I get off the computer for 3 hours and have to go back 4 pages to catch up again. Then I hit refresh so that I can read the posts I missed while I was playing catch up.

 Yes, if you are going BACK it might be a good idea to leave word with someone.

Or drop gluten-free breadcrumbs so you can find your way out again ;)

Donna - - why can't I be that motivated to make jewelry? :o Get on over here and let's have a jewelry party......I am too busy right now painting everything (BY MYSELF!!! lost my helpers so it's slow work) and then re-doing floors...ugh.....

I'm not that motivated, lol. I had to have something to do while I was watching 22 episodes of a set of TV series DVDs that a friend is lending me, lol. Painting (rooms) is not fun...painting pictures yes, painting rooms no and it takes a long time.

Does anyone remember the play, "Harvey"? It is a movie, too with Jimmy Stewart. There is a psychiatrist whose fantasy is to go to a grove of trees in Akron, Ohio, lie in the shade and have a lovely woman sit at his side and listen to all his life story and hold his hand and say, "Oh, you poor dear. Poor, poor dear." That is all he wants her to say! I think we need a hand holder like that in R'ville. A couple of them-one nice male and one nice female.

How about being the hand-holder for the guys penguin?! Sounds like that would balance out the jobs for you!! :)

Good idea! I heard once a long time ago that sometimes people just want someone to listen or to cry with them....handholder is a good job!

I feel deprived, I only have two jobs :P

Don't forget that you're going back to school--you don't want to spread yourself too thin!

I am miserably sick this morning and didnt' eat anything questionable or new yesterday. My gluten reactions are almost exactly 12 hours later, and this definitely has all the symptoms of gluten reaction - - I am just posting here between horrible bouts of D :( and am near the toilet, looks like, for the next six hours. Last night about 10 I ate some steamed brocolli - and well-steamed, not mushy but cooked as uncooked broc. has always made me sick. Two hours before that was a cheese omelet. Save Mart chicken and fruit during the day - - I always eat that chicken (no ingredient change) and am fine. BLUE DIAMOND NUT THINS, maybe 12 or 13 or them, at 3 a.m. Have never had them before but my reaction to that, if any, would normally be this afternoon.

I have never had problems with veggies, and this poop has all the signs and miserable pain of glutening. Oh, sorry guys, but have to add that I got my period today too - - oh dear - - and have that misery on top of everything else..... :( LIke a whole-body cramp.

Anybody think this is from brocolli? I can't imagine that that would make me this sick. has never happened.

Looks like I won't get much done today.....will check the computer in between lying in fetal position and running to the toit-y......

(p.s. HI Robbin! and yes, I do remember Harvey, we need that hand-holder in our town - I need him today and I need him to be beautiful and soothing and find me totally enchanting even in my sickness :P )

Holy crap -- I leave to talk to my aunt who was unable to come into town for the wedding, and there's 5 more pages, I think . . . . .

Just for clarification: F I N E . . . . the F doesn't stand for "Frustrated" . . . . . . :lol::lol::ph34r:

Susie -- you are making me laugh . . . . it's pretty funny, too -- now everybody is starting to call you Susie!! Cool, huh? I like that . . . .

I laugh the whole time I read this thread . . . thank you guys for a GREAT laugh each day . . . !!!

BTW: Given my life history, I feel that I could be the stand-up comic. I have enough garbage that has happened to me that I could keep an audience in stitches just telling the stuff that has happened to me!! So, Physical Therapist, Assistant Corn Shucker and Stand Up Comic, maybe??? Oh, and Florist . . . I did all the flowers for the wedding . . . . You guys pick my jobs, OK???

Some people on this board have a problem with Blue Diamond because of cross contamination. Thank G__ that I can still eat them as I have not found any other cracker that does not have corn in it. Sorry that you are so sick.

Susan,

I've not tried them, but a lot of people on the board have reported that the Blue Diamond Thins made them sick. Looking at what you ate yesterday, I would guess that they are the culprit.

Hope this passes (sorry) soon!

Also, because your period is starting, this may be why the gluten symptoms started sooner--I've always had D aroud the time of my period starting. I think that's pretty common.

If the nut thins are the only new thing you've eaten I would suspect them. Do you get more sensitive with your cycle? Could it be the nut thins earlier than normal?

I would try broccoli again when you feel better at the same time and see what happens. No more nut thins until you can rule in or out the nut thins.

Where's Annie, the therapuetic puppy?

dlp252 Apprentice

Susan- so sorry you are sick. Do you eat cheese omelets often? I think we all know that veggies CAN make some people sick here. Maybe it's just a combination of things + your period. I used to get horrible D with my periods every month. Hated it, but other than the usual misery that that time of month brings I didn't feel any worse usually.

I LOVE the idea of the Altoid trophy!!!! I think it should be a statue of Candian karen holding a tin of Altoids :P:P:P:P:P

No way! I have already designed our trophy...... I posted it back on page, geez, I dunno, maybe 5,000 somewhere back there????? but here is the link again:

:( Susan, omg, you have what is known as a TRIPLE WHAMMY. I would definitely suspect the nut thins, however, the time of the month makes you even more sensitive and broccoli is very irritating anyway. I had a bad time last week with the severe D from the combo of ham and corn meal (the whole southern nostalgia food kick) and the brain fog and bowels still are a bit funky. I did get relief by eating bananas and immodium and lots of fluids. I will pray for you today, my dear for a quick recovery from this. Also, am wondering if anyone you know is ill? Could be a virus too. Sometimes we forget that, but again that is unlikely with all the intolerances cropping up. Take care :) We need a sympathetic, gorgeous male to hold Suzie's hand! Wiping brow and offering sips of cool drinks are required as well. :D

Good googly moogly, what page was this on??? :D Did I miss a discussion about gluten-free BIG MACS, lol.

I forget where, but there's a celiac legend of there being gluten-free big macs in some scandanavian country...Norway maybe? Anyway, yes Virginia, there are gluten-free big macs somewhere in the world :)

My cake topper looked so good the picture is hanging up in the bake shop :P

I nominate you town story teller :)

Hi Everybody,

How is everyone feeling? Good or better I hope!

I had to call off work today.

I couldnt sleep last night, me teeth were throbbing and hurt so bad, jaw on the right side was making grating noises, I started getting shocks up the side of my face on the right side and a huge headache, but mostly its the tooth on the right back side, when I drank water or ate, the ice in the water,,,,just unbelieveable pain. I took 10 advil, and it didnt touch it.

I got 3 hours sleep.

Called the dentist this morning after arguing with my mom, he saw me in right away, I have to huge cavaties, literally holes in between the teeth in the back upper sides of my mouth, and food is getting caught in there and killing me.

He said that I need two more root cannals. :(

He gave me some celebrex, which I just took so I dont know if its going to help.

He knows I have arthritis in my jaw.

I think im going to stick to a pureed diet for a while, I can barely open my mouth.

Do you think that this all could be dental related? The TMJ will go away once I get my root canals I hope!!! I dont know much about teeth but this has been going on for about a year, day in and day out and its at its worst right now. Does anyone have TMJ or tooth problems that went away when they were fixed,,, ( you can tell I want reassurance:)0)

Maybe something I ate with gluten in it made it worse,,,,?

Cause I still get the puffiness and swelling in my face, but now its in my teeth, they are throbbing.

gonna curl up with a bag of frozen spinach and lay down for now.

gluten-free big Macs - Finland, very celiac-friendly...yes you can have drums and laugh track penguin....

COLONel..... ha ha ha ha h a  word origin is middle french or italian, from columns, as in soldiers lining up in, something like that....why is it pronounced ker-nal

Robbin - triple whammy - - OMG....where is that man to hold my hand, wipe my brow, cool drinks and reading me stories, hopefully a south'n accent - -

I think it was definitely the nuts thins....HELLO, they have a Celiac in their family, why would they do this to us? I thought their equipment was thoroughly cleaned - - - this D is NOT from a "dusting" of gluten - - this is MAJOR and very painful...ugh.......

Love you guys - - thanks for your support......Annie the therapy dog is right here, with me....soon I'm crawling into bed and there she will be - - she does hold hands all the time, BTW....

I think it's Finland.

They have a very high percentage of coeliacs.

Evening everyone.

Sorry for all who are feeling icky.

Good googly moogly, having trouble with my darn signature (see!I'm actually starting to sound like you guys)

How do you enlarge your letters (and possibly change colour)in your signature?

I've tried changing the size/font but it doesn't actually change it just lists in front what I chose.

For those of you that remember, hubby has had bad back pain lately.

He had an appt with his rheumatologist today. They couldn't actually find the cause (but were very thorough-sent him for x-rays and bloods, which took hours  )

X-rays were fine-but they did give him some super dooper strength painkillers so if nothing else that will see us through on our holiday.

Lynne, took me ages(my eyes are swimming) but read your wedding post-brilliiant-I love a wedding and all the funny little stories that go with it :D

Glad to see the post of village idiot has been filled by Rachel's not boss/friend Dave

Welcome aboard Dave!!

Hi Nikki - - so sorry about your hubby - - is it Spain, where you're going? hopefully at least his drugs will take him to his magic place..... That was what I loved about my drugs after appendectomy, v. fun magic place from Darvocet....

dlp252 Apprentice

Wow Christina, I don't even know what to tell you, but I'm sorry you are feeling so badly!

Nikki - are you highlighting the text you want to change first? I had to highlight the text, then change size, then highlight again and change color.

Guest Robbin

Christine, Ten Advils?!! omg, you are way overdoing that my dear. I have had teeth problems with breaking and soft enamel for awhile now and it is probably due to lack of absorption of calcium. I use a mouth rinse that is supposed to help with enamel repair. You might want to check into getting a coating put on your teeth too after you get them taken care of. My kids have had this done and it makes a difference. Also, do you have a mouth guard of some sort to wear during sleep? Sometimes this helps keep your teeth from getting damage during the night from grinding. Some of the people on here have acupuncture treatments for various problems and I am going to try that for my back and neck problems-maybe that would help you.

Susan-Where is JR? :D Maybe some soothing songs would help! ok, maybe he isn't a good hand-holder to suggest right now  sigh, he is pretty cute and sure knows how to melt a girls heart with song....

Nikki-I hope hubby feels better soon. Tell him we are sending hugs and prayers his way. You lucky girl, you!! Spain--hmmm. You are required to remember all good stories to tell us on your return.

Nikki,

Will you get the blood results back before holiday? At least he has painkillers to take but that's still a bummer.

 So sorry, lol. Okay, so at the beginning of the text you want to change click your mouse and hold the button (mouse button that is) whilst dragging the mouse across all the text you want to change (somehow that sounds confusing even to me, lol), then select the color you want...repeat the click-drag thing and then select the size (okay that just sounds weird, lol).

Highlighting! I had forgotten about that, and really had a time adding my R'ville title a few days ago :D Just hold down the left side of the mouse over the line or part you want highlighted. Then add the size and color that you want.

Sorry Donna--I didn't see that you had re-posted!

Great tips, Deb. Thanks.  What a pity that they no longer mark items as gluten-free. And it is even more of a shame that you must bring protein bars instead of the crew helping you with your needs. Are you planning on sailing Royal again?

I've not heard of any issues with Primal Kitchen, but it certainly would be worth not using the brand for a while to see if this helps. Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful:

If you are super sensitive you may want to look for only Certified Gluten-Free Products, as @trents mentioned.

I'm not sure about low calorie, as puddings are typically a dessert, but we do have this category: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/gluten-free-recipes/gluten-free-dessert-recipes-pastries-cakes-cookies-etc/gluten-free-pudding-recipes/ This one might work if you cut back on the sugar:

We are off next week on our 9th RCCL cruise since our diagnoses.  I send an email to special_needs@rccl.com before every cruise letting them know that I am both dairy and gluten free and my husband is gluten free.   Unfortunately, with the new menus they introduced in 2023, they removed the gluten-free designation from each item on the menu.  Instead of having a dedicated person take gluten-free orders, it now falls to your regular wait staff.  Some have been great and some not so good.  We had a great cruise in May and hit it off with our head waiter.  She went the extra mile and ordered gluten free desserts that were not on the menu.  My problem arises from other food allergies.  I am allergic to dairy, beef, and several types of fish.  On those days my husband is a happy camper with a steak or salmon, veggies and a baked potato.  I end up not getting enough protein, so I bring protein bars.  I also bring snacks for the room. As long as the food is commercially prepared and unopened, you can bring it. Often the only dessert choices that are gluten free contain dairy, so I am out of luck.  But, if you are just gluten free, they have plenty of choices.  See the head chef in the Windjammer buffet and he will give you a tour of the gluten-free choices.  They usually have 2 gluten free desserts out at lunch and they are labeled gluten free. We have found that it works best to have assigned dining rather than anytime.  That way the waiters learn from the get go what our needs are, and we don't have to explain ourselves every night.  We also get a private table for 2.  I frankly got sick and tired of tablemates telling me a little bit of gluten would not hurt me.
