Lupus & Celiac - limited diet

Hello Everyone. Maybe someone can help me. I saw my rheumatologist and found out I have lupus and hyperurecemia which lead to chronic gout. My kidneys are in stage 3 damage and I have GERD and Celiac disease. I’m down to eating boiled eggs, boiled chicken, boiled potatoes, and green beans.

All of this stemmed from poisoning with a stomach medication.  I cannot take allopurinol to relieve the chronic gout so I’m stuck

Is there anyone else out there suffering from all of these or have any ideas about what I can do to feel better?

Thank you...

That’s tough.  I don’t know anything about the diet restrictions for gout.  Can you at least switch up what you can eat?  Like a baked potato instead of boiled?  Scrambled eggs ?  Baked chicken?  If you can eat chicken can you eat turkey?  Can you eat sweet potatoes?  Might make life a little more pleasant?

I am sorry that you are unwell.

There are recommendations for a gout diet, but they are not that restrictive.  Why are you so limited (even more restrictive than the Autoimmune Paleo diet)?  Is your celiac disease flaring too and these are your safe foods (easy to digest and make)?

I agree with adding sweet potatoes if possible.  Sweet potatoes are more nutritious than white potatoes.  Plus white potatoes are a bad choice because of the alkaloids in them that many people react to.  White potatoes are a nightshade vegetable and some people can't tolerate nightshades.  All people react to the alkaloids in white potatoes but they are usually not enough of a problem for most people to have symptoms.

Other roots vegetables you could try are turnips, radishes, carrots.  Those may or may not work for your diet though.

Lia Jay,

Eat you some Berries ....they can be good for Gout and take you some Magnesium Glycinate with or w/out food or Magnesium Citrate with meals.

Here is a couple links that will help you.

I hope this is helpful but it is not medical advise.

I deal with three different autoimmune disorders.  If my celiac disease is flaring, the other two tend to flare up too. Often lasting longer than my celiac disease symptoms.   I hope that by managing your  celiac disease will help you best deal with your lupus diagnosis.

Feel better fast!

Hi Matt, like you I lost almost 3stone over 2yrs, my symptoms were exactly as you describe .    I was eventually referred  to a consultant who has been treating me for reflective coeliac.  I’ve been taking(  Budenofalk 3mg )steroids for the past 9 mths  and the course is coming to an end shortly. I’ve gained 2 stone and feel so much better in myself. Im due an endoscopy at the end of the course of steroids so unable to say if my villi’s have returned or my digestive system has repaired. But like you I was besides myself with worry.  Apparently the condition is quite unknown and the consultant at the hospital I attend has been in contact  with  Sheffield hospital who specialises in this condition. I hope this helps,    Deanne

How are you doing, @sadiec123?  Did you get through the holidays alright?    Have you been checked for nutritional deficiencies?  Many newly diagnosed Celiacs  are low in Vitamin D and many of the B vitamins like thiamine.  Thiamin insufficiency can cause weight loss and loss of appetite (anorexia) as well as affect mood.   Benfotiamine has been shown to promote intestinal healing and improve mood.
