Hi all,

Started a gluten free diet to help with digestion and yesterday I ate a banana, some raspberries, a gluten free bar from aldi and a katsu veg pot. After eating the veg pot my stomach was bloated and I’ve had constipation pain and a hard stomach all night. I’m wondering if I ate too much fibre in one go or it the veg pot actually contained gluten. I’ve listed the ingredients below. Thanks

Carrot (24%), Cooked Brown Rice (23%) (Brown Rice, Water), Diced Onion, Spring Greens (9%), Cooked Edamame 𝐒𝐨𝐲𝐚 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 (6%), Mango Chutney (Mango, Sugar, Salt, Garlic, Black Peppercorns, Cardamom Pods, Whole Cloves, Acidity Regulator: Acetic Acid; Cumin Seeds, Fenugreek Seeds, Nigella Seeds, Herbs), Cooked Green Lentils (3%), Cooked Black Lentils (3%), Coconut Milk (Coconut Extract, Water), Ginger Purée, Rapeseed Oil, Vegetable Bouillon [Salt, Rice Flour, Raw Cane Sugar, Onion, Yeast Extract, 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐲, Carrot, Sunflower Oil, Turmeric, Mushrooms, Herbs, Concentrated Vegetable Juice (Carrot, Onion), Fennel Seeds, Pumpkin, Lovage, Garlic], Garlic Puree, Sugar, Curry Powder (Coriander, Turmeric Powder, Fenugreek Powder, Salt, 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐝, Garlic, Cornflour, Fennel Powder, Chilli Powder, 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐲, Sunflower Oil, Bay Leaves, Ground Cloves), Agave Syrup, Coriander Powder, Water, White Rice Flour, Garam Masala (Coriander, Cinnamon, Cloves, Ginger, Ground Star Anise, Cumin, Chilli, Fennel, Black Pepper, Ground Bay Leaf, Sunflower Oil, Nutmeg, Cardamom), Turmeric, 𝐒𝐨𝐲𝐚 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬, Salt, Potato Starch, Tapioca Starch, Maize Flour, Spirit Vinegar, Buckwheat Flour.

The ingredients listed are all gluten-free, however, this does not mean that they could not be cross-contaminated. Spices, including curry powder, as well as other ingredients, can be cross-contaminated. It's usually best to look for "Gluten-Free" on the ingredient label if possible.

Are you using the same mixer that you used for your gluten containing baking? That could be your culprit.

I would ask for a total IGA test (aka, Immunoglobulin A (IgA) and other names as well) to check for IGA deficiency. That test should always be ordered along with the TTG IGA. If someone is IGA deficient, their individual celiac IGA test scores will be artificially low which can result in false negatives. Make sure you are eating generous amounts of gluten leading up to any testing or diagnostic procedure for celiac disease to ensure validity of the results. 10g of gluten daily for a period of at least 2 weeks is what current guidelines are recommending. That's the amount of gluten found in about 4-6 slices of wheat bread.

There was not a total IGA test done, those were the only two ordered. I would say I was consuming a normal amount of gluten, I am not a huge bread or baked goods eater

Were you consuming generous amounts of gluten in the weeks leading up to the blood draw for the antibody testing? And was there a Total IGA test done to test for IGA deficiency?

Thank you for the reply. It was the TTG IGA that was within normal limits
