Hi all,

Does anyone know of or wish to start a support group in Bergen County, NJ?  Or are there any members in Bergen Co who would just like to get together now and then and support each other in person?

Unfortunately, support groups are dwindling.  I live in Southern California and you would think there would be a very active group.  I guess people like joking on-line groups better. More convenient.

I think you are right.  There was a group here but it faded out about three years ago.  I tried to start a new group 4 times but no one seems interested in face-to-face interactions anymore!  I guess I am dating myself when I say that I prefer that to online?

Ha!

I get it.  My local group has several very old members.  I attended a few meetings, but it was not very productive.  San Diego has a more active group.  They collaborated last year and brought in Dr. Shelia Crowe (Head of GI Association) for a lecture along with Melissa Dennis, MS, RD, LDN who is out of the Celiac Center at Beth Israel in Boston.  She also has celiac disease.  Other than that joint conference, my local group is dwindling...so sad.

If I could, I would love to go to celiac camp, but not the kid version.  One developed for adults.  Imagine not worrying about food preparation for a week while canoeing and hiking.

I am not taking anything except for the multivitamins that I purchased from the supermarket.

The critic acid and sodium citrate is corn unfortunately and they don’t have to label corn because it’s not part of the top 9 allergen and not mandatory 😭

Yaya, from the JAMA study you refer to: "Taking 60,000 international units (IU) a day of vitamin D for several months has been shown to cause toxicity." No one on this forum is recommending  taking anywhere near that amount. We're talking about 5-10,000IU daily.

"Doses higher than the RDA are sometimes used to treat medical problems such as vitamin D deficiency, but these are given only under the care of a doctor for a specified time frame. Blood levels should be monitored while someone is taking high doses of vitamin D." Quoted from the Healthline article @Yaya linked above...
