Hi everyone

just wondering how long you had to wait for your Celiac blood test to come back? I’m in the U.K. Thanks.

Hello Sassybear,

Good to have you on board!

I'm posting from the UK.

It seems to me that this varies a lot and could well depend on your local NHS waiting times, or your private clinic's lab.

I tend to see my consultant once a year for a review.  My bloods tend to be taken on the Thursday and are back in time for his clinic the following Tuesday - so we are talking five days.  These tests include Liver Enzymes, Full Blood Count, Ferritn and B12.  However, the one test which is sometimes held up is the specific celiac test  - the tTG-IgA test - which can come in maybe 10 days to 2 weeks later!  I've always been under the impression that it takes a little longer than routine blood tests to come back and for that reason I would never have it taken the night before.

So my feeling is allow at least 5 days before you hear, but it could be significantly longer.

I hope this helps.

Have you been waiting long?

Cristiana

Hi Cristiana

thank  you for your detailed reply. I had my blood taken in the hospital outpatients department 10 days ago now. I heard people say they received their result back after a few days only. Others a week. Thank you for answering!

You are more than welcome.  It could be that things are a bit slower at this time of year with the uptick in hospital staff off with various winter illnesses but you should get your result soon.  I would say it is worth chasing if you hear nothing after three weeks.  Do come back to us once you have the results if we can help any further.

I ought to add, if you think it is possible you will need an endoscopy afterwards do make sure you continue to include gluten in your diet.  The recommended amount is 2 slices of normal i.e. gluten containing bread or the equivalent until the test date.

Thank you so much. x

I love popcorn but it doesn't love me.  Right now my gut hurts and I am bloated and passing gas.  Am I just super sensitive. I thought popcorn was gluten free 🤔

Welcome to the forum, @marinke! "Type 1a diabetes (DM1) is associated with an increased risk of celiac disease (celiac disease) (1)." from: https://diabetesjournals.org/care/article/35/10/2083/38503/IgA-Anti-transglutaminase-Autoantibodies-at-Type-1 "The prevalence of celiac disease (celiac disease) in children with type 1 diabetes (T1D) is 5.1%, and it is often asymptomatic (1)." from: https://diabetesjournals.org/care/article/48/2/e13/157637/Diagnostic-Outcomes-of-Elevated-Transglutaminase So, this is 5x the rate found in the general population.

Hi James47, You are less than 2 years into your recovery from Celiacs.  Tell us more about the problems you are having. Do you just want to get rid of belly fat or are you still having symptoms like gas and bloating.    For symptoms you may need to change your diet and take various supplements that you cannot adsorb from the foods you eat because of the damage caused by the autoimmune reaction in your small intestine.

My daughter (4 years old) has type 1 diabetes since she was 1. Therefore, every year a screening is done. We live in the Netherlands. Every year the screening was fine. This year here ttg is positive, 14, >7 is positive. IGA was in range. Could the diabetes cause this positive result? Or the fact that she was sick the weeks before the brood test?

@DayaInTheSun what were the shortness of breath symptoms for you ? And did they come on all of a sudden or was it a gradual increase in said symptoms?
