Yup....and for desert last night I melted strawberry sorbet. :P

I miss my melted ice cream! :(

Yeah, but with this other stuff, you don't need to go to the trouble! It's like already melted ice cream! I tasted it and said it tasted like melted ice cream, then one of my kids said, yeah that's what I said! I then said, I've GOT to tell Rachel about this stuff!

Then I was thinking, she's Mexican, she might already know about it!

LOL...yeah but Carla....I'm a really "white" mexican! :P

When the customers at work start talking to me in spanish I just look at them like this

I actually do know what horchata is...but I've never had it! I'm sure I would totally LOVE it....even better than my melted ice cream.

I'm gonna put it on my "to try" list for when I'm tolerating more things. Who knows it might be soon with my enzymes! :D

CarlaB Enthusiast

I was pretty sure I already knew you didn't speak Spanish! LOL But I thought that maybe some of your older relatives might have had some more traditional foods. :D I hope you can try it soon. If I can find some in Ohio, I'm sure you can find some there!

That's really hysterical about the customers expecting you to speak Spanish!

You would love this stuff ... I KNOW you would. It tastes like melted ice cream! I had had it before, but it was at a Mexican "wanna-be" restaurant. This place we're going to now is authentic!

Nope...its my dad thats mexican. My family is huge on that side but I dont see them since I was a kid.

My ex is mexican (well a few of my exes are) so I've eaten plenty of traditional stuff...just not horchata. :(

My enzymes seem to be working a miracle so I'm hopeful that it wont be long. :)

Rpm999 Contributor
The one I'm currently taking is specifically for breaking down phenols but the enzyme (which is used in high amounts) also happens to fight candida....causing die off. An enzyme high in proteases can help to digest the dying yeast...limiting the die-off reactions.

would you happen to know an enzyme high in proteases? i feel like if i have to get rid of candida, i can't take a bad die-off, i can barely walk around and these neuro symptoms are too much, i wouldn't want to end up in the hospital

i was looking too and i saw this "Dr Rosemary Waring found that most people with autism conditions have a deficiency in a key detoxification pathway."

detox issues came up, do you think having problems with that can cause a lot of neuro/mental problems? because it sounds like that would make sense, and i feel like those issues are much worst than the rest...and a few pages back, you posted the smallest sulfur thing can cause nerve/brain problems, and that could be a reason why i'm not detoxing right, right?

glad to hear about everything going well with you though! i didn't even think recently that when your immune gets so burdened, basic body functions break down and it could be such simple things to help on

I've had horchata...I didn't like it. But then again, I don't really like melted ice cream, so...

That sounds so fun! My dad is an only child and my uncle is not married .... so I have NO cousins!!!! Not nearly as fun as a large family! That's why I had to have so many kids, LOL!

LOL, Kassandra! I've had is somewhere else and it wasn't as good as this kind, so I think there's a wide variety of tastes to it, but I don't think there's any getting around the melted ice cream taste! I liked it, but a small glass would be all I could handle.

Ok this is totally off topic but i trust what you guys have to say and i had to get this out and didnt want to post this on the main forum anywhere.

Tommorow we go to court against my stepsons mom. She is going to be sentenced to 6 months in jail for not paying child support. I can give her a get out of jail free card and ask her to sign him over to me. I have wanted this for a very long time. But now i sit here and feel sorry for her, the only thing she really has her son, even tho she has not seen him 2 years. He talked to her last night and she said some things i dotn even want to repeat here, just in case anyone sees this that knows me or her lol. I just dont know what to do. If anyone wants more to the story you can PM me.

CarlaB Enthusiast

If she's saying abusive things to your/her son, then send her to jail. If she's a good mother aside from the money issues, let her see him.

Mercy is not a bad thing ... unless it harms the welfare of the child. Protecting a child from a bad parent is not bad either.

This is a complicated issue .... there are questions like, why hasn't she paid? Why hasn't she seen him?

Can you have her wages garnished instead? I know (because my husband is a business owner) that this is done.

Good luck, this is a difficult decision.

If you want, you can PM me more info and I can give you a more solid opinion. :)

confusedks Enthusiast

Can you ask her to sign him over to you and still have her go to jail? Or can you only do one or the other?

confused Community Regular

Thanks carla, i think you are right and i even just talked to ss counselor and she agrees. She did the crime now its time she does her time. Now to see if its best for him to see her in jail or not which they will talk about in counseling tonight.

Yep kassandra, its just one or the other. But we are going to let her go to jail.

I dont need a piece of paper saying that he is mine, cause i know he is mine in every way that counts.

paula

Paula, based on what you PM'd me, you made the right decision. She deserves jail.

If she doesn't see him now, why should she see him when she's in jail?

At 14 I'm sure he knows whether he wants to see her. If he wants to, he probably should ... but if he doesn't, then he shouldn't be forced to. I mean, does he even KNOW her?

That is what hubby said she should not be able to see him, but i told him it has to be his choice, he is old enough to decide. The only bad thing is at his age an adult/parent has to go with him and hubby works during those visiting hours, so that means i have to be there with the 4 other kids which is not good for the other kids.

That is why i want the counselor to talk to him and see what he wants, cause if we ask him, he will say no, but maybe deep in his heart or mind he wants to. At least he does not have to be afraid she will kidnap him (which she has done)

I think i have spent more time in a month with him, then she has in the last 12 years. So no he hardly knows her, tg for that.

Nyxie63 Apprentice

Back from Pincushion Monday. But wait! There's more!

In addition to what I've already been tested for, I reacted to: almonds, coffee, garlic, green peas, tomatoes, green peppers, celery, sesame, garbanzo beans (chick peas), mushrooms, cabbage, strawberries, and spinach.

Fortunately, my reactions to these weren't too bad. They're considered moderate.

So I have an appt with the Holistic MD next week to go over my allergy testing and to set up a diet plan that takes all this into account, as well as the candida diet.

I've decided to hold off freaking out until then.

Nyxie63 Apprentice

Andrea,

Glad you're doing better! :)

Isn't melted ice cream a milk shake? :D

Im in the process of looking into get an Ro water system for the whole house. But they are so expenisive, does anyone know a place were they are more affordable then 3,000 and up. Or do i need an whole house filter, or would i be ok with an filter in the kitchen and in the bathoom shower.

paula

CarlaB Enthusiast

Paula, RO for the whole house is excessive. You are only going to drink some of the water, so you don't need it all purified to that level.

We have a whole house purifier and and RO for the kitchen. We also have a water softener. There is a separate faucet in the kitchen for the RO .... the RO is also attached to the ice maker and the water in the refrigerator.

I really don't remember what it cost. I know the softener was expensive, but I don't think the whole house filter and the RO was as much as you are talking about.

CarlaB Enthusiast

Nyxie, sorry about the allergies. Are you having all this sent to L. and Dr. H? I'm just curious what they think of it all.

I've usually made a milk shake with ice cream and milk, not by melting ice cream. ;)

It sounds like you're making the right decision Paula. :) It sounds like a tough one to make. We have had some custody issues and child support stuff and it has been hard for my mom to make decisions about how to pursue these kinds of things.

OMG! You react to EVERYTHING! I can't wait to hear what your holistic MD has to say! LOL! I would LOVE to hear what s/he says for you to eat! Let us know, okay?

Well I am very discouraged :(

My outbreak kept going and going, it turned from hives into full blown angioedema, and it was as severe as they have always been.

I am obviously not able to detox and I can't get on with treatment until I am able to detox :(

CarlaB Enthusiast

I'm sorry Julie .... what about trying cholestyramine? It is often used to bind toxins in those with trouble detoxing.

confused Community Regular

I am so sorry julie, hopefully the nd will be able to come up with something to help you detox.

Hi Trents  Many thanks for the response. My average intake ranges from 3000 - 4000 calories per day. In regards to carbohydrates, the majority of my calories are coming from white rice. I eat around 2000+ calories of white rice per day, so definitely not low in carbohydrates. I was thinking of adding sweet potatoes to the diet. Yes, fats are low, looking into it. I've seen people complain about the same issue in 3-4 threads, but there hasn't been any solution. I was thinking of eating the same diet as stated above and each day, eat small pieces of toast to see, by how many hours my sleep improves.  What makes you think gluten widrawal would subside? Is this insomnia happening because maybe I've been a asymptomatic then symptomatic celiac all my life and the body is "shocked"? There seem to be almost no information on gluten widrawal and insomnia anywhere.

Welcome to the forum, @SaiP! Have you been officially diagnosed with celiac disease or are you self-diagnosed? What is your average calorie intake per day? Your diet seems to be low in carbohydrates. The only carbohydrate rich food in your list is the white rice. A snack high in simple carbohydrates before retiring for bed at night may help with sleep. Can you do potatoes? Also, tryptophan is reported to help with sleep. Turkey meat is a rich source of tryptophan.  Also, your diet would seem to be low in fats and oils. Apart from the avocado, there is not much in your diet to supply this vital category of nutrient.  Your theory about the connection between gluten withdrawal and insomnia seems reasonable. Especially since you have experimented with it. Gluten withdrawal should subside in a few weeks I would think.

@sillyyak52 Welcome to the forum! I'm just about to go away for a couple of days but read this and just had to reply.  I am so sorry for what you are going through... it is really tough. Perhaps finding a short video online which explains the seriousness of celiac disease might help.  Just sit your family down and say, "Please just watch this one video with me."    There is one, here for example, on Coeliac UK, which I think is convincing - What is Coeliac Disease? https://www.coeliac.org.uk/healthcare-professionals/resources/videos-for-newly-diagnosed-patients/?&&type=r&set=true#cookie-widget I was watching a TV comedy programme we have in the UK over Christmas called Doc Martin.  If you get this programme where you live, there is a case on the final ever episode (Christmas 2022).  The seriousness of celiac disease is explained in that episode,. Perhaps watching something rather than reading would help?  But if you are after something short to read, I am not sure what country you live in but you might be able to find a coeliac charity that produces pamphlets, or perhaps your GP could let you have something?  Perhaps even better, would you be able to attend the GP surgery with your mother and get your GP to explain the seriousness of not complying with the diet? Cristiana

I was diagnosed with celiac disease just over a year ago. I never had any gastrointestinal symptoms before I started eating gluten free, and the diagnosis did come somewhat as a shock. The symptoms that led to my diagnosis were fatigue, and an ongoing Iron and Vitamin D deficiency that worsened even when taking supplements. I visited my GP with these symptoms, which consequently led to a positive celiac blood test and eventually a positive biopsy. Since starting the gluten free diet, I no longer have any deficiencies or unexplained fatigue. When I am glutened now, I experience bloating, severe constipation (that often affects my sleep!) and an onset of fatigue.  My family does not believe that I actually have celiac disease, and thinks that all these symptoms are a 'placebo' effect of being told the 'wrong' diagnosis. Ever since my diagnosis, they have constantly been telling me that I should seek a second opinion. I really don't see the point of getting a second opinion. I trust that the blood test and biopsy were accurate, and the improvement in my blood tests, fatigue and the symptoms I experience now when I now accidentally consume gluten are enough for me. On top of that, if I were to seek a second opinion now, I believe I would need to do a gluten challenge to get an accurate diagnosis, which I am definitely not willing to do just to please my family.  Because they don't believe in my diagnosis, they think that I take the diet 'too seriously'. They are always comparing my celiac disease to my siblings' mild peanut allergy, and it is so exhausting trying to explain it when they just look at me like I am crazy. For example, since my siblings can eat products with 'may contain peanuts' with no issues, they tell me I am ridiculous for avoiding 'may contain gluten' products when possible.  I am also very careful about cross-contact in restaurants, which they will make similar comments about. I have been told are that "I need to stop being so fussy because I live in the real world". Recently, when I did not want to buy my birthday cake from a local bakery that confirmed their gluten free items are not coeliac-safe, my family told me "Well, who cares? They said it's gluten free. What more could you want? Do you need to take them to court to prove it's gluten free so you'll eat it?" It is truly so upsetting that after a year they have made no effort to understand celiac disease, and why I am so strict or 'fussy'. I have thought about giving them information to read, but my mom never ever reads anything. Not even her own emails, and will often make me read things and summarise them for her. She is honestly the one who is most difficult and very obviously still sees my celiac disease as something that I choose to believe.  How do you deal with people close to you who just refuse to understand? Are there any resources anyone could recommend for families that are short and easy to read?

Hi guys,  I have been reading this forum for quite a while now, so I decided to create an account and post my story.  I've had celiac disease since September 2015 and yet over the years i have still eaten gluten and gradually went from 65kg to 43kg in a 9 year period. I am severely underweight and  and decided to go gluten free. Age - 34, Male  Weight - 94lb - 43 kg (look like a skeleton, ribs showing etc) Height - 170cm Main symptoms - Severe weight loss + severe brain fog Allergies - (all life threatening) - eggs, nuts, peas, lentils, sweetcorn and many antibiotics. I am on a 100% strict gluten free diet (all made at home) i.e. I only eat:  cooked chicken thighs (with salt+pepper) White rice Bananas, apples, avacados  Brocolli, spinach, beetroot Tuna Water After trying this diet for a week I suddenly developed severe insomnia and can barely get 1-2 hours of sleep, however when I start eating gluten again, my sleep is perfect. I have seen other threads on this forum from people experiencing the same thing, and other people recommending e.g. B12, magnesium etc. However, I highly doubt this insomnia is caused by a lack of vitamins+minerals. I am thinking this insomnia is caused by some kind of gluten widrawal. I am now eating small amounts of gluten daily to see whether the insomnia will improve and gradually reduce the amount of gluten, so my body gets used to the sudden change and the insomnia will stop I am fairly confident this approach will work,  but unsure. The main issue is, I am dangerously underweight now, but sleep is much more important, so I am in a conflicted situation. Your thoughts? Thanks!
