My husband and I are heading to San Antonio, TX in June. Does anyone know of any "celiac-friendly" restaurants in the area? We'd love to visit local places - not the usual Wendy's and Outbacks! Thanks for your help!

Yes! I was there for business a couple of months ago. Try Biga on the Banks on the river walk (Open Original Shared Link). It's a little pricey, but they were extremely accomodating and the food was great.

I was there a couple of weeks ago and ate at P F Changs at the Quary (sp?). It was really good!!!!

Aldaco's is great. The local Celiac group has meetings there - Mexican cuisine. I also recommend the Triumph Dining Cards and Triumph Dining book. It has listings for all over the country with menus of safe items from chains like PF changs and Outback. triumphcdning.com - i think

Do you have officially diagnosed celiac disease? Or are you not a celiac but gluten sensitive?
    • Gluten Free Jeff
In general I guess. I wasn't gluten free until I graduated highschool.

Welcome to the forum, @Gluten Free Jeff! Are you asking this for yourself or for someone else say, as their parent?

How long ago were you diagnosed?  Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. I had a half dozen or more temporary intolerances until my gut finally healed, and after than I was able to add back most foods (except gluten of course).
