I have been gluten  free for approximately 30 years.   In March I started some diarrhea issues, and it continues.  I think it is connected to a generic brand bottled water or it might be my multiple vitamin, my body doesn't need it maybe.  So I quit both of them yesterday.  I haven't had problems in years.  What is the best way to help my body heal, I am on the BRAT diet - bananas, rice, applesauce and toast- gluten free of course.  Are there other foods that can help?

Welcome to the forum, and I'm sorry to hear about your recent issues.

It's very doubtful that bottled water would contain any gluten, but if your gluten-free breads contain xanthan gum, or other gums like guar gum, it could cause IBS issues in some people:

You may need to keep a food diary and try eliminating certain foods like casein/cow's milk, soy, corn, etc., if the tip above doesn't help

Nicotinic Acid.   I get my vitamins from pipingrock.com.  They are gluten free and inexpensive but high quality.

What Brand vitamin D are you taking?  What else is in it?  Do I understand correctly that you take 1500 IU of vitamin D and you get comatose and headaches and if you don't you are oK?   A diet consisting mainly of white flour, white sugar, and other highly processed carbohydrates can cause thiamin deficiency. At first, people have vague symptoms such as fatigue and irritability, but a severe deficiency (beriberi) can affect the nerves, muscles, heart, and brain. Your diet seems adequate.  Are you getting enough B1,B2, B3, B5 and B12? Are you taking any other prescriptions or supplements?

Ok, I'm going to start to answer my own question - it looks like to get meals that are free of these ingredients, you need to go to backpackers/hikers freeze dried food. Which is a lot more expensive and has a shorter shelf life (the longest I've found so far is 5 years). But I could see getting my own tight seal bucket and storing up a supply of these if I can't find anything cheaper. Does anyone have any experience with these if not the true 'survivalist' food?

My go to dried pastas are Ancient Harvest, Le Veneziane and Bionature. All good, but probably Ancient Harvest is my favorite. Holds its shape and doesn't get mushy, has a little flavor.

I get EOS. They have lots of varieties and all gluten free.
