Test results, family history..questions

First. There are 4 people in my family diagnosed via upper endoscopy.(including myself). My 20 year old has had symptoms for over a year. The last blood test is attached. At the appt, I told him I had a negative upper endoscopy at similar levels to her results and wanted to see an increase in her levels before I would pay for that test $1000 deductible. He agreed but now 10 months later is refusing to put in for the blood test and want to schedule the upper endoscopy. I'm tempted to just be done with it and tell her to assume she has celiac. Opinions?

Because she has a high result she should get the endoscopy to verify celiac. You and your daughter are different people and your numbers don't relate to each other.

I agree with Tessa in every respect. Make sure he takes 6 biopsies.

Purpose of spending $1000 for them to say, why, yes, you have the same autoimmune diseas your other 4 close relatives that had the same symptoms.

Harm in redoing a blood test that costs me $50 vs getting an endoscopy too early...like I did.

Some doctors will give a diagnosis based on the resolution of symptoms and decrease in antibodies after a time on a strict diet. While it is ideal to have a scope done there are some reasons that some refuse to have one done. For some it is the cost, for others concerns about having a pre-existing condition in their medical record and some just don't want to have an invasive procedure done that still has a chance of a false negative.  With your family history if the diet can be strictly adhered to without having the scope I would also opt for repeat blood work in 6 to 9 months instead.

@CeliacPsycho246, You might try cutting out dairy.  Some of us react to Casein, the protein in dairy, the same as to gluten.

Yep, the edit window times out very quickly. It's okay. I got a good laugh out of it.

I hope you meant "pen pal" instead of "paypal".
