Is "no tearing" a symptom/aspect of celiac?

I have had celiac for several years with a lot of the well-known symptoms -- pain, rash, etc.  But, only last night, on a medical TV drama, did I hear that "no tearing" (the inability to create tears when crying) is a symptom of celiac.   In a search, this morning, I was unable to find the symptom mentioned relating to celiac.  About the same type I started developing rashes and severe stomach pain, etc., I also lost the ability to form tears.  I thought it was because my life sucked so severely that I just couldn't cry anymore.  (Sad, but true.)  So, I was curious (and very surprised) when I heard the "no tearing" statement made on TV, last night.  Does anyone know if this is true?  Thanks, in advance.

Hi,

I don't know if it is or not.  I do know I have had problems with dry eyes at times.

Because celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder, patients can go on to develop other autoimmune disorders.  Have you looked into Sjogren’s Syndrome?

Thank you, both, for replying and thank you, cyclinglady, for the link.

I read the article -- it doesn't mention celiac, but it does mention lupus, which I (also) have.   It was enlightening.  Thank you (again).

Just after I posted my question, above, a friend sent a link to another article.  It mentions the connection between celiac and Sjogrens.  That was the first I was able to put a name to the "no tears" disease.  The bottom line, however, is that since they are auto-immune illnesses, they are related.

Wishing you both good health.  :)

I have been unable to "cry" for years...it really worried me because I had been through a major life changing event which caused severe stress for years.  I went off an antidepressant, and recently felt an urge to cry on several occasions, but it didn't actually happen.  I came off the antidepressant by accident, and then decided to stop it on my own.  I am thinking that the stress may have brought on the gluten issues, as I already had thyroid and RA.  A partial thyroidectomy indicated hashimoto's...so we are looking at several autoimmune problems.  I want to cry...I think we should all be able to as a release...but, hopefully I can at some point.  I will be seeing my eye MD soon and have her check it...Anyone else with this problem?  I don't believe I have Sjorgens.

I am asking for my six year old. It took us four months to figure out what was going on- a brand of extra virgin olive oil we were using for every meal. We changed the brand she instantly got better- from Gi to nephropathy to joint pain, to tinnitus to dry eyes. You name a symptom and she has it when glutened, so it's difficult to second guess when it's all so obvious. Anyway, two months later, i bought another bottle of the same brand, and the olive oil was sourced form 5 different countries, as opposed to one. It took exactly a month for her symptom to start all over again. And sure enough it was the oil! I am sorta getting tired of trying to get these "healthy" oils glutening her. Does anyone have any thought on cooking oils that they think for sure are not contaminated, or any certified glutenfee brands they suggest? I'd appreciate. At this point, I just need any oil that's free of contamination- healthy or otherwise. Healthier is better. But i'll tkae anything. Thanks

@CeliacPsycho246, You might try cutting out dairy.  Some of us react to Casein, the protein in dairy, the same as to gluten.

Yep, the edit window times out very quickly. It's okay. I got a good laugh out of it.
