Stomach ache since going gluten-free?

Hi everyone,

I started my gluten free diet a month ago after receiving an official celiac diagnosis. I haven’t really felt any different since going gluten-free, although I didn’t seem to have digestive symptoms like stomach aches when I WAS consuming gluten.

Anyways, last night I had a terrible stomach ache and can’t figure out why. Everything that I ate yesterday was prepackaged or prepared in my home, and I haven’t had any issues with eating these items since going gluten free. The only thing I can think of is that yesterday I dumped out some packaged oats and pasta that I had in my pantry that I no longer use because of celiac. I coughed a bit after dumping these out, but didn’t think anything of it at the time.

I just think it’s all strange since digestive symptoms haven’t seemed to be a part of my celiac disease so far. Any thoughts? Maybe it’s just a stress stomach ache, but seems weird.

Celiacs still get bugs and viruses, or eat food that may have bacteria in it, so it certainly could be just some type of bug, rather than gluten.

You also may have additional intolerance issues, for example if you eat gluten-free oats it turns out about 10% of celiacs also have an oat intolerance, so if you eat oats you may want to stop for a while, and keep a food diary when you ad them back (and perhaps do this with other foods).

I am asking for my six year old. It took us four months to figure out what was going on- a brand of extra virgin olive oil we were using for every meal. We changed the brand she instantly got better- from Gi to nephropathy to joint pain, to tinnitus to dry eyes. You name a symptom and she has it when glutened, so it's difficult to second guess when it's all so obvious. Anyway, two months later, i bought another bottle of the same brand, and the olive oil was sourced form 5 different countries, as opposed to one. It took exactly a month for her symptom to start all over again. And sure enough it was the oil! I am sorta getting tired of trying to get these "healthy" oils glutening her. Does anyone have any thought on cooking oils that they think for sure are not contaminated, or any certified glutenfee brands they suggest? I'd appreciate. At this point, I just need any oil that's free of contamination- healthy or otherwise. Healthier is better. But i'll tkae anything. Thanks

@CeliacPsycho246, You might try cutting out dairy.  Some of us react to Casein, the protein in dairy, the same as to gluten.

Yep, the edit window times out very quickly. It's okay. I got a good laugh out of it.
