I have gotten canker sores my entire life. I think that they can be hereditary because my paternal grandma gets them too. I seem to have a lot of traits that she has. Interesting how genetics work. Anyway, after I was diagnosed I thought maybe my Celiac was the reason. And here I am, over a year later, and I still get them. I’m so vigilant and I know it’s not my Celiac. I’m bummed that being gluten-free hasn’t stopped them.

Im the executive director of a nonprofit and I have two kids (ages 2 and 4), so my life is rather chaotic. I notice these damn things when I’m stressed COMBINED with a run down immune system. My kids each battled 103 fevers for almost a week this month and right after that BAM. I have had a couple. I have a plastic retainer and I think that it has a tendency to rub the inside of my lip. I don’t seem to notice them randomly. I seem to get them from trauma, like biting.

Anyone else who deals with these? Like I said, I  think they’re hereditary in my case. What a pain.

Hello!

I have no idea if canker sores are something that can be hereditary...but at this point anything is possible ?. I too have gotten them all my life but I mostly attributed that to what I was eating. When I started getting them it was years before I ever knew what celiac was or that I had it. I know that they can be caused by several factors including stress/vitamin deficiencies but when I was little...and even now, I ate a lot of high acidic fruits and veggies as well as a lot spicy foods which are both known to also be a contributing factor. I've only had my celiac diagnosis for a few days and haven't been gluten free long enough to know if celiac was the only cause of my canker sores or it was a combination of the high acidic foods, my vitamin deficiencies and the celiac. I do know that I when I slow down on the high acidic and spicy foods for a while, the sores tend to heal up quickly.

There are some helpful tips in this article.

Under stress, your body requires extra B vitamins.  Taking extra B complex when stressed helps me keep cold sores at bay.

Hope they heal soon.

Fmbm,

I used to have to deal with them.

Lysine will help with them and swilling with salt water will help them go away quicker.

Here is an exhaustive thread about this topic.

I hope this is helpful. But it is not medical advice.

Thanks a lot! I will search that too. I also talked to another doctor and she assured me there is no gluten in this type of antibiotics. Anyway i started the administration of Augmentin on my girl this evening. I hope there will be no problems.

Good afternoon, I don’t know if anyone here has ever tried Braswell’s products like their marmalades or jellies? Are they gluten-free? On the ingredients says “cane sugar, cherries (cherries, cane sugar), strawberries, corn syrup, pectin and citric acid. That ingredient list is from their berry preserve bottle. Most of them say the same for ingredients, but I’m not sure if it is okay to consume.

I have seen this problem many times. I always get in touch with the company. Most times they tell me if I'm just gluten free it is ok, but do not eat it if you are celiac. Calling the company is the best way when you are not sure. Yesterday I had a different example of products being marked gluten-free.  I love chocolate and have a piece each day. The chocolate bar I like is Chocolove. When I bought one this week it was not marked gluten-free. I called the company to find out why and if it was still gluten-free.  Turns out the manufacturer decided there was too much on the wrapper and took off the gluten-free label. It is made in a dedicated gluten-free facility.
