Input on Native Deodorant??

Hello all,

Wanted to get some others' opinions of the brand Native and how you would interpret this information (or if you just want to share your own experiences with the brand).

Let me go ahead and say, obviously I'm not going to eat my deodorant. But I can be very clumsy and forgetful, so I usually try to keep even body care items gluten free due to the possibility of accidental ingestion (like if I get some of the deodorant on my hand without realizing, then happen to touch near my mouth later or something). I'm also extremely sensitive to CC with food items, so I probably seem more paranoid than other celiacs, but it's for good reason. One exposure to CC has kept me sick for weeks to months in the past.

I did contact Native to ask about gluten in their products and this was their response:

"Thanks for reaching out to us! While Native products are made without any intentionally added gluten, our facilities are not certified gluten-free. However, our cleaning and sanitizing process between each product produced ensure no cross-contamination of gluten."

Do you think this is still a risk? I'm leaning towards it being okay, but I don't want to be stupid or careless.

What do you guys think?

I worry about getting contaminated by something that contains gluten.  I worry about eating something that might be contaminated with gluten. But I don’t worry about getting contaminated by something that might be contaminated with gluten.  At that point I feel the risk, and the possible amount of gluten, would be extremely low.

Even if you are as sensitive as you have mentioned, I believe that since you are not eating this that information from Native would be enough for me to think that it is safe. Even if there were a tiny amount of contamination in the very first part of their manufacturing run due to something in the machinery that wasn't cleaned properly (this risk is likely very small), it is, after all, deodorant, so such small levels could not harm you anyway.

I guess I would encourage you to abstain from the wine for a while. If you know something causes you pain then it is a good idea not to do it if you don't have to.

Encouraging to hear others have had this pain and thanks for the responses   yes I was checked, no H pylori.

We have had numbers of others on this forum report pain in that same area. Have you been checked for an H. Pylori infection? This is something very common in the celiac population.

Hi! Yes I have, endoscopy didn’t show anything other than celiacs. I’ve been wondering if it’s possibly that my intestines are so damaged that the wine is irritating because they have not fully healed. Very odd, I felt better for a few weeks and then all the sudden started noticing the pain again after the weekends when I drink wine (don’t drink during the week). I’ve also heard that dull left side pain isn’t a common symptom with celiacs so my diagnosis was surprising to doctor as well though the pain did initially subside with gluten-free diet.

Welcome to the forum, @Celiacsugh! Have you been checked for a gastric or peptic ulcer?
