Outback Restaurant

Recently we ordered grilled chicken and grilled shrimp for our entrees. Grilled veggies, seasoned rice, salad and grilled pineapple came with this meal. However the seasoned rice had gluten so we were able to substitute mashed potatoes. Our waitress was great and we made certain that we reminded her to not add croutons to our salads and to mix the salad in a new bowl.

I wouldn't recommend the grilled shrimp for people, especially men, who have large appetites. The portion was appropriate for me but not for my husband.

ENJOY EATING AT OUTBACK!

I used to work at an outback, but this was way before I was diagnosed.. Lots of people would come in asking for the gluten free menu. I understood that their were certain ingredients in some of the food that "these people" couldnt have. Until I myself was diagnosed I had no clue and I felt odd asking a customer to explain. So if you ever do go to a resturaunt I would like to urge people to maybe explain a little better to the waitress or waiter what evactly celiac and gluten free is. I have and you'd be surprised at the reaction you get and then they will know for the next person they wait on that needs the same specialties..

Lorraine, thanks so much for the advice! We live and breathe gluten free, and sometimes forget that not everyone know what it is.

Thanks Lorraine--that was good advice from the server's prospective. BTW, welcome :)

I would suggest you ask your doctor to order a "total IGA" test to check for IGA deficiency.

I did a gluten challenge. I ate bread yesterday. I immediately felt horrid. Depressed, fearful, angry.  I also had the weirdest night terrors and "day terrors" (delusions). They were do awful, that I am still terrified. How do gluten impact your dreams?

Thanks so much for replying!  No I haven't been limiting gluten prior to this test, I didn't know the Dr even tested for it until I got my results. These were the only celiac related pathology that was tested for. I am seeing my Dr on Monday so hopefully she can shed some more light!

New here as well lots of things learning I’ve discovered lots of foods have sneaky gluten so be mindful how is it going?? I have issues when I do cocktails 🍸 I don’t know if it is gluten free or not but get horrible side effects and so many others ooh well we are all learning how to cope with this….
