Libby’s canned corned beed

Does anyone knows if Libby’s bran corned beef is made in a gluten-fee facility? I’m asking as my 17 month old grandson was recently diagnosed with acute celiac disease and we must adhere to cross contamination or risk him getting sick.

It is gluten-free per the ingredients, but is not labelled "gluten-free," so it is unlikely it is made in a gluten-free facility, otherwise it would be labelled as "gluten-free."

I am sorry that your grandson is ill.

A newly diagnosed celiac has a damaged small intestine.  Digesting anything can hurt.  I would suggest a simple diet of plain foods like plain meats, fish, veggies, fruit, rice.  Avoid processed foods. If you do use them, look for those with only a few ingredients that you would have in your own pantry.   That corned beef contains a lot of food preservatives and spices that your grandson might not be able to digest without pain at this time.    If you need a canned meat, try a tuna or chicken packed in oil or water with salt.

Celiacs often have many other intolerances.  Keeping a food journal can help.  For example, often celiacs are lactose intolerant for a while.  I can not eat garlic or onions even after my small intestine has healed.

Research all that you can!  Look through this forum for tips and advice.  So glad you are looking out for your grandson.  ?

Hello, @jadeceoliacuk, Has your son been tested for nutritional deficiencies?  Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of essential nutrients which can result in nutritional deficiencies.  Supplementing with essential vitamins and minerals is beneficial.   I would find a nutritionist more knowledgeable about Celiac and ASD, before taking herbal supplements that don't contain essential vitamins. There doesn't seem to be much information about the effects of Gluten Ataxia in this forum.  I was diagnosed with Celiacs Disease but never had typical gluten symptoms.  My symptoms were all ataxic.
