Hi there,

I was wondering about something. I will do the provoked urine test soon for heavy metals. I'm so thankful I found a doctor!! First of all, I have a lack of trust for natural/alternative doctors right now because I've been around the block and am sicker than ever and broke. So now I found this ND who will do the test for me (it is where I'm getting the Myers) and I discussed what she'd do "if" I have mercury. They offer blood chelation and oral etc. I told her I'm too sick to do chelation and she said there are many ways of going about it, possibly supporting nutritionally and herbally. What do I ask her to find out if she is a good person to help me?

Also, I am really starting to question if it is candida all of this time. My other ND told me it is highly overdiagnosed and people focus on that too much, but I've never tried the candida diet, at least cutting out sugar. I am too overwhelmed really and don't feel like I can do it 100%. I don't eat gluten, any grains, or dairy right now. Right now I'm taking custom probiotics 400 billion cfu's!! And I started olive leaf extract and that's it. But I'm wondering if I have heavy metals won't I be going around and around with candida? Should I even bother addressing candida now?

Sorry so many questions. Know this is a good place for them :)

I don't have a lot of answers but I can tell you that checking my absorption and levels I had Doctor's Data heavy metals, essential elements and amino acids. I had Spectrcell check lymphocyte levels of vitamins, minerals. I had a blood test for Vitamin D as well. The doctor is also checking stool for absorption, fat was checked through Enterolab, He is checking for protein, sugar and some other absorptions also in stool through Rosmed. Still waiting for those results.

I have been taking charcoal a long time. I think if you are careful to take it away from food and other nutrients, why would it be a problem?

Yes, Julie, my dose is still 3 capsules at bedtime. I'll have a final ART retest of everything next week. My LLMD wants to add more stuff! My daily pills are going to fill up a snack size ziplock the way I am going here!

Lorig,

I think focusing on candida will help you feel better for the short term. The reason the candida is there is most likely due to the other underlying conditions you have. I don't think the primary focus should be on the candida. Although the probiotics and antifungals will help keep it under control until you can get the treatment you need for the metals. I wouldn't overdo the sugar because IMO high candida levels can impair the detoxification process by clogging up the lymph system and putting a huge burden on the liver due to the mycotoxins.

So, I think you are right NOT to totally focus on it, but rather put your money towards the underlying conditions. But do try to keep the candida as minimal as you possibly can.

About that doc, how do you feel intuitively about him/her? Sounds like she has a good approach. Sometimes, our intuition can tell us a lot about a person. Is she willing to go slow with you? Oh, and don't you still have fillings? I don't think you should do much chelating with fillings in. About the only thing you can do is take chlorella and give the body support.

the bioset woman randomly suggested i should see a pediatrician to get a bunch of basic things tested, does anybody think that's a good idea? the bioset woman seemed knowledgeable, and pediatricians deal with younger people and teens so i'm sure they're thorough

as i said, for some reason my thyroid is high, which is mostly likely because of something, but i had the free t3 and free t4 tested and they came back fine...but i never had antibodies...will antibodies basically explain that my bodies attacking the thyroid because of it being so weakened from sickness?

anyways, i want to have all my levels tested...minerals, vitamins, all the essential things.... what should i ask for? i want to make sure they're all checked and i get copies...i could probably get a provoked urine test out of it too, and some other basic things...anybody have any ideas of what i should get checked? just the basic things, lyme will be harder to find out obviously, but yeah...maybe he could order enterolab, i'm curious about the malabsorption

the whole reason i went to bioset was to get an outlook of my body, because it's a confusing puzzle, but i'm wondering what things i should get seen to help her out too

rpm,

I would get as much testing through your MD as you can, but remember that a lot of times the testing they order can be inaccurate or not reallly a good measure of what's going on. For instance, when they test the blood for mercury and lead. This will only show up if you have had a fairly recent exposure. If the blood test comes back clean, this will NOT mean you don't have metals.

But the MD would be a good place to start for generalized testing. NOt sure if it will tell you much but it might help rule some things out.

What did the bioset lady say? Did she do testing?

Nyxie63 Apprentice

And on that note, if they do blood testing for metals, the best test would be an RBC elements blood test. This is where they take a look at what's in your red blood cells themselves, not what's circulating in the serum. This will give a better idea of what's actually in the tissues.

April, Thank you for your insight. I think I am going to go with what you say. I will try to clean out the sugar, get the urine test and go from there. Yes I do have 2 fillings, 1 root canal. Ugh!

I just got a root canal pulled last September which had a big cavitation under it. My new dentist is mercury free and he had a panoramic xray done. I also had ART testing tell me before that (the same day, before that appointment) that it was a bad cavitation and that my wisdom tooth areas were also cavitations but not as bad.

My dentist prefers to get the mercury out of the mouth before dealing with cavitations. Which reminds me, I forgot to budget longterm for the cavitations to be taken care of. <_<

I would get the tests she suggests, she most likely has some things in mind she wants tested in order to get a more thorough picture about what is going on in your body, and those test results might be helpful and taken into consideration when devising a protocol.

Lori, I don't have any specific answers for you.

I just wanted to say I understand how you feel and what you are going through. I had some terrible experiences with a couple of healthcare professionals that I went to, so much so that I was left emotionaly, physically, and financially drained from what I had been through....I had to walk away and take a break from it all for about 5 years. I just recently in the last few months have gone back to someone.

I think April gave some great suggestions, you have to get to a place where you can trust the process and have faith in who you are putting your health in the hands of, so going with intuition/gut feeling about the person you are seeing is important.

Unfortunately there are no guarantees, like with anything, but I truly believe that every experience can be a learning experience and something can be gained even if the outcome isn't what you expected. As you learn more and become your own health advocate you will find little clues that lead you to the next thing, and to the next thing from there, and so on, like most all of us on this thread have.

Just hang in there, you are probably stronger than you think :)

Paula, charcoal is suppose to be constipating but it totally has the opposite effect on me too. I don't have d though, just lots of bm's, which for me is just unheard of  since I typically have chronic "c".

I've only been taking it now for a couple of months I would say.

Thanks Sherry, you hadn't mentioned about the charcoal in a while so I didn't know if it was a short term dose for you or not.

My only concern is for someone with a very long transit time, as well as sluggish/deficient digestive processes, if the charcoal would absorb all the needed nutrients even outside of the 2 hr window?

Forgot to mention I was watching The View yesterday and they had a segment on environmental toxins and the increase of chronic disease and the importance of detoxing.

The expert they had on discussed RO water, skin brushing, epsom salt baths, organic food, green cleaning products, and herbs to support the major detox organs (liver, kidneys, bowels).....all the stuff we have talked about here

Andrea, that will be a lot to budget in on your dental work :( but totally worth it in the long run.

My mom got all hers done a little at a time, one quadrant ata time, her mouth was FULL of amalgams.

Nyxie, how are you feeling?

Has anyone heard from Rachel? Hope she is doing ok.

Julie, thanks for asking. :)

I'm doing ok. Was exhausted yesterday and am still kinda tired today. The hida scan wasn't fun. Boring, yes. But they gave me this godawful "ice cream" stuff to eat. Don't think there was a single natural ingredient in it. Bleah! Got nauseous and the abdominal pain got worse, so I'm guessing that's a "good" sign? Dunno what to think about it really. Get the results probably on Monday since the GI's office is closed today and all weekend.

Started the plalanquil and nystatin last night. Still waiting for the rx for the doxy to show up in the mail. L called and she wrote down the wrong one. On the bright side, that means I have an extra script for doxy if I need it.

Starting the Cowden this morning. Btw, has anyone had funky dreams from palanquil or nystatin? Had 3 very vivid and kinda bad dreams last night. One was really bad. Didn't see anything about dreams showing up on any of the rx info.

covsooze Enthusiast

Hi Nyxie :)

Don't know about the palanquil, but the nystatin could cause vivid dreams as a result of candida die-off. I've been taking flucanazole, and I get vivd dreams the night I've taken it, along with other die-off symptoms. I think this would be the same with getting rid of any toxins. Plenty of epsom salt baths, lemon water etc happening here :)

Hi everyone! Kassandra and I have been busy, can you tell? :P

Yesterday I had my phone consult. I was taken off minocycline, so I am no longer on Lyme meds! I am taking Full-Cowden for the remaining Lyme and babesia prescription meds for babesia (and some herbs).

I no longer have lyme symptoms at all unless I overdo it. Yesterday I started having some muscle aches and joint pain, so I used some glutathione cream and relaxed a while, they went away as quickly as they came.

I will have to have phone consultations and blood work done every other month.

In one month, I'm supposed to try stopping the Malarone. As soon as any babesia symptoms return, I'm supposed to call back in and they call in a rx for two per day instead of one (unless it's gone, then I won't need an rx).

Chloe is doing well on Cowden and will have blood work and phone consults every other month as well. She is considered to be in remission, though we're going to continue Cowden to help prevent relapse. About once per month she has pain on the bottom of her foot, so if that increases, we'll have to address the bartonella, but it looks like her own immune system may be strong enough to take care of it.

So, we're seeing progress around here!

We're having a calm before the storm .... we're supposed to get 10-14 inches of snow with zero visibility!!! Kassandra's flight has already been changed to a half hour earlier and to go south instead of staying in the north .... will that be early enough???? I guess we'll see. Once the heavy snow starts, no one is going anywhere.

Like Susie said, could be die off, of either candida or Lyme. I've had vivid, scary dreams with Lyme. It's not uncommon.

I hope you get the doxy soon. It's better this way though ..... it's better to start one at a time so you know where you're getting the reaction ... like knowing which is causing the dreams would be nice, LOL.

Nyxie63 Apprentice

Susie and Carla,

Thanks! Hate it when I have really vivid dreams at night then feel disoriented for the first few hours after waking up. It's like I didn't come all the way back.

Will just take the nystatin today and see if that's it. Hopefully the script for doxy comes in today so I can start that tomorrow.

Carla,

Wow! What great progress! Fabulous news! :D

Eep about the snow storm! You're keeping that on your side of the border, right? ;)

Nyxie, I have no idea if it's our snow storm or if it will make it over there. :D I'm excited ..... I love being snowed in for a couple days .... but I need to hit the grocery with the rest of the city!

About stopping the Plaquenil ..... does it matter which is causing it? Would you stop taking one or the other? At this point one day into it, it won't matter if you stop it for a couple days .....

It doesn't matter, I guess. I won't permanently stop taking either med. Just want to satisfy my own curiosity. It'd be nice to know what causes what.

And we're supposed to be getting your snow as rain here. Just checked the weather forecast. Like the area doesn't have enough flooding right now. Oh well. Still, would rather have rain than snow, as pretty as snow is.

Thanks. :)

I haven't been on a lot lately because we've been busy. But the Mepron is starting to hit me. I know what will happen...I'll feel terrible starting tomorrow, LOL!

I have an appt. with Dr H on Sunday! Yay! Let's hope I can make it back home in time for the appt. without too many snow problems. ;)

I love snow too, just not driving in it. Hubby doesn't get paid if he's not driving so we always hope we don't have to deal with it.

Hope Kassandra gets out of there safely. I'll be looking for your update on Sunday Kassandra.

I also love a good snow in for a couple of days every once in a while, I'm jealous :P We haven't had one all winter, but I should be careful what I wish for, we might get one of our famous spring blizzards

Glad you and Kass had a great time, safe travels to you Kass. I hope you don't run into any weather related problems with your flight.

That's too funny Paula, I am the same way with medicines and things, always the opposite happens, certainly never the typical

I don't take anything for regularity, I've just become naturally regular in the last couple of years.

I looked up at The View website for the info they shared on the show and they didn't have it, only a summary of the book of the expert they had on discussing all of these things.

Scroll down to Wed Mar 5: Open Original Shared Link (about 3 paragraphs into this day's recap they have several paragraphs of info)

And then this is the link to the book:

Open Original Shared Link

It gives the basic idea about what they talked about in the segment, just not the specifics.

I guess we have to buy the book

So, you have three symptoms of a gluten-related disorder: weight loss, brain fog and lose stools. Of the three, the lose stools that firm up when you cut back on gluten is the only symptom for which you have reasonable cause to assume is connected to gluten consumption since the other two persist when you cut back on gluten. But since you do not have any formal test results that prove celiac disease, you could just as easily have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). In fact, what testing you have had done indicates you do not have celiac disease. NCGS shares many of the same symptoms of celiac disease but does not damage the lining of the small bowel as does celiac disease. There is no test for it. A diagnosis for NCGS depends on first ruling out celiac disease. It is 10x more common than celiac disease. Some experts feel it can be a precursor to the development of celiac disease. Eliminating gluten is the antidote for both. What muddies this whole question are two things: 1. Lack of official diagnostic data that indicates celiac disease. 2. Your persistence in consuming gluten, even though in smaller amounts. Your anxiety over the insomnia seems to outweigh your anxiety over the weight loss which prevents you from truly testing out the gluten free diet. What other medical testing have you had done recently? I think something else is going on besides a gluten disorder. Have you had a recent CBC (Complete Blood Count) and a recent CMP (Complete Metabolic Panel)? You say you don't believe you have any vitamin and mineral deficiencies but have you actually been tested for any. I certainly would be concerned with that if I was losing weight like you are despite consuming the high amount of calories you are.

Hi,  Apologies, I'm self diagnosed with celiac disease. I have had several blood tests done throughout the years for celiac, thyroid, crp etc (while being on a gluten diet throughout) and they all came back negative. I was scheduled for an endoscopy, however I have a huge phobia of it, so I declined. I mainly self diagnosed, due to while being on a strict gluten free diet on and off throughout the years, many symptoms greatly improve I.e my skin, brain fog, more alert and feel better.
