Symptoms

I was diagnosed with celiac a month ago and have been gluten free from the day I got told. My symptoms before I got diagnosed were severe bloatingness and feeling very fatigued. Since cutting out the gluten I still have those symptoms and if anything feel slightly worse. Is this normal to still be massively bloated and feeling exhausted and fatigued? I’m not expecting to feel completely better but I would have thought a month with no gluten I would start to feel slightly better.

Need some baseline info and you are probably overlooking some things that are common. IE eating out side at non dedicated places, using the same contaminated cutting board, or scratched pots and pans that retain gluten in the scratches, condiment jars that have crumbs etc. Do read the newbie 101 section, do not worry we all make this mistakes at first.

Second what is your diet? We suggest a whole foods only diet at first, removing dairy and oats. Dairy is a issue for many at first til you heal, the damaged villi in your intestines will preventing proper break down of dairy with enzymes causing bloat and intolerance issues. Oats are commonly contaminated and 10% of celiacs also react to them. Basic foods and meals would be soft and easy on the gut at first like stews, soups, nut meal porridge, omelettes cooked soft. crockpot meals, even going into easy sheet pan meals, stir fry, or steamed meals

Processed gluten free food like breads, cookies, etc, have tons more sugar, starches, carbs then the gluten counter parts, top this with a damaged gut, and this leaves you open to SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth) and Candida which both cause bloat. If you have either of these you will have to take a extreme diet change and even supplement with treatment to get them back in order (No carb diets to starve them off and stuff to regulate the gut biome)

I have no specific recommendations but I would suggest looking for products that are advertised as produced in a dedicated gluten-free facility. That should eliminate one possible route of cross contamination. It doesn't guarantee that none of the ingredients going into the product are totally gluten free but is should eliminate adding more CC to the mix via processing machinery.  One of the issues you may be experiencing is that testing has shown that a significant percentage of "Certified Gluten Free" products can test far in excess of 10ppm. There was an article appearing in this forum back last summer outlining the results of testing that showed this to be true. So, it may be somewhat of a pig in a poke when you buy this stuff, regardless of how it is billed. It may be safe for you if it actually fits within the stated requirements of it's billing.

I can still have a reaction from “certified gluten free” products I don’t like having to use the eat and see what my body does approach are there really any purely gluten free products or do I just have to make all of my own food?
