I have to agree, that is a wonderful article. I just sent it out to my family and friends. Thank you for posting it, as I am having some of those issues now. It helps to see others that have the same issues.

Thank you for posting this article. I am sending it to my Mother with Dr. Green's book today. She was dx'd Monday and she is already questioning the dx since she doesn't feel better....excuse me 'you've probably been sick for over 15 years....you're not going to feel better in 2.5 days on the gluten-free diet'. Can anyone tell me if you were sick for a long period of time, how long it was before you felt any better at all? I was sick for a short period and after two weeks all my bloating was gone. In four weeks my energy level was way up. But I'm afriad that Mother will go off the diet if she's not responding like me. Even though I've told her in ten different ways she will recovery more slowly due to being sick for so much longer. If anyone can relate to what she's going through (since I can't) will you share with me your experience and how you were glad you stuck it out and finally began to get your life back? Please understand I need something encouraging to share with my Mother. She has many classic symptoms, arthritis, thyroid disease....a biopsy dx'd daughter with Celaic....she has Celiac. But I need to help her understand you have to give your body time to heal after wreaking havoc on it for all those years.

Thanks in advance if anyone can share anything....positive posts only please. You'll understand I'm not going to share anything that will not encourage her.

Thanks for sharing that link. what a great article!

As far as how long it takes to feel better -

I felt a lot better within a week of eating gluten-free, but months passed as some symptoms subsided and new ones appeared. A (stupid) gluten challenge 2 years later set back all my progress, and even the gluten-free diet didn't make me feel better. I am now on a totally grain-free, legume-free and dairy-free diet (let's call is 'paleo' or caveman diet); it's the only way I feel well.

Here's the thing - some people take longer to heal than others. If you aren't feeling better on the gluten-free diet, perhaps you're missing something in your diet and mistakenly feeding yourself gluten. (Check lipsticks, balms, hand lotion if you ever lick your fingers, makeup base, re-using old cast iron pans that you used to use for wheat, using a toaster that's shared with wheat, etc) OR if you still aren't feeling better, perhaps there is another intolerance that was missed (dairy, casein, peanuts, etc)

Please remind your mother that she will most likely need additional supplements to help heal the gut - things like probiotics (acidophilus, for example) and colostrum. A nutritionist or naturopath can help with things like that. I wish I had taken those right away, but am feeling better since using them on a regular basis.

Best wishes,

K.

Thanks a lot! I will search that too. I also talked to another doctor and she assured me there is no gluten in this type of antibiotics. Anyway i started the administration of Augmentin on my girl this evening. I hope there will be no problems.

Good afternoon, I don’t know if anyone here has ever tried Braswell’s products like their marmalades or jellies? Are they gluten-free? On the ingredients says “cane sugar, cherries (cherries, cane sugar), strawberries, corn syrup, pectin and citric acid. That ingredient list is from their berry preserve bottle. Most of them say the same for ingredients, but I’m not sure if it is okay to consume.

I have seen this problem many times. I always get in touch with the company. Most times they tell me if I'm just gluten free it is ok, but do not eat it if you are celiac. Calling the company is the best way when you are not sure. Yesterday I had a different example of products being marked gluten-free.  I love chocolate and have a piece each day. The chocolate bar I like is Chocolove. When I bought one this week it was not marked gluten-free. I called the company to find out why and if it was still gluten-free.  Turns out the manufacturer decided there was too much on the wrapper and took off the gluten-free label. It is made in a dedicated gluten-free facility.
