Hi I've been having symptoms for about 10 weeks now, diarrhoea every now and then but always loose orange coloured stools, stomach growls. my ears have been playing up like whooshing sounds and fullness with a bit of light headiness.bad acid reflux and sweating more then usual not sweating the bed at night just in the day time getting a bit more sweaty under armpits. I have been getting bad headaches at the back of the head and my ( blood pressure is quite high this could be due to the steriod nose sprays hopefully) or is high blood pressure due to eating gluten. I have a blood test and come back a high positive. Endoscope in about 17 days from now. Has anyone else experienced this?

Welcome to the forum, Oliverg!

We need more information about your testing? You mention a "high positive" blood test. Can you be more specific? Was that test done to check for celiac disease? There are several antibody tests from blood that can be used to detect celiac disease. Do you have access to the test results and if so, can you post them with reference rages for negative vs. positive?

Several symptoms you describe (loose, orange-colored stools, stomach growls, headaches, acid  reflux) are often associated with celiac disease. The high blood pressure and "whoosing sounds" in your ears are concerning and the sweating as well. There may be more than one thing going on. Have you had your thyroid, blood sugar and iron levels checked?

Do not start eating gluten free until after your endoscopy or it may give a false negative.

Hi thanks for the reply!

The doc didn't give me a result it was said over the phone to me they just said you've come back as a high positive for tTG-IgA and tTG-IgG .. I have about 6 members in my family sister aunt cousins etc who are celiac. I have had a full blood count kindeys, liver thyroids sugar levels etc..

I fell of a ladder in December and broke my elbow and snapped the radial head and coronoid and disclocation had metals pins and screws in and haven't been able to straighten my arm for 5 months and need more surgery has the 1st op has failed.. so I'm under a little stress from that as well as finding out I have celiac.

Sorry didn't mean for the life story bit of an emotional wreck at minute. Don't know wether I'm just really anxious and stressed with what's going on at the minute hopefull that's what causing the sweating and blood pressure if celiacs don't suffer from the above.

my blood pressure is 136/90

so the whooshing sounds in ears and ear fullness hasnt anything to do with celiac?

thanks your time

I would be concerned that the whooshing sound in your ears might be something like a partial obstruction in a carotid artery from plaque and also connected with high blood pressure, though your blood pressure really isn't all that high.

No problem with sharing your anxiety level. It's very understandable under the circumstances. This forum community is supportive of the many facets of celiac disease/gluten sensitivity because these conditions affect us in non-medical ans well as medical ways. That's real life.

@Oliverg,

Tinnitus can be caused by low Vitamin B12.

Vitamin B12 can also cause sweating, but that's usually night sweats in post menopausal woman.

Vitamin D deficiency can cause sweating.

The  increased sweating could be from high blood sugar.  Have you been checked for Diabetes?  It might just be high blood sugar from eating gluten before your blood test and endoscopy.  It might resolve on a gluten free diet.

Anyway, being tested for vitamin and mineral deficiencies is part of proper follow up care for Celiac people.

Of course, only a doctor can give you a definitive diagnosis.  In addition to celiac disease, your symptoms are classic for chronic, extreme anxiety/panic disorder, which affects the cardiovascular, GI, hearing, temperature regulation, and virtually every part of the entire body.  For example, HBP while often symptomless, can also cause headaches.   See anxietycentre.com for a good, detailed explanation of the mind-body connection.

Regardless of the cause of your physical symptoms, it is vital to learn how to relax/destress (and make diet modifications to gluten-free diet) in order to reduce that blood pressure and rid your body of gluten to facilitate healing.   You may also benefit from a small dose anti-anxiety/anti-depressant and counseling.   It has been very helpful for me.

Lots of dis-ease symptoms can be connected to Celiac's, and it causes malabsorption, which leads to vitamin deficiencies.  Eating gluten free doesn't just suddenly build back those deficiencies, it takes a very long time, depending on how long you have had malabsorption (I was diagnosed at age 59 and probably had it for a very long time).

Once I got diagnosed and went gluten free, I worked with a very good naturopath (and thanks to more information from @knitty kittyhere) that had experience with Celiac patients and their common deficiencies. For example, I found that I had a big B1 deficiency, but regular B1 supplements didn't do the trick, we had to experiment with various forms of B1.  Same thing with other B vitamins.  My blood pressure started coming down soon after that and now I do not take any prescription medications at all (I'm 65 now).

OH!  Also my severe asthma cleared up. I was having to take albuterol inhaler about every hour, now only once a day after my pushups and situps.  I think it was the B1 in form of benfothiamine that did that.

High blood pressure can be a result of not enough potassium. With Celiac villi damage you have malabsorption and diahrea causes potassium loss from the colon. Double whammy.

Sodium/Potassium Ratio Linked to Cardiovascular Disease Risk "Recent national nutrition surveys show that, on average, Americans consume about 3300 mg of sodium per day (almost 1-1/2 tsp per day of salt) and 2600 mg potassium per day. These are far from the recommended goals of 2300 mg or less for sodium and 4700 mg or more for potassium. In fact, a recent report found that only 13% of the population is meeting the sodium goal and well below 5% is meeting the potassium goal."

High-sodium or low-potassium diets are well-known environmental factors for hypertension, especially in some hypertensive patients who are salt sensitive   https://www.karger.com/Article/FullText/443107

I was diagnosed in November with celiacs and at the time had been tested for multiple vitamin deficiencies. During that time my folate level was 4ng/mL, Although I was told to take supplements, I ended up only taking them for a week or so as they made my stomach upset. I had my blood work redone yesterday and as the results came in I noticed that most of my levels are now normal, but folate level is >24ng/mL. Has anyone else had similar results? If so were you able to figure out why or how to normalize them? I also have been having constant acid reflux since about two weeks into going gluten free (no acid reflux history prior to) that we are trying to get to the bottom of with no answers. Could that be related? Thank you!! Also wanted to not that I am not eating any gluten free processed food.

Did you take a look at my pics that I uploaded?    These rashes is not itchy, but I have seen that people have this too that have celiac and it’s not itchy for them either. I have also heard that sulfur burps are a common things with celiac too.  Yes it can be something else too but it’s to much symptoms that I have that match with either gluten sensitivity or celiac.   Hopefully it’s just gluten intolerance and not celiac.  As I said before I have the gen type for celiac and diabetes typ 1 and the those diseases going hand in hand.    Thanks again Trent for your time to reply, and I wonder if any body else have kind of the same symptoms that I have?

Welcome Connie Smitj,  Did you have a follow up test to see if the treatment for H Pylori was successful?  It's possible to catch it again, especially from a partner.  When I contracted it a second time my wife was tested and was positive for two of the bacteria in H Pylori.

Welcome to the forum, @Connie Smitj! Can you give us a little more history about your celiac journey? How long ago were you diagnosed and how long have your been gluten free? Do you have other symptoms besides quick onset of hunger after eating and gut pain? How long have these symptoms being happening?
    • Connie Smitj
I eat a gluten-free diet but hunger pains start within an hour of eating dinner. I  had h pylori infection before I was diagnosed. Occasionally I’ll have bouts of pain. Could it come back or is it just celiac disease?
