Nyxie, sorry about the allergies. Are you having all this sent to L. and Dr. H? I'm just curious what they think of it all.

I haven't talked to the holistic MD yet, so I dont' know if they've contacted her about doing the partnership thing with my treatment. Think it would be a good idea to fax my results to L?

OMG! You react to EVERYTHING! I can't wait to hear what your holistic MD has to say! LOL! I would LOVE to hear what s/he says for you to eat! Let us know, okay?

They've given me a diet, which excludes the foods I have high reactions to and rotates the foods I have moderate reactions to. It doesn't take the candida diet into account at all, so I'd have to do quite a bit of tweaking.

On the bright side, they also tested carrots, onions, lettuce, lemons, blueberries, and cucumbers and I don't react to those at all.

Will definitely post what the holistic MD says. This is going to be interesting.

Well I am very discouraged :(

My outbreak kept going and going, it turned from hives into full blown angioedema, and it was as severe as they have always been.

I am obviously not able to detox and I can't get on with treatment until I am able to detox :(

I'm sorry, Julie. Hope you find something that works, and soon.

Oh yeah! Met the cutest couple at allergy testing. We had the same time slot for all 4 weeks, so we did a lot of talking. What else are you going to do while waiting for more needles? I'm pretty sure he's got DH (has a rash all over) and and he tests at the top of the scale for gluten.

They just found this site yesterday. Yay! Nice peoples. :)

Nyxie, yeah, I'd fax the results to L. I think it's important for them to know all that's going on.

At least you'll be able to rotate those foods! There are some foods I rotate, too, not many though.

Im in the process of looking into get an Ro water system for the whole house. But they are so expenisive, does anyone know a place were they are more affordable then 3,000 and up. Or do i need an whole house filter, or would i be ok with an filter in the kitchen and in the bathoom shower.

paula

The guy we bought our kitchen water filter system from does sell a whole house filter for a reasonable price. I can pm you the site if you want to check his products out. He has excellent customer service as well. :)

Nyxie,

I'm sorry about all you're reacting too. I still think it's the lyme that's causing your food problems.

You're right. Will get those results out to her tonight.

I'm not sure if I'll ever get a conclusive answer as to whether it's leaky gut or lyme. Not really sure it matters. Either way, I'll be on a restricted diet for quite a while and (hopefully) it'll be resolved at some point.

Ok, here's the run down via testing:

The foods I'm highly allergic to: beef, pork, tuna, corn, and wheat. These have to be eliminated completely. I've already eliminated the corn and wheat.

The foods I'm moderately allergic to and can rotate: almonds, chicken, coffee, eggs, garlic, gluten(?), green peas, milk, rice, soy, sugar, tomato, green pepper, celery, sesame, garbanzo, mushrooms, cabbage, strawberries, and spinach.

Out of idle curiosity, does anybody notice any trends among these foods? Oxalates or whatever???

I'm curious but don't know enough about any of this to know. Will be starting my homework tonight.

Aww Julie. :(

I was hoping that wasnt why you havent been posting much. Those damn outbreaks!!

I hope you feel better soon. We miss you!

When you feel up to it read some of my latest scientificness about PST and the sulfation pathway. I thought about you when I was researching this stuff. If you dont wanna go back and you're intertested just let me know...I'll repost it for you. :)

Rachel--24 Collaborator
would you happen to know an enzyme high in proteases?

Right now I'm only taking No Fenol but I already ordered AFP Peptizyde (high in proteases) and Zyme Prime.

I'll take all 3 of them if they end up testing well for me in ART next monday.

i was looking too and i saw this "Dr Rosemary Waring found that most people with autism conditions have a deficiency in a key detoxification pathway."

Its the PST (phenol sulfur-transferase) that is found to be deficient in the majority of autistic kids. Its thought to be caused by a shortage of useable sulfates in the body.

The PST sulfation pathway is necessary for the breakdown and removal of certain toxins in the body. This includes the processing of a type of chemical called a phenol. Phenols are a regular and necessary part of life. All foods contain some phenolic compounds. However, some foods have a much higher content than others do.

If the sulfation pathway is not functioning well, a person may not be able to process out the phenolic compounds as fast as they consume them. There is a cumulative effect. When the phenols start backing up in the system, it can cause a myriad of negative reactions. Symptoms of phenol intolerance include night waking, night sweats, irritability, eczema, and other skin conditions. The symptoms of phenol intolerance and yeast may be very similar because they both involve the body trying to deal with toxins.

This detoxification pathway processes other phenolic compounds including salicylates (salicylates are a subset of phenols), artificial food colorings, artificial flavorings, and some preservatives. Besides requiring PST, research has found the salicylates further suppress the activity of any PST enzyme present, making matters worse. Food dyes also have been shown to inhibit the PST enzyme.

detox issues came up, do you think having problems with that can cause a lot of neuro/mental problems? because it sounds like that would make sense, and i feel like those issues are much worst than the rest...and a few pages back, you posted the smallest sulfur thing can cause nerve/brain problems, and that could be a reason why i'm not detoxing right, right?

Anyone who has impaired detoxification (for whatever reason) is going to have some neuro/brain symptoms. Its because the body cant process out the toxins and they accumulate...causing these types of symptoms.

Yep she is going to jail, judge was so pissed, i was trying not to laugh cause i didnt want contempt of court on me, but it is so hard for me to keep my mouth shut lol She was giving the judge so many excuses on the phone and the judge was not buying any of them. She even asked her for documents stating that she is being treated for depression. Once she turnes herself in we will go back to court in april and she will be sentenced then. Sad thing is i have to look over my shoulder now not knowing when she will come down here to turn herself in.

Hey julie do you want to go track her down for me lol.

Heres more info about what can go wrong when sulfates are deficient in the body...especially with regards to the digestive system/intestinal lining.

The benefits of magnesium sulfate appear to be linked to an enzyme system known as phenol sulfotransferase (PST), which was shown to be functioning at sub-optimal levels in more than half of the autistic children tested by Dr. Rosemary Waring in England

Normally, PST is involved in a process called sulfoconjugation, whereby a group of potentially harmful chemicals known as phenols are attached to sulfate and thereby eliminated from the body. When there is a deficiency of sulfate in the bloodstream, as was shown to be the case in the majority of autistic individuals evaluated in another study, phenolic compounds may build up in the brain and nervous system, and this in turn can interfere with neurotransmitter function.

Sulfate deficiency and the resulting impairment of PST activity may explain why many children with autism are sensitive to a variety of phenol-containing foods, such as apples, grapes, chocolate, food colorings, and some herbs and spices.

Besides its adverse effects on neurotransmitter function, impaired sulfation can have a variety of other harmful consequences, including decreased production of peptides, bile acids, CCK, and possibly secretin.

Since all of these are involved in digestive function, there may be a resulting decrease in the absorption of certain nutrients from the intestinal tract. It is well known that maldigestion and malabsorption are significant problems in many children with autism.

Perhaps the most damaging consequence of impaired sulfation is on the health of the intestinal lining. Normally, the intestinal tract is coated with a layer of mucoproteins that contain important immune cells (specificially IgA) and provide protection for the integrity of the gut wall. Since these mucoproteins are actually sulfated glycoproteins, a deficit in the sulfation process can leave portions of the gut wall exposed, resulting in increased intestinal permeability (or

Obviously this wouldnt be the case for everyone...but since most (if not all) people with chronic lyme also have issues with mercury I'm wondering if the main reason Lyme is so difficult to control is because of dysfunctional pathways and other metabolic process due to heavy metals.

Everyone with chronic Lyme has difficulty with detoxification....otherwise they would not be sick. If detoxification werent an issue none of us would be suffering. If pathways are faulty it would explain why metals remain in the body or continue to build-up even after treatment.

It would also explain why so many people have relapses after discontinuing abx treatment for Lyme. If the Lyme problem exists because of impaired detoxification...it seems likely that it will return for the same reason.

Just recently while I was in the IV room (and actually awake and alert) a patient had come in for bloodtests because all of her Lyme symptoms returned after successfully treating more than a year ago. She had been symptom free for over a year but little by little all the symptoms returned and she was back for more treratment.

That seems to be the case for alot of those with chronic lyme. I talked to one guy who is being treated for Lyme. He said mercury is an issue but he cant tolerate any treatments to address it...so he isnt doing anything for it....his main treatment is for Lyme.

I think by not addressing the impaired detoxification so that the metals can be more effectively chelated....the lyme situation can go on forever. The immune system would never fully recover with the burden of metals and other toxins.

People who do not have impaired detoxification dont have chronic lyme and other chronic infections. I think detoxification would be one of the main reasons some people are living with Lyme in their bodies without ever getting sick...and some of us are debilitated by it.

As Rinne would say....Lyme probably wouldnt be such a menace without all of its buddies (esp. the metals) to back it up. B)

Where are you Rinne??

Obviously the world is more toxic now than it ever was before and we are exposed to more environmental mercury and other harmful toxins more than we ever were. I think its probable that the increase in Lyme, autism and all types of chronic illness are a direct result of the toxic burden and its effect on the immune system as well as the body's ability to detoxify itself.

Rachel--24 Collaborator

This is a possible explanation for why some of us do not improve or have a negative response to glutathione.

Glutathione itself can be used in detoxification, but that function appears to be dependant on the presence of sulfated glucosaminoglycans (GAG'S).

Glutathione is a key to detoxification and it requires sulfur.

Detoxification is dependant on the role that sulfur plays in converting to sulfates and in being readily available for the production of glutathione.

This is a likely possibility for many of us who have difficulty detoxing, unhealthy intestinal environment, chronic infections, etc. The problem with toxic metals and faulty pathways is not limited to autism.

Rachel--24 Collaborator

I believe that in time the studies that are being done will reveal enough answers and that these conditions will be more understood and better treatments will be made available. :)

Dr. Wakefield found that the ileum of the intestinal tract lacks sulfur which can lead to "Leaky Gut Syndrome".

Hepatitis B vaccinations inhibits sulphation chemistry for one week in the typical person.

What type of problems would this cause for someone who may already have deficient sulfation due to mercury, genetics or some other cause??? Would the pathway become completey blocked? If I'm not mistaken this is the vaccination that babies are given at birth.

Sulfate is needed to release pancreatic digestive enzymes.

Many enzymes are impaired is sulfur levels are low.

Even if sulfur levels arent low but the body is unable to convert to sulfate....enzymes such as PST are impaired.

Rachel--24 Collaborator

Besides No Fenol in addition to other enzymes and possible use of magnesium sulfate cream I'm also planning on asking Dr. Amy about homeopthaic sulfur for aiding in mercury excretion.

I cant tolerate sulfur (its possible that I'm unable to convert to sulfate so it builds up to toxic levels) but homeopathic sulfur shouldnt have that effect and could be very beneficial. :)

Rachel, great scientificness as usual, Carla, lovely photo, I see there are many new faces, how wonderful.

I continue to improve, this spring I go into rinne bar production with a co-packer and I am working on an idea that might not bring them into a grocer near you but would instead provide a kit for making them and a variety of recipes that could be adapted for particular diets.

I haven't been on-line so much for a while but Rachel you made me feel so special I may just have to come back more often.

I'm a little confused. In your second post you said, "but these symptoms have been ongoing for a long time before the pregnancy" while in your most recent post you say, "I was doing a lot better on the AIP diet. However, I was unable to do the full reintroduction process because I went off the AIP diet when I got pregnant and was experiences chronic nausea." CBC = Complete Blood Count. This is the typical bloodwork most people would have done routinely with an annual wellness checkup. I would include things like iron levels, various blood cell counts including reds and whites and other infection fighters. CMP = Complete Metabolic Panel. This would measure things like blood sugar, kidney and liver function, plasma proteins and various enzymes. Non cellular things that the body produces. Also typical of an annual wellness check. Have you tried cutting out dairy and oats? These two are the most common cross reactors in the celiac community. I know it must be tough trying to get adequate calories and nutrition when you are pregnant while at the same time eliminating foods that are good sources of those things.
    • Maura Gissen
They did. I was doing a lot better on the AIP diet. However, I was unable to do the full reintroduction process because I went off the AIP diet when I got pregnant and was experiences chronic nausea. This is what makes me believe it's food related.  I do check all of my food products and supplements and I am very careful about them being gluten free and trying to stay away from corn starch etc. However, I am eating gluten free breads that sometimes have rice flour, yeast, etc. - I seem to do fine with these breads/bread products some days, but then am sick other days.  I have never really had any GI symptoms outside of bloating. My symptoms are dizziness, brain fog, and a general feeling of unwellness or malaise, sort of like when you're going to get the flu.  I have had a lot of bloodwork done over the last three years, but I don't recall doing the CBC, CMP, or a celiac-specific test recently. That's helpful so that could at least provide some insight to see if I'm still being exposed.  Do you see most individual with celiacs having to take a period of time away from even gluten free breads and other cross-reactive foods to let their guts heal? I'm not sure how restrictive to get with my diet again since it's so challenging.
    • trents
Did the symptoms commence after you discontinued the AIP diet? Have you checked all nutritional supplements and oral hygiene products for possible gluten content? Have you recently checked all the labels of purchased processed foods in your pantry to check for formulation changes that might have introduced gluten? Historically, when "glutened" did you have GI symptoms or were you a "silent" celiac whose symptoms were non GI. Is what you are experiencing now like what you were experiencing at the time of diagnosis? Have you had recent blood work done (CBC and CMP) and if so, were there any parameters out of norm? I know you have Hashimoto's but you say that is well controlled now? It certainly wouldn't hurt to get celiac antibodies rechecked. Because you are essentially gluten free I would not expect to see any big departures from normal levels but if there are even weak positives it could indicate you are getting glutened from some unexpected source.
    • Maura Gissen
Hi Trent! Thanks so much for your warm welcome and questions! They do, but these symptoms have been ongoing for a long time before the pregnancy. However, it's hard for me to know what's a celiac response vs. a Hashimotos one. I haven't, maybe it's worth getting those checked again?
    • trents
Welcome to the forum, @Maura Gissen! Don't those same symptoms often come along with the territory when pregnant? And then throw in Hashimoto's.  Have you had your celiac antibody levels checked recently?
