Can't wait to hear about Rachel's softball game.

Patti, it was a disapointment to say the least. There were no homers for me last night. There was actually no game for me last night. :(:(

My friend (who I might have to kill) asked me to play for her cuz she went to Disneyland for the weekend. She told me they *needed* me to play....that they had no other girls. Well that was NOT the case....they had plenty of girls and werent even aware that I was coming.

They said I could wait it out and maybe they'd rotate me in at some point but they had alot of players. I had brought a friend with me and we were gonna go see a late movie since the game was an 8:00 game.

I said Forget this...I'm not gonna sit out the whole game and have my friend have to sit there too and then go to an 11:15 movie when he had to work early this morning. He said he didnt mind watching if I wanted to stay "in case" they needed me to play but I opted to leave. We went to a 9:30 show instead....good thing too cuz the movie was long (2 1/2 hours). I would have been falling asleep watching this movie at 1 in the morning.

I wish I could have reported back that I had got some great hits, made some good plays....or really if I had anything to report back....it would have been nice. It just was not to be last night. Oh well...I need to find a team to play on now that I'm back at work fulltime and I'm not sick like I used to be.

In the meantime I'm still going ROCK CLIMBING next week!! :D

Rachel, hooray for rock climbing, I have a feeling you're really going to like it! And no "sitting out" and waiting around.....well, as long as you've got a belayer, that is...

and what movie, BTW? :)

Dang these dogs are irritated with me........:lol::lol:

Susan,

Take those girls for a walk. They'd probably enjoy it since it's been so hot lately.

Lauren who....Lauren M?

and what movie, BTW? :)

We saw Miami Vice....it was ok. Kind of slow during the middle but good action at the beginning and end. I really want to see You Me and Dupree. It looks like it would be funny. I totally love the movies. I could go every weekend and be happy...there is something missing without the popcorn though. Movie popcorn was a HUGE part of my love for the movie theatres. I'm still feeling a "void" from that.

Thumbs up on our Rachelville Trophy!!! Sadly, I don't think I could even be in the running for the trophy, but I'll get over it, lol.:lol:

Donna (or anyone),

I missed it?? What does one have to do in R-Ville to get the trophy??

Yes, the dingos are pacing and mommy is sucked into her vortex again...:lol:

Lauren is our friend from Monterey who has co-written two books with my older dog. She is only 27, lives in Fresno now, and is like my little sister. Not Celiac or on this forum, and too bad because she is so much fun!

Rachel - I have discovered a wondrous and highly addicting treat called Poppycock - - holy Lord am not allowed to keep it in the house......maybe that could work our some movie popcorn issues for you? I know, it's not the same... :(

EDIT - I had a dream I was dating Tiki Barber - NY Giants? - (was that from the Baked Lays?? ) and I HATE HATE HATE football now, thanks to Robert's obsession :angry::angry:

I was planning on bringing my own popcorn next time I went to the movies. I DARE them to give me a hard time about it!! I love the movies, too. We took the kids to see Pirates of the Caribbean last week. I really liked it! Of course, I like Johnny Depp in anything.

Somebody tell me if there's a good reason not to do this, but a friend of mine who seems to me to be very nutrition- and chemical-savvy instructed me to ALWAYS wash grapes. Not rinse. Wash. With dish soap. Which actually makes sense, because if you read the ingredients on the expensive fruit and vegetable wash that they sell in the produce aisle, the active ingredient is "surfactant."

Anyway, I've been doing this for about 8 years now, and I gotta say, it DOES get rid of that haze on the grapes, whereas plain water doesn't. So that must mean that that haze is totally CHEMICAL. And the grapes seem to taste much sweeter when I wash them with dish soap, too....just be sure to rinse really, really well!

Okay, I may persuade my mom and aunt to go shopping at bed bath & beyond today to look for that STUPID ice cream maker.

LMAO

Poor ice cream maker.... another innocent victim.....just like those poor little helpless critters that we like to think Donna "relocates" ever so carefully. I know better. ;)

Oh...back to the black ants....apparantly they werent after the alien baby after all. My Moms huband said they have been biting him as well. They are just evil ants and they must be stopped!

Nice! My grandfather took up boating when he retired and joined the Power Squadron. When he took the test, back in the 50's, a couple months later the FBI showed up at his door asking about where he had captained a ship because they had searched every known country and couldn't find his records. My grandfather told them he had never even been on a ship. To make a long story short, he ended up writing the manual for celestial navigation that the Navy uses to this day. They actually write the textbooks from the book he wrote, that's my understanding. Of course, technology has changed, so I bet they use computers more now. When he met my hubby, my grandfather was so modest that he told Adam he taught sailing classes. Anyway, he didn't pass on his understanding or knowledge of the stars to me. BTW, his previous career was selling beer.

I guess I don't need to worry about being off topic on this particular thread

Carla,

What's topic......just ask Susan. :P

We love ya Susan!

Vincent -- Cool comic!

Susan -- It's not easy to keep posting to inject testosterone when these silly thunderstorms keep knocking out the power when I try to post.

The last time I was at the movies, I took my soon to see the last Harry Potter movie.

Carla -- When I was taking my commercial pilot's license in college, we learned celestial navigation the old way, and may very well have used that book you were talking about. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Rachel -- If you want a safe way to repel ants, try putting a chalk line around the ant hill. Just normal every day sidewalk chalk should do the trick. IT won't kill them, but my MIL says most ants are allergic to chalk, and will not cross the lines. Just draw a big circle around the hill at night and see what happens. They should be trapped inside.

Cecile, great news about the kids' house! Post pictures!

Thanks, all, for the good wishes! I think I've found the culprit, but it makes no sense to me. I had a Crispy Rice Bar, the one with peanut butter, from Enviro Kidz, but I've eaten them before with no problems. ???

I don't want to give up spinach either. I'm wondering if I should try taking a couple of Benadryl about an hour before eating spinach. Do you think that would offset the high histamine content?

Susan, haven't you gotten rid of that bomb yet? Baaad chips!!!

My dumb computer won't let me see our town trophy! Suggestions?

Cissie

I was thinking about cutting down on the spinach and seeing if it had an affect- I'm so happy to have a fellow spinach lover!!!

I was looking through for the Oscar Meyer Weiner reference, but couldn't find it :(

The book he wrote was very comprehensive and written back in the early sixties. That will be interesting to see. When my hubby was scuba diving in Cayman Islands in 1984, one of the guys there in the Navy had learned from my grandfather's book.

Icecream is in the air :lol: Rachelville has gone icecream crazy!

MiaMia- I have seen other posts on the board about making icecream with coconut milk, my concern is I haven't been able to find a brand of coconut milk that doesn't put guar gum or some type of other additive as an ingredient. Also can you try other greens in place of the spinach while you do a trial elimination?

Donna- I have been off eggs for probably a couple months now, I was eating them everyday, sometimes twice a day, for years. I was highly allergic to them on my allergy test, I decided to take them out and see if it made a difference. So far so good.

I missed Mango!! How wonderful to hear from her. :)

Karen- the trophy is great!

*EDIT- shoot, my picture links don't work :(

julie-

I was having the same problem finding a coconut milk with out added ingredients. But I just recently found one at trader joew- its their brand- where that is the only ingredient- its been in my cabinet for a while - I have to try it.

I have such poor digestion- kale and so on are pretty tough for me and I have yet to find a lettuce I can tolerate. I can't tolerate the spinach if its uncooked. Me and raw don't get along!!

The first reference is page 240 or 241....but I think you're looking for what starts on page 243. :P

Okay, I didn't look back far enough ... I found the Oscar Meyer reference. ROFL :lol::lol: That song's always been the one my husband has liked to sing in the shower. How will I ever be able to keep a straight face now?

Rachel - I'm not sure what one has to do to get the trophy, lol, but whatever it is I'm sure I am not in the running.

I did not end up going to Bed Bath & Beyond so I am safe on the ice cream maker for another week, lol. (although I did look for it at Target, lol)

I think I did well grocery shopping this morning...I think I am low histamine for the coming week. I'm anxious to see how that will affect things. I found some organic corn tortillas, not the FFL brand and these are pretty small, but I'm anxious to try them. THe only ingredients are corn flour, lime and water and they are light in color kind of like the flour tortillas I love so much. They don't say organic though...Whole Foods did have one brand that was organic which I may try if I like these. P.S. I didn't buy any Bumble Bars or chocolate, lol.

Okay I KNOW those links must be good ones because every one I clicked on I got the "FORBIDDEN on this server" message, lol!

Funny thing about the eggs for me is that I had the egg test from Enterolabs so I know I'm not intolerant and I had allergy testing (stratch) done a couple of years ago and didn't have a reaction to that either.

CarlaB Enthusiast

I'm afraid to ask what those were links to, I also got Forbidden on this server message and I have no filters set up and use AOL high speed internet!

Welcome to the forum, @Karen Chakerian, We need more information, please.   What homeopathic remedies or medications are you taking now?  Do you still have the blood pressure and other symptoms?  What is included in your diet currently?  Dairy? Oats?  Processed gluten free foods?  Vegetarian?  Other food allergies?  Do you take vitamins?  When gluten is removed from the diet, the body stops making the anti-gluten antibodies that are usually measured in blood tests used to diagnose Celiac disease.  To measure the anti-gluten antibodies, you would have to consume 10 grams of gluten (4-6 slices of bread or equivalent) per day for a minimum of 2 weeks or longer.   A DNA test which looks for the most common genes for Celiac Disease may be a less invasive avenue to pursue.  Has your doctor checked you for nutritional deficiencies? Glad you're here!

@SaiP, Insomnia is listed as one of the side effects of Loratadine.   Niacin B3 in the form Tryptophan, Pyridoxine B 6, Folate B 9, Cobalamine B12, Magnesium, and Thiamine B 1 are needed to produce the sleep hormone melatonin.  Insomnia can also be caused by low Vitamin D and low Vitamin A.   A strict gluten free diet can be low in essential  vitamins.   Gluten containing products are required to replace vitamins lost in processing and milling.  Gluten free processed foods are not required to have vitamins added.  White rice is not a good source of B vitamins.  Brown rice is little better.  Exposure to light (even grocery store lights) and heat (during transportation) can destroy B vitamins.   B vitamins are easily lost in urine and diarrhea because they are water soluble.  If you have had diarrhea longer than two weeks, you are probably low in B vitamins.  Fat based vitamins, like Vitamins D and A, can be low due to fat malabsorption in Celiac disease, too.   Damaged villa in Celiac Disease do not absorb B vitamins and fat based vitamins and minerals well.  Supplementing with essential nutrients while villi heal boosts the ability to absorb essential vitamins and minerals.  Vitamins are stored and utilized inside cells.  Blood levels are not accurate measurements of vitamin deficiencies.  You can have normal blood levels while having deficiencies inside cells.  The brain orders cells to release their stores so the brain and heart can keep functioning.  This results in normal blood levels, but vitamin deficits inside cells.   Your indulgence in a little bit of bread is providing some, but insufficient amounts, of vitamins needed to make sleep hormone melatonin while keeping your inflammation and histamine production high.   In addition to a B Complex, I took 1000 mg of tryptophan before bed to correct my insomnia caused by high histamine levels.  Correcting my Vitamin D level to between 75-100 nmol/ml helped as well.  Also Passion flower extract is helpful in falling asleep quickly.   Please stop eating gluten bread as this will keep your autoimmune response triggering and your antibody levels won't go down and your histamine levels will stay up as well.   Celiac is a marathon, not a sprint.  P.S. I wanted to reiterate that insomnia and weight loss are symptoms of Thiamine deficiency.  Benfotiamine is a form of thiamine that promotes intestinal healing.  Thiamine is water soluble and nontoxic even in high doses.  High doses are needed to correct thiamine deficiency. All mitochondria in cells utilize thiamine.  The World Health Organization says to take 500 - 1000 mg per day of thiamine and look for health improvement.  Diets that are high in carbohydrates like rice and gluten require more thiamine.  For every 1000 calories from carbohydrates, we need 500 mg more thiamine.  Thiamine is found in meat.  Few veggies contain thiamine. Can you rise from a squat without assistance?  This is the field test for thiamine deficiency used by WHO.  If you cannot rise easily from a squat you may be thiamine deficient.

Earlier, you mentioned the possibility of adding in sweet potatoes. Have you tried that? Have you tried sourdough bread? Some people with celiac disease claim they can eat sourdough without a gluten reaction. The fermentation process alters the protein somewhat.
    • trents
Welcome to the forum, @Karen Chakerian! So, for the sake of clarity, you have self-diagnosed yourself as having celiac disease but are not officially diagnosed by medical testing. Is this correct?
    • Karen Chakerian
I’m 70 years old and have RA for 25 years. I’d never had digestive issues or even heard of celiac until 2 months ago.  6 years ago I started having serious diarrhea, dropped what little weight I had,  became very exhausted, developed rapid onset blood pressure and other symptoms. I went to the doctor for an unrelated matter and even with my records he told me they have ‘pills’ for all those things; which I turned down and sought to deal with this with homeopathic remedies.  Mid October 2024 my guts hurt terribly and started to swell. My massage therapist asked about celiac and I started to do research on it. It absolutely fits all the symptoms so I’ve been gluten free since 2 days before Thanksgiving but the huge gut persists. Thankfully the pain and cramps are gone. I look like a 90# pregnant skeleton.  I’m exhausted and looking for some encouragement from the tribe. I have good days and bad. I know living with an autoimmune disease sucks but this is even worse than the RA.
