Don’t understand lab results..Help please

Recent Labcorp lab results show these results.

Endomysial Antibody IgA:  Negative

t-Transglutaminase (tTG):  <2 

Range for tTG lab is :  negative= 0-3, weak positive =4-10 ,  Positive >10

Immunoglobulin A, Qn  Serum :  417.  H
lab range 87-352 mg/dl

What is this telling me? Any recommendations?

These two tests are celiac antibody tests and they both look to be negative:

Endomysial Antibody IgA:  Negative

t-Transglutaminase (tTG):  <2

We commonly refer to the t-Transglutaminase (tTG) as tTG-IGA.

 

This one is what we commonly call "total IGA" and is on the high side: 

Immunoglobulin A, Qn  Serum :  417.  H

Total IGA is not an antibody test for celiac disease per se but the reason it is run is that if it is on the low side (i.e., you are "IGA deficient") it can cause the individual IGA tests that are designed to check for celiac disease per se to be falsely negative. This is not a problem in your case. I do not know that there are any particular health concerns connected to having a higher than normal total IGA.

Based only on these IGA tests it does not appear that you have celiac disease but it is unfortunate that only IGA tests were ordered. I would have been helpful to also include the DGP-IGG test. Some people who truly do have celiac disease just have immune systems that don't throw positives for IGA celiac antibody tests.

But here is an important question. Had you already begun limiting gluten in your diet before the blood draw for the testing was done? If so, it rendered the testing invalid.

Approximately 10x more people have non-celiac gluten sensitivity than have celiac disease, but there isn’t yet a test for NCGS. If your symptoms go away on a gluten-free diet it would likely signal NCGS.

Thank you for your feedback.  I was not eating gluten free at time the lab was taken.  Have been gluten free now for a week. How long might it take for symptoms to go away. Only issue I have is loose stool.

If gluten is the problem or the only problem I should say, your stools should have normalized by now. But many in the gluten intolerant/gluten sensitive population are also dairy intolerant. Try eliminating dairy from your diet and see if the issues improve.

      Thank you.  Just wanted to see if there was anything out there. Not in need of any specific vitamins or mineral. Trying to cover all my bases. 🙂.    By the way, what is your picture from or what does it represent? Are you an Aquarius?

      They've not made that call at this point. They say it looks more like Celiac's than common variable immune deficiency.  They say to get a positive diagnosis another endoscopy is needed after I've been on gluten-free diet awhile.  So, waiting for more input from Docs'.

      Hi All! I recieved some coeliac serology test results but I am yet to see my g.p can anyone please confirm what these numbers mean?? Tissue transglutaminase IgA - 3 units (<20) Deamidated Gliadin Peptide IgG - 26H units (<20)   My IgG is high, does this mean it is positive?

      Karen, welcome to the forum. Another thing to add:  Belly bloat can persist if you are lactose intolerant, a situation caused by coeliac disease or it can simply be a stand alone condition.  In the case of coeliac disease, it could be your damaged gut cannot break down lactose efficiently but, in time, once the gut heals, your lactose intolerance and bloating should improve.  You might also find it helpful to stay clear of certain high fibre foods for a while, perhaps keeping a food diary to see if any are causing you to bloat a lot or give you stomach pain.  Lentils and soya were an issue for me in the short term, while I was recovering.  Also, are you taking iron - that can really hurt your belly and in my case it added to the bloating. The other point I wanted to make is has your doctor looked into any other reasons for your belly bloat.? There are a number of other gastric conditions that can result in a bloated belly.  A blood test and an ultrasound to check for possible gynaecological issues could also be something to speak to your GP about. It took me a few months for my bloating to subside, but the journey which involved a few tests along the way to ensure nothing else was was worth it.   Cristiana
