Do I have Celiac’s Disease?

Cosyfeyre Newbie

Hey I’m new here and these are my test results for the first time I ever got them done. I have Hypothyroidism and Hashimotos too.

Immunoglobulin IgA is 299 normal

Anti Gliadin Ab, IgA is a 4 normal

Anti Gliadin Ab, IgG is a 2 normal

Tissue Transglutaminase IgA is a <2 normal

Tissue Transglutaminase IgG is a 7 weak positive

I’m waiting for my Doctor to get back to me about what to do now. I know gluten makes me sick plus a bunch of other symptoms too.

Hi Cosyfeyre and welcome to the forum.

Hashimoto's thyroiditis can cause moderately raised levels of tissue transglutaminase antibodies (as can other autoimmune and inflammatory conditions). This could explain the weak positive shown for tTG IgG. It is certainly worth following up. Some people can react to gluten without having coeliac disease, and many people react to the fructans present in grains like wheat.

Welcome! It’s great that you’re getting answers through testing, even if it feels overwhelming right now. Your results show mostly normal ranges, but the weak positive in TTG IgG could suggest gluten sensitivity or early celiac—especially since you already react to gluten. Hashimoto’s and celiac/gluten issues often overlap, so it’s smart to investigate further. Hopefully your doctor will clarify next steps (maybe an endoscopy or gluten-free trial?). Either way, listening to your body is key. Hang in there, and keep advocating for yourself—you’re already on the right track!

The next step is likely an endoscopy to confirm celiac disease, and for that, similar to the blood panel for celiac disease, you need to be eating lots daily in the weeks leading up to it.

Let us know what your doc says.

@Bernade, you might find this helpful. Ultimately, it would be up to the parents of the students in question to begin dialog with school officials and get the ball rolling. But perhaps you could could pass this information onto the parents somehow:

I have celiac disease and work in public school kitchen it is not gluten free but I must be careful there are several students that have issues but haven’t heard anything about it it is not taken seriously in my opinion and it is I would love to find other resources that can be available for us but I also don’t know what to do or where….

What kind of issues have you had going to public schools? Are you gluten-free as well?

It might be worth a try to see if that is causing you issues. I've not tried it, but don't have the same issues with fruits and vegetables.

Thank you. i actually get my cheeses generally from Costco:  Brie, and Manchego. but I recall getting reactions from buying Supermarket shredded Mexican mix cheese, and now I know why. Thank you.
