Suggestions to relieve ongoing bloating?

I was diagnosed celiac back in 2015 and have been on a gluten-free diet since. I never had major GI symptoms and I wouldn’t say I’m very in tune with my body so I wouldn’t notice if I felt worse after having a meal with gluten but overall I did feel better after going gluten-free.

Now a couple years on, I’m not feeling great. The biggest symptom for me with gluten was anxiety so I found that got worse again and with it comes loose stool but not quite diarrhea. From about August-December I would have this at least 3 times per week and relied heavily on Imodium. Now I find I have almost the opposite problem. I’m not quite constipated but I’m not as regular as I had been and I feel bloated and swollen all the time. I don’t have pain or gas or anything like that I just don’t like the way I look or feel. I’ve researched IBS but I’m not sure if that’s more extreme than what I have as I never have full blown diarrhea or constipation I just lean in different directions.

Did anyone here have a similar experience and find a digestive enzyme or probiotic or anything else that helped them?

Have you had follow-up celiac disease testing?  You might want to rule out active celiac disease.  Celiacs can develop other autoimmune disorders or illnesses.  If your celiac disease is active, you might want to find the gluten source.

Thank you for the warning. I get blood tests twice a year to check where I stand with the vitamins I regularly take, so I appreciate the extra reminder. I know some vitamins don’t build up but now I will watch the B6 for sure.

I think you would do well to take a high potency B-complex such that you get more balanced dosage across the spectrum of B vitamins. They work in concert.

Around 5 years ago I visited Tokyo, and luckily had my sister in law with me who is from there, otherwise it would have been more difficult. The bottom line is that there are tons of naturally gluten-free food options there, but you need to be able to communicate your needs to restaurant staff. Here is a gluten-free restaurant card for American visitors in Tokyo. It includes a request for a gluten-free meal and mentions common gluten-containing ingredients to avoid, like soy sauce and miso. English: Thank you. Japanese:   You can also download the Google Translate app, and besides being able to help you speak with people there about this, it has a camera app that translates Japanese text to English in your camera, so you can use it when shopping in a supermarket.

Be careful about how much B6 you take, as it can cause issues if you take too much of it over time.
