blood tests came back slightly out of range.  The doc thinks I’m probably just sensitive or intolerant and that it’s up to me if I want to go for the biopsy to confirm.  I’ve decided to skip the biopsy and go gluten free.  It’s only been a few days to a week but geez I’m having frequent bowel movements.  Prior to going gluten free it was 1 occasionally  2 normal bowel movements in a day.  I’m about a week in and geez I’m having 5-6 normal like bowel movements and maybe one loose stool a day.  I feel super spaced out too.  Is this normal?  What in the world is happening here. Super weird.  Thanks.

You may have increased or decreased things like fat or fiber.  I think this is usually a lot about what you have added or subtracted from your diet.

Also, if you have Celiac, it will take months to years to fully heal.  this could just be healing going on.

Thank you.  I have increased healthy fats.  Maybe it’s a combo.  Thanks so much for your insight.  I hope going gluten free does the trick.  I’ve been feeling off for a long time.  Thanks again.

Why skip biopsy?  Just having one positive (and not a strong positive) on the celiac panel does not rule out celiac disease.  A endoscopy can also identify concurrent issues, set a benchmark for future testing and make dietary compliance a bit easier (no doubt).  But I understand  if there are financial constraints or delays getting to a GI.

I wish you well.

I have no specific recommendations but I would suggest looking for products that are advertised as produced in a dedicated gluten-free facility. That should eliminate one possible route of cross contamination. It doesn't guarantee that none of the ingredients going into the product are totally gluten free but is should eliminate adding more CC to the mix via processing machinery.  One of the issues you may be experiencing is that testing has shown that a significant percentage of "Certified Gluten Free" products can test far in excess of 10ppm. There was an article appearing in this forum back last summer outlining the results of testing that showed this to be true. So, it may be somewhat of a pig in a poke when you buy this stuff, regardless of how it is billed. It may be safe for you if it actually fits within the stated requirements of it's billing.

I can still have a reaction from “certified gluten free” products I don’t like having to use the eat and see what my body does approach are there really any purely gluten free products or do I just have to make all of my own food?

Hi I just wanted to update you all and let you know that I finally have my diagnosis. 2 weeks ago I had my third gastroscopy and the biopsy confirmed the damage. Thank you for giving me the information I needed to advocate for myself when I a was a feeling so lost!
