Biopsy during COVID-19?

Hello all 👋 🙂

Last week I had a call from the doctor to say  I have coeliac disease from my blood tests but I have to wait for a biopsy for confirmation.

The doctor was not too sure if they were still running these tests during COVID. She said she would write to them and get back in touch.

I am wondering if anyone else has been to one of these biopsy’s recently, during the pandemic and if so, how long does it usually take to be seen for the biopsy and then again, after that, how long before you receive your results?

Thanks

Marc ✌️

The current recommendation for children is to diagnose celiac disease without a biopsy, and it's unclear to me why the same recommendation wouldn't also be true for adults. More and more doctors are diagnosing celiac disease without a biopsy, so perhaps discuss this with your doctor.

To do the biopsy you would need to continue eating gluten daily until the test, and it sounds like this could mean that you'd have to eat gluten for weeks or months, which is not ideal if you have CD.

I was undiagnosed for quite a few years. I now have neuropathy in my hands and feet. Be watchful of something like this and definitely see a neurologist if having symptoms like numbness in your extremities.
