Celiac, IBS, SIBO and an online health clinic

Does anyone know of an online reputable health clinic that will help me manage my celiac, IBS and what I now believe to be SIBO. I cannot get my local doctors or a GI to assist as I did not have the biopsy done for diagnosis. I saw a few online options but I am concerned that they are just looking to sell you their miracle cures and formulas. I continue to remain so very sick and my PCP told me I need to see a GI and the GI won't treat me without going back on gluten and then doing a biopsy.

Is there a different GI that would see you? Not sure where you live, but that seems pretty awful. Is there a way you can self refer? Some insurances allow that. Again, not sure where you are from. I am sorry you are going through all of this and I hope you find a medical professional who will listen.

Because of the insurance I have when I see a specialist (which takes about two months for a new patient), I have to. pay out-of-pocket, which is hundreds of dollars. I don't want to go to another GI for them to say, "Patient states came here at direction primary care provider since "GI is supposed to be the expert" but is largely self directing his therapy." That is what the GI wrote in the report after I went to him. Actually the truth is the PCP would not treat me as he is unfamiliar with Celiac and referred me to this GI who told me that you cannot diagnose Celiac without doing a biopsy. He wanted me to go back on gluten and have the procedure done. So, a year later and a new PCP and I recently asked to have bloodwork done for deficiencies and here is what my new PCP said, "I added in the requested labs, but you'll probably have to pay for some of them.  I did my best to justify some of them, but this is an exhaustive list that isn't usually covered."  Really an exhaustive list? I asked him for the following, which I don't feel is exhaustive.

-Transglutaminase IgA or a tTg-IgA blood test
-Tests for iron, folate/folic acid, vitamin D, zinc, copper, calcium and vitamin B status (including B6/ B12/homocysteine levels)

You can get the celiac antibodies for around $100, online. Poke your finger and send it back to be analyzed. I’m pretty sure you can do vitamins ones too, but not 💯 sure which ones or how they are resulted. May be cheaper and at least give you some ideas about possible deficiencies. Healthcare is so frustrating!!

Yes, that is my new GO TO...online testing. I use "Request a Test" and so far they seem to be legit. I just had the genetic testing done as I just wanted further confirmation. My doctor would not order the copper test that I've been reading about so I might get that done.

Thanks for advice and indeed...healthcare is frustrating.

Welcome to the forum, your symptoms are certainly consistent with possible celiac disease. Were you eating lots of gluten daily in the 6-8 weeks before the test? If not it could lead to false negative results. When you post your results please also include the reference ranges, as each lab uses their own. Good luck!

Keep us posted on your results. I hope you don't have to wait too long. Are you planning to have your son tested? Do you feel your father might get tested? Wishing you all better health.🍀

Were you eating lots of gluten in the 6-8 weeks before your blood test? If not, you can end up with false negative results. Feel free to share your blood test results--were your antibody levels elevated at all?  Approximately 10x more people have non-celiac gluten sensitivity than have celiac disease, but there isn’t yet a test for NCGS. If your symptoms go away on a gluten-free diet it would likely signal NCGS. If your biopsy ends up negative you still may want to go gluten-free for a few months to see if your symptoms go away. Also, be sure to eat tons of gluten daily in the 2 weeks leading up to your endoscopy, otherwise you could get false negative results.

It's difficult to say exactly why, but it is worth discussing this with your doctor, as it can by a symptom of other things--especially if you're also losing weight.

Hi I finally visited with the Dr today and she ordered labs to be done. Not just for celiac disease but about 7 blood tests in total including iron levels. I’m 30 years old.  My symptoms are  -Chronic diarrhea. In the last month and I half I had it multiple times a day, everyday. Pretty often occurrences  before I really started paying attention.  -frequent headaches  -fatigue -had my appendix removed 1 year ago due to appendicitis (not sure if this is related) -frequent stomach rumbling and gas -sleep disturbances-waking up multiple times a night (3-5 times a night) -severe restless leg syndrome  -generally just don’t feel well on a daily basis -hands and feet get cold very easily tingly feet -anxiety/depression/mood swings/irritability . I take medication for bipolar disorder and anxiety but still have anxiety  -sometimes get acid reflux. And sometimes it’s really bad. Like wake up choking on vomit thinking I’m gonna die bad.  My son is 6 and has excema, is anemic, is on 2nd percentile for growth, gets constipated, and is at risk of having seizures… My Dad was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis as a kid 50 years ago, and has a non alcoholic fatty liver, is anemic, and is fatigued.    I’ll post my results as soon as I get them. To be honest I’m hoping it is celiac disease as it could explain so many things I’m dealing with.
