More about Covid and its Variants

Sorry that the Covid information I typed to you disappeared just because I answered the telephone!

This information is from a British Newspaper that my family in England sent to me. These diagrams are not only difficult to interpret, they also scare me.  Daily new cases indicate 4000,0-00 show an explosion of variants in the United Kingdom. Increases in cases represents change over the last 24 hours. One heading indicates "Britain cut off by Canada and others as new Covid strains soar." (It is the shock of the 4000,000 that is most concerning, and they list that as their VARIANTS!  https://www.nbdnews.com/news/world/britain-cut-canada-others-new-covid...Under travel Coronavirus bans imposed by President Donald Trump most foreign nationals who have been    to Europe in the past 14 days are prevented from entering the U.S.  (This must have been written prior to the new Election of your New President.=, though I thought your restrictions had been relaxed since January of 2021.  There are many regions listed as Great Britain including parts of Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Deaths there have reached 126.980. They reached their third wave in December 31, 2020. updated on April 8 at 2:53 p.m. - 132,929,8322,885. Deaths were listed as 885, 4017543.  Startubg ib tgus dayt 100plus cases were confirmed in each region.

They seem to have reached their third wave in December 31, 2000- January 2021 and that spike was huge.  Starting in January 2021

Two new variants have been found in England. A new Covid Variant ?  :_ Officials are worried because Scientists have identified 16 new cases of another variant see GreataBritiain  (February 16, 2021 mB1.525 appears  People under the age of 30 are being offered an alternative to the Astra Zeneca vaccine after review into rare blood clots.  (which turns out to be more than they anticipated.  Yet people are still booking flights to England because, they think they are immune to the Variants because they have had the vaccine for Covid. Not so. There is a scheme to share vaccines withother countries. A scheme to distribute Covid 19 vaccines globally is under way. Here is what you need to know.  {Go on to the BBC Web site and type in Coronaviruspandemic.

India has now ramped up its vaccines as daily cases hit 1000,000. {The world's biggest inoculation drive aims to cover 250 million people by July). A rather large project in a heavily populated ccountry.

THE QUESTIONS OF CONCERN LISTED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BRITISH PAGE SAY:  "ARE SOME OF THE u>s. STATES ENDING LOCKDOWN TOO SOON?"

{My husband responded to me in November 2020 that I was being too negative about the Covid shots not covering the Variants. I wanted to know how they knew it would cover the VARIANTS?  Now they are not only talking about extending the second shot until three or four months after the first injection instead of two months. Is that because they are limited to how much Covid Juice we anticipate receiving or because of their research? And has their opinions changed with regards to the Covid 19 shots covering all the variants as well?  Seems not, wouldn't you agree?)

Stay Safe. Mask up. Is it that much trouble to put on a mask when you go out?  Our hospitals are full of Covid patients and our Nursing Homes are being massively hit, many deaths, family members closed off from their Nursing Home Seniors.

So far it looks like the vaccines do offer protection against the current variants, and certainly they offer far more protection than having no vaccine at all. Currently the leading strain of covid in California is the same as the one in Britain, and the vaccines have been shown to be effective against it.

I got my first vaccine dose two days ago (Moderna), but it sounds like you haven't gotten your yet--I though Canada would be more on top of this. Have you not gotten it by choice, or have you not been able to get it?

Vonnie,

If you are skeptical of Vaccines.....you might research the Monoclonal Antibody treatment by Regeneron.

Here is a nice article overview on Monoclonal antibody treatment for COVID-19…..might work as good as vaccines (even against variants)…..

With little side effects…IF you get infected this would/might be a good treatment protocol…..according to the article

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/04/12/covid-regeneron-to-request-fda-clearance-for-antibody-drug-as-preventative-treatment.html

Be warned it might be hard to find.....so be sure to do your research ahead of time.

You should also research Zinc as well.

See this nice article on Zinc entitled "Zinc-Altered Immune Function and Cytokine Production"

https://academic.oup.com/jn/article/130/5/1407S/4686394

See also this nice study about B-Vitamins Role in Covid-19

Entitled "Be well: A potential role for vitamin B in COVID-19"

I hope this is helpful but it is not medical advice.

Yes.  Proportionately a small piece to a toddler is like a whole slice to an adult.  This is an important clue.  She was doing well, accidentally ate gluten and later the old behavior returned. I remember reading posts here of people reacting to a kiss from someone who had just eaten gluten. Recent research indicates that 40% of first degree relatives of someone with Celiac have undiagnosed Celiac Disease.  Father, mother, siblings.  There is a whole list of symtoms of "silent celiac".  Here is an article of symptoms possibly mistaken for other causes than Celiac Disease.  When I finally stopped gluten at 63 years old, I counted 19 things that improved, including lifelong mouthbreathing.  I never smelled bad things, so I as a kid, I learned to respond to the other kid's response in order to not seem weird. I really recommend you pursue testing for all the family if you can, and the whole family following GFD.  It is difficult at first, but the benefits will be worth it.

I get these but where we are, they are called chicken potstickers. I would obviously suggest that it is the ginger in the product that is causing a stimulative digestive effect! So you might want to do what I do, just cook one of them with the rest of your meal so you don't have the same effect. I love the Feel Good products but they are on the expensive side. (I also drink Reed's ginger brew so in general, ginger is a friend of mine..when delivered at the right dose). Hope this helps and have a warm healthy week!

Has anyone had Steatorrhea (oily/fatty poop) as a temporary glutening symptom or should I be concerned I've introduced chronic gluten somewhere (like in meds)? I haven't gotten Steatorrhea since before I went gluten free. However, I moved in the past few weeks and haven't been as careful - I've eaten at restauraunts with cross contamination but only experienced minor symptoms like headache. The past week, I ate only gluten free food at home except I went to Red Robin and got fries (told them gluten-free; allergy). The next day I had Steatorrhea and the day after that.   I know it's a symptom of malabsorption so I was wondering if it was the kind of thing that could be caused by one event or if it was due to a more chronic issue. Of course I will speak to a GI but I recently moved and need to find one.   Thank you for any info

A relative has opened another door for me on this issue -- the possibility of menopause raising HDL. Most studies suggest that menopause decreases HDL-C, however, one study found that often it's increased. "Surprisingly, HDL cholesterol was higher (p < 0.001) in postmenopausal women by 11%. Further, the number of women who had low HDL cholesterol was higher in pre vs. postmenopausal women. The range of ages were 26–49 years for pre-menopausal and 51–74 years for postmenopausal women. "This interesting finding has also been observed by other investigators. It is possible that the observed increase in HDL-C in postmenopausal women could be due to a protective mechanism to counterbalance the deleterious effects of biomarkers associated with menopause. However, further studies are needed to confirm this theory. And to the point raised earlier about functionality: "...some patients with elevated HDL-C concentrations could remain at risk for coronary events if HDL is not functional and some authors have suggested that this could be the case for menopausal women." Postmenopausal Women Have Higher HDL and Decreased Incidence of Low HDL than Premenopausal Women with Metabolic Syndrome. By no means to I think this is definitive, rather food for thought.

Yes, lots of delicious things have barley malt. It also doesn't include rye. And there are a number of grains commonly cross contaminated such as oats.   Additionally, wheat allergies are different from gluten allergies as wheat allergies are a reaction to a wheat protein. So something *could* contain wheat gluten without causing a wheat allergic response (though realistically,  I don't know how likely that is to occur)
