Very disappointed

😔

I’ve been reading sooo much about celiac. Thank you ‘kitty kitty,’ as I really enjoy  the links to published articles. But dang, I’m 49yr old, and  I would say I’m quite ‘healthy’ all in all. But looking back over the years I’m so disappointed that my doctors failed to explore reasons for my ‘conditions’. I should not have had a dx of early osteoporosis in my 30’s!   Why wouldn’t they look into finding an answer for my osteopenia, fatigue, depression, anemia, being so young ? I feel very let down. I’m realizing that I need to learn and take things into my own hands because the hands I was trusting, really don’t know. For fun I goggle how to become a registered  nutritionist/dietitian. Even though I have a degree in nursing, I would have to start over, basically from scratch. Not that I want to achieve a new degree,  but while reading, I learned physicians are not really even educated in this area. So basically, I probably know more about celiac today, than my MD. 😥

It's "knitty kittty" but I'm sure she probably figured it out.

Yep! Few and far between are those physicians, even many GI docs included, who know much about celiac disease or are not operating from very dated information that they received back in medical school many years ago. You are now an expert compared to what most of them know. And, yep! You have to take them by the hand when it comes to diagnosing celiac disease and you have to take control as much as possible or nothing gets done.

I have the same feeling. I have gut issues for two years. Doctors couldn't give me any helpful advice. Recently I read a book, It says:

I think it's really helpful for everyone to know something about nutrition and psychology, So we can better protect ourselves.

And to be our own medical advocates by being appropriately assertive.

I was undiagnosed for quite a few years. I now have neuropathy in my hands and feet. Be watchful of something like this and definitely see a neurologist if having symptoms like numbness in your extremities.

Hello, @jadeceoliacuk, Has your son been tested for nutritional deficiencies?  Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of essential nutrients which can result in nutritional deficiencies.  Supplementing with essential vitamins and minerals is beneficial.   I would find a nutritionist more knowledgeable about Celiac and ASD, before taking herbal supplements that don't contain essential vitamins.
