In addition to both scopes for gluten issues. I was tested for IgE mediated food allergies, environmental allergeans, and asthma.  I also completed food dairy/logs under Dr care  for food intolerances including food ingredients/additives. Allergies/asthma run on my maternal side. Celiac/gluten intolerance on paternal side ( revealed through my cousin and myself.)

My Dr specifically checks my vitamin D level ( I was deficient 10 years ago and treated for it). Also runs cbc, metabolic, and A1C.

How old are you?  What kind of damage did your biopsies revealed?  The small intestine can literally heal in just a few weeks on a gluten free diet. But many people have systemic issues that take longer to resolve.  They can have vitamin deficiencies, but not all do.  If they do, they might be able to heal in a few weeks or months and then those deficiencies resolve naturally.  Some celiacs have refractory celiac disease or concurrent issues like ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s, SIBO, microscopic colitis, gastric ulcers, EOE, the list is long.  Those illnesses must also be addressed and can contribute to continued vitamin deficiencies.

Some patients have allergies and intolerances, but not all.  Most with allergies have spend years with an allergist prior to their diagnosis.  They have hives, asthma, runny nose, itching eyes, etc.  Not all celiacs have allergies, however, food intolerances are common (like lactose) and often they resolve with healing.  Best to keep a food journal.  Believe me, I know when I eat garlic it makes me sick.  Trial and error.

I get a CBC (bloodwork to check my hemoglobin and cell counts) and an A1c because I am old and have a history of low hemoglobin.  It sounds like you are healthy with the exception of celiac disease.  Your doctor might not need to run those tests.

I think your doctor, knowing your health history, thinks you can heal just fine on the diet.  At least try it.  If things do not improve, then you and your doctor can figure out what to do next.  Give it six months to a year.

Taking a multi -vitamin is like insurance.  It will not harm you.  It may help you.  What concerns me is your state of mind.  This seems to be very stressful for you.  Perhaps, it is time to back away from the internet, at least on health issues (watch baby, dog and kitty videos — happy things.) Focus on the good things in life.  Talk to your doctor about how you feel. Maybe you need some additional mental health assistance.  These are stressful times and I understand  your anxiety.  Get help for that.   I care.

42... Dr said normal looking GI tract after Endoscopy...  no sign of anything worrisome..      but biopsy was severe blunting of villi...

then he said " those suckers come back ".. they're just inflamed..    😑

then he said several weeks to start feeling better..   which i'm sure is BS.

Ok.  So old but not so old.  The small intestine can heal pretty fast.  And it depends on where your damage is located because things are absorbed and processed in different  areas.  Just think of the benefit you have with this forum.  You are getting great advice which is probably helping you to feel faster (you have seen some improvement, right?).    Think of the old days when you could not even get a book at the library on celiac disease.

It took me a year before I feel I was at 100%.  My anemia resolved within a few months (I could walk without being out of breath and lab tests showed my hemoglobin improved).  What took longer was healing my vertebrae fractures and figuring out what other foods my body did not like.

I suppose ya... I mean there have been much worse feeling days before....   The only thing that really bothers me now is my dizziness..  I have chronic dizziness every day for the last 4 months or so..i've read other people mentioning it here too...…  and some tension in front of my head.. kinda like a tension headache but without any pain..   I know tension headaches can be chronic and cause dizziness too but I doubt its as simple as that.

that's why im going for an eye exam on monday

Oh, I am sorry to hear about the chronic dizziness.  My husband has had bouts of vertigo.  It is not pleasant.  Please accept my apologies.  No wonder you sound anxious.  Dealing with dizziness!  Yuck!

Good thing you are seeing an optometrist.  It is a good place to start.

Use the forum search button.  I think plenty of people here have had dizziness.  You might find a solution.

Sorry you are feeling so bad.

I also have that dizziness (in my experience, it feels more like vague lightheadedness/sleepy/drunk feeling).  Also, really bad chronic fatigue/aches (my entire body always feels very heavy, weak).  I also have burning inner eyelids, sinusitis, tinnitus, pink scalp (atopic dermatitis).  I've been to various specialists, had a zillion tests (all "normal" of course).  I have also had depression/anxiety, and insomnia issues FOR YEARS, so it's hard to really tie symptoms to specific conditions, esp. as lack of sleep can screw up one's immune system.   I also have obvious food allergies to soy, dairy, some fruits, and I know food allergies can explain some of these symptoms.  My PCP declined to refer me to an allergist because she (and my medical insurance co.) doesn't recognize any allergies short of those that cause anaphylactic shock (peanuts, latex).  So I would welcome comments suggesting any reliable home food allergy tests.

I also get headaches (thankfully rare and only mild), but I think mine are primarily stress-related.  It's always a good idea to have your eyes checked once a year.  I would prefer an ophthalmologist because they--unlike optometrists--dilate your eyes and get a good, thorough look inside.

In the meantime, I am comforted by CL's comments on her intestinal healing.  It's important to be patient and give our bodies time to heal...at least a year...It probably takes most people at least that long to learn how to master the fine art of gluten-free eating...:).

Just got back from my eye exam...   yes they dilated the eyes...

All the scans looked normal...    He said the eyes looked dry though.. which can cause vision issues and my old prescription was off in one eye which can also cause issues...

so he said put drops in 4x a day and update prescription and see if it helps..

Would be nice if that actually fixed things...  I'm not holding my breath tho. 😂

Agreed, I am disappointed in the recent GFCO findings as well and definitely don't hold them in as high of a regard as I used to. I did find on the Global Foods website after posting that their required ppm limit is 20ppm, which isn't as low as I had hoped. I'll email and report back. Thx.
    • trents
Never heard of them. They give an email address so if I were you I would contact them and ask those questions. It would be wonderful if they had tighter requirements than GFCO in the sense of more frequent batch testing and even random testing. Recent news articles on this forum from back in this summer have revealed that GFCO is letting us down.

Two things: 1. If you are using drops 3x a day you should be sure to use preservative free. The preservatives themselves can cause irritation. 2. If the problem does not resolve, you may want to have a rheumatologist check for Sjogren's. There appears to be a relationship between celiac and Sjogren's.

I have purchased Roastery Coast nuts in the past and just went to purchase some and noticed a different gluten free certification on their packages (used to have GFCO certification) that I've never heard of before. Anyone have info on this certification company Global Food and what their requirements are for companies to be certified (ppm limit, audits, testing, etc)?  Thx.   https://www.globalfoodcert.org/
