Remembering our lovely Queen

I know this has nothing to do with Coeliac disease but as a British contributor to this forum I hope you don't mind if I mark the passing of the Queen.   A very sad day.

I found this sweet image on the internet, reminding me of the video she made with Paddington The Bear to mark her Platinum Jubilee only three months ago.   I wanted to post that video but it won't let me, but if you haven't seen it, it is on youtube.   It is entitled "Ma’amalade sandwich Your Majesty?"

Yes, as very sad day indeed! What an amazing reign, and life!! 96, that's amazing!

King Charles has some big shoes to fill, and he seems to have grown up quite a lot since his days with Princess Dianna. I hope he can live up to his new role!

By the way...long live the King! 😃

Condolences, @cristiana.

Wonderful video!  I always wondered what she carried in her purse.  She will be greatly missed.

Thank you both.

What the Queen actually carried in her handbag was hotly debated!   That was a real coup, trust Paddington the Bear to find out!  I am not sure if it was a gluten free sandwich, though...

She was so loved, and even people who didn't think themselves as Royalists are saying how surprised they are at how upset they find themselves at her passing.

My own family, like so many others in this country, had her as a guest every Christmas - in a manner of speaking - when everything stopped at 3pm on Christmas Day for the annual Christmas "Queen's Speech" on TV.   She was on TV all the time, visiting hospitals, welcoming Heads of State, etc and was the patron of so many charities.

It feels very disorientating that someone who has been there for seventy years has gone.

So very sorry for your loss.  She was so graceful and gracious. A true example of service in action. May she rest in peace reunited with the love of her life.   Best wishes to King Charles III and long live the King!

I am so sorry for your loss...what a remarkable person she was!  I've been to England twice...I remember standing outside of Buckingham Palace hoping to somehow get a glimpse of her.  I loved visiting Windsor Castle and all of it's rich history.  Queen Elizabeth will be dearly missed by people through out the world, including myself.

And the bit with Paddington was amazing!

Thank you @icelandgirl, for your kind words, she will be greatly missed.  I just cannot get the images of the past few days out of my mind, scenes I am sure I will never forget - whether it was the mile long parade down Pall Mall or the scene where her corgis were sitting outside Windsor Castle, waiting for her return....

I was privileged enough to attend her Golden Jubilee Party (along with thousands of others, mind you!) at Buckingham Palace 20 years ago.   You could apply for free tickets, it was a sort of lottery, and ours were chosen.  All the Royal family were there, the Prime Minister, too, and - bizarrely - Mr Bean (or if you prefer, Johnny English).  It was the most incredible experience.   We were all given mini hampers for a picnic which I have kept, including a bottle of champagne which probably has passed its best by now, but I don't want to open it.

Now are thoughts and prayers are with our King, of course.  We think the Coronation will be in the Spring.  Maybe you could come over for that?!👑

Yes!  Then we'd have to figure out a way to meet up for tea!

Welcome to the forum, @TexasCeliacNewbie! The test results you posted strongly point to celiac disease. It is likely that your physician will want to perform an endoscopy with biopsy of the small bowel lining to confirm the results of the celiac antibody bloodwork results you just posted. It is important that you not cut back on gluten consumption until the endoscopy/biopsy is complete, assuming, that is, one is forthcoming.  Can you post the actual reference ranges used by the lab for the tests to determine positive/negative/normal/high/low? Scales used by these labs are different from one place to the other so the raw numbers don't mean much without the scale used by the lab. There aren't industry standards for this. By the way, you probably won't be able to edit the original post so please post the extra info in new post. May we ask about the cancer you mentioned? There are some things that can elevate the antibody test scores, at least mildly, besides celiac disease.

Hi, I have been having a lot of back pain and gut issues for 8 weeks or so.  I saw the GI on Monday and my results just came in from the lab.  Some of these number are high and off the little chart from the lab.  I am reading this correctly that I most likely have Celiac, right???  It would explain a lot of things for me that otherwise are worrying me that my previous cancer is recurring.  Thank you for all of your expertise in this area! Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 140 (normal) Deamidated Gliadin Abs, IgA 256 (High) Deamidated Gliadin Abs, IgG 65 (High) t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA 31 (High) t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgG 10 (High)

So, I would assume it means that if the risk of developing celiac disease in the general population is 1%, people with the DQ2 gene have a 10% risk of developing celiac disease. So, have you or your physician concluded that you have celiac disease?
    • TerryinCO
Here's the test result I was refering to.  I may not be understanding this correctly.

Thanks for the update @TerryinCO! Would you elaborate what you mean when you say your genetic tests show that you are "10x higher" for developing celiac disease? 10x higher than what? There are two main genes, HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8, that have been identified as providing the potential for developing celiac disease. Since 40% of the population carries one or both of these genes but only 1% of the population actually develops celiac disease, the genetic test cannot be used to diagnose celiac disease, simply to establish the potential for developing it. Gene testing is usually done to rule out celiac disease vs. NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). In other words, if gluten consumption is definitely causing someone problems but they don't have the genetic potential for developing celiac disease then the diagnosis would be NCGS. We also know that having both DQ2 and DQ8 puts one at higher risk for developing celiac disease than having just one or the other. But I'm not sure I've ever seen it quantified as in "10x higher". Not sure what you mean by this.
