Has anyone tried Hudsonville Mackinac Island Fudge Ice Cream?

Has anyone had any issues with gluten-free Hudsonville ice cream? I bought some this weekend and it was great. However, I experienced bloating, cramping and belching. I do not know if it was the white rice I ate earlier or the ice cream. Just wondering if anyone else had issues with the ice cream. It has a lot of ingredients which makes me a little nervous (not crazy about xanthan gum which included. I hope it was not the ice cream - it was awesome!

I was wondering the same thing because I wanted the blue moon ice cream and this is what they sent me......

We have many gluten free flavors!  There is a gluten-free icon on the sides of our containers for all gluten free flavors. You can also visit our website to find out which flavors are gluten free.  Open Original Shared Link

We do process gluten on the same equipment as our gluten free flavors but the lines are thoroughly cleaned afterwards and we test the equipment to verify all the gluten has been removed.

looks like they process gluten in the same equipment I don’t think I’ll be purchasing this ice cream. Wish I knew of an ice cream that was good and didn’t do this.

@Jherm21— I would trust this company.  They at least are taking precautions.  Try sticking with vanilla which is the #1 flavor in the US and they probably make huge batches of it.  The OP might have temporary lactose intolerance or celiac-related GI issues since he recently stated that he still has some villi damage on his last endoscopy.

Thanks cyclinglady! I feel better now I know you know your stuff :)  I just really want to try the blue moon one.  I love vanilla but the blue kind reminds me of when I was a kid. It does have a gluten-free symbol on it. I have yet to try the breyers gluten free vanilla one. Is there a breyers lactose free version that’s celiac safe? Maybe for OP and myself.  Sometimes I get constipated if I have too many milk products days at a time.

I am taking my celiac a lot more seriously now and want to avoid chances of cross contact, does anyone have any good ground turkey brands or chicken brands they can recommend ?

Moms Across America for one. Here's the article that kicked off long thread and more than one thread on Celiac.com this past summer:  Our community feels the testing needs to be tightened up. As of now, GFCO allows food companies to do self-testing and self-reporting. Testing is also done We strongly believe testing needs to be done more frequently and there needs to be drop in, unannounced testing by the FDA and certification groups.

What celiac watchdog groups have looked into what you mentioned? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, @CiCi1021! Well, to begin with, most of us have found it isn't necessary to buy a lot of specifically labeled "gluten free" or "Certified Gluten Free" prepackaged food items as long as you are willing and able to cook from scratch. This is especially true since testing by celiac watchdog groups has cast some serious doubt on how consistently food companies are actually meeting gluten free and certified gluten free standards. It's probably just as effective and certainly less expensive to buy naturally gluten free mainline food products such as fresh meat, vegetables and fruit and prepare your own meals. The only major exception to that in my experience is loaf bread. It's very difficult to make your own gluten free bread products and have them come out decent with regard to texture. The major food companies have invested a lot into that component and have come up with some pretty good stuff that's hard to duplicate for yourself.

Struggling with costs of all the special food.  Are there any organizations out there that will assist with costs?
