Out of nowhere

last summer my wife and I were enjoying a late August day when I felt this sensation in my right upper molar region of my mouth.  I told my wife that I should see the dentist because something was going on.   It felt like a tooth was the center of this pain and each day it seemed to get worse.  The dentist could not confirm that the pain was coming from that tooth but did Find a tooth that needed a root canal not related to the initial problem.  After finishing that tooth we came back to the tooth I swore was causing all this pain.  My dentist could not perform a root canal because of the complexity of the tooth so I has to go to a specialist.  After he had finished the root canal there was no improvement in the pain.  The pain kept getting worse and especially at night.  For weeks I had to sleep sitting up which helped with the pain.  During this time I also noticed weight loss of about 15 pounds out of nowhere. Not being heavy to start with this had me thinking celiac.   After combing the internet I found an article on celiac and face pain.  As soon as I cut out the gluten the pain started to subside.i shared my story with my dentists who were very surprised about the gluten connection. The pain was the worst I have ever experienced and I have a high tolerance.  The pain was like no other I ever experienced.   It was like an electrical shock that would not go away.  I hope this helps other people out there with similar problems to show you ,yes gluten is not your friend and can cause health problems in different ways.

Trigeminal neuralgia?

Scott Adams Grand Master

I've never heard of an association between the type of nerve pain you describe, and celiac disease, but we've run many articles on the connection between celiac disease and enamel defects, which can be viewed below. Of course, it's possible that it was somehow related, but I've just not seen it described in any medical journals/studies.

I agree after reading some of the other responses.   Thank God I found gluten-free.

Hi Bradford

Sorry but I've taken a while to see this.

I remember reading one online article some years ago on this - basically, it said that for some coeliacs a strict gluten free diet can help resolve TN pain.   I cannot find it now, of course!  But thank you for posting - I really hope this info. can be of help to other sufferers.

Thanks a lot! I will search that too. I also talked to another doctor and she assured me there is no gluten in this type of antibiotics. Anyway i started the administration of Augmentin on my girl this evening. I hope there will be no problems.

Good afternoon, I don’t know if anyone here has ever tried Braswell’s products like their marmalades or jellies? Are they gluten-free? On the ingredients says “cane sugar, cherries (cherries, cane sugar), strawberries, corn syrup, pectin and citric acid. That ingredient list is from their berry preserve bottle. Most of them say the same for ingredients, but I’m not sure if it is okay to consume.

I have seen this problem many times. I always get in touch with the company. Most times they tell me if I'm just gluten free it is ok, but do not eat it if you are celiac. Calling the company is the best way when you are not sure. Yesterday I had a different example of products being marked gluten-free.  I love chocolate and have a piece each day. The chocolate bar I like is Chocolove. When I bought one this week it was not marked gluten-free. I called the company to find out why and if it was still gluten-free.  Turns out the manufacturer decided there was too much on the wrapper and took off the gluten-free label. It is made in a dedicated gluten-free facility.
