Hi I have been coeliac for 2 years now. My eldest daughter is 4 and she has been on laxido for 2 years due to contispation, I got her tested all came back ok. Now she a little older she is getting better. Could be have been the dairy milk perhaps. My youngest daughter is 3 and she is always constipated and she often gets diarreah , she is always bloated, moaning of tummy aches before bed and also as a little DH rash on her arm a few blistery pimples. I've done some research and they seem to think it's harder to diagnose children through blood test is this true? She is having her blood test this week. I've left it this long as her elder sister had similar problems but as the DH rash appeared I thought it would be time to get the test done. Any info on young children getting diagnosed ? My sister , Aunty and her brother and 3x cousins are also coeliac so seems to be reoccurring thing with the family .

I'll report back in couple weeks as that's how long it takes to get result I'll continue her On a gluten diet as usual. If she is there is no way on earth I'll be putting her through and endoscopy ( not sure they do for young kid) but can be very traumatic for adults. I heard they are trying to find away around testing rather than endoscopes now as they are quite invasive .

any info be appreciated thanks

One of my kids had issues for years. He was also losing weight eventhough  he ate a ton of food. Once I was diagnosed and put him on the gluten  free diet and he I'd now thriving.  All issues resolved.  He is even getting better marks at school.  His celiac test came back negative.  So you never know. The pediatrician run a ton of tests all negative.

This article might be helpful. It breaks down each type of test, and what a positive results means in terms of the probability that you might have celiac disease. One test that always needs to be done is the IgA Levels/Deficiency Test (often called "Total IGA") because some people are naturally IGA deficient, and if this is the case, then certain blood tests for celiac disease might be false-negative, and other types of tests need to be done to make an accurate diagnosis. The article includes the "Mayo Clinic Protocol," which is the best overall protocol for results to be ~98% accurate.  Be sure they do the DGP-IgA and DGP-IgG (Deamidated Gliadin Peptide) Blood Tests for Celiac Disease.

Correct. I’m doing both in the same go though. Thanks for clarifying before I confused someone. I’m doing a colonoscopy for something else and then they added the endoscopy after the test.

It is a biopsy but it's not a colonoscopy, it's an endoscopy.

Well I’m going on the gluten farewell tour so they are about to find out lol. I keep saying biopsy but yeah it’s a scope and stuff. I’m a dummy but luckily my doctor is not.

The biopsy for celiac disease is done of the small bowel lining and in conjunction with an "upper GI" scoping called an endoscopy. A colonoscopy scopes the lower end of the intestines and can't reach up high enough to get to the small bowel. The endoscopy goes through the mouth, through the stomach and into the duodenum, which is at the upper end of the intestinal track. So, while they are scoping the duodenum, they take biopsies of the mucosal lining of that area to send off for microscopic analysis by a lab. If the damage to the mucosa is substantial, the doc doing the scoping can often see it during the scoping.
