Nausea linked to perimenopause

Have any of our lady members experienced this?  I'd like to know more.  A non-coeliac friend of mine has been experiencing this but I'm wondering how common it is.  For myself, I do feel nauseous from time to time and wonder if actually it's hormonal rather than cc.  It's too easy to blame everything on gluten!  (Note: It's not actually being sick, just feeling a bit off.)

Hi -

I'm in the middle of peri-menopause with hopes to be done with whole thing very soon (can't come soon enough if you ask me). I have been experiencing weird periodic nausea for the last couple of months and until I just read your post had not considered the two might be linked.  I've actually had a couple of episodes where it felt like I would feel better if I actually threw up, threw up, and did indeed feel instantly better.

I think it might be related more to gastric issues and not perimenopause unless it is migraine-related (perimenopause) and can cause nausea.

Hi Cristiana,

I do believe that a symptom of perimenopause is nausea.  It certainly is for me at times.  I don't actually get sick, but will feel like I'm going to.  I googled the two together and found a bunch of articles...this one is pretty easy reading and makes a lot of sense.

Hope that helps!

How funny!  I was just online and this notification came up!  I'd even forgotten I'd posted it!  It's taken over a year for someone to respond - but thank you!☺️

I don't think it can have lasted very long as I'd forgotten all about it.  However, my friend has had it for years and now says HRT has helped.

I do get sick headaches occasionally and I do think they are probably hormonal.

Oh, that's funny!  I didn't see the original date, just the recent reply.  I do still get a bit nauseous as I get close to my period.

I believe I've seen them at Costco still in the shells (in the frozen seafood area), which might be a safe way to go.

A dedicated rack is a great idea if everyone in the house understands and supports the idea, and just to clarify, I didn't recommend just wiping the rack down, but washing it well in soap and hot water.

Thanks, I appreciate you getting back to me.  Sometimes the retailers don't have content info on products they sell and they have rewrapped them with no ingredients list. Guess I'll stick to prepackaged medalions with all the info.

I find that I sometimes have symptoms due to cross-contact with foods that *might* be contaminated in the processing. 100% gluten-free certification is something I look for in every processed food I consume.

I would not be comfortable with just wiping down the rack after a gluten-containing food was cooked on it. When I cook pizza in the oven, my gluten-free pizza goes on the top rack - nothing else is ever placed directly on that top rack, gluten or not. Contact with minute traces of gluten cause me symptoms within a few hours. If I heat a gluten-free roll in my toaster oven, I place it on a small bit of foil so that it does not directly contact the rack that *might* have traces of gluten on it.
