Floridian,

I love your new pic to. Babies are so precious. I hadn't seen you new picture, it was still showing the old one but people were making comments on it. I closed out the window and reloaded it and there you were.

Rachel,

The water systems that Jim sells are not very expensive so to speak. Our kitchen defender cost $275 I think and the whole house system is somewhere around $1200. Don't quote me, but I think those are close prices. A lot of people start with the kitchen defender and get the full system when they can afford them.

Rachel,

I found this for you... it's all about cysts Open Original Shared Link

With everything you've been saying I believe with all my heart a lot of the symptoms are caused by your cyst, don't get discouraged you are on the right path!

Thanks Floridian,

You guys are great...reading your posts made me smile and put some of that positive energy right back into me. :)

The doctors condescending attitude and remarks set me off. It made me feel worse than all the ovary pain I've felt today. It reminded me of how I used to feel every time I went to my HMO. I havent had a really bad experience since I switched plans but this lady just ticks me off. When she called she spent more time talking about my "ring back" tones on my cell and asking me questions about the songs instead of explaining to me what the hell is going on with my body.

This is when I get frusterated cuz I feel as if I'm going in alot of different directions. I guess the best thing is to address everything that can be a problem. Stay focused on diet and get the cysts taken care of and keep taking tests. I made my appt. w/ the obgyn but its not until the 13th of July.

I just got back from my Health Now doctor aptt. I saw the M.D. there and she said if my cyst was over 4 cm then that is when it can be a problem. Even though its gone down since last time she said it can be staying and not dissolving like it should. She said it would certainly cause pain in someone my size. The doctor that gave me my results today was kind of snotty about me complaining about the pain on my right and the cyst actually being on my left. I dont care what she thinks...I have pain on both sides and right now its more prevelant on the right side. Anyways the one on my left is the one thats gone down and I now have one on my right that wasnt there 2 months ago.

The doctor I saw tonight said that they can go back and forth and as one grows the other can shrink and even if they change in size its still a problem if they dont leave.

The other thing we discussed is that they are now perscribing a drug that is an antihistimine that doesnt get absorbed into the bloodstream. Suppossedely its for helping to heal the gut of people with lots of reactions. Its suppossed to calm down all the histamine response that can be keeping the gut from healing. The drug stays in the gut....its from a compounding pharmacy and its like 50 cents a pill. You take it 30 minutes before a meal for about 6 months. They said you can see positive results in 1-2 weeks if its working. They gave me the # to talk to the pharmacist about it before I decide to try it or not. The doctor said she cant tell me much about it since she only started perscribing it last week...its too soon for her to give an opinion. Shes only perscribing it for the patients who are highly sensitive. She did say that pharmacist/doctor has been taking it himself and that he's seen people with severe sensitivities recover w/ the drug. I'm still undecided on what to do about this...I'll call the pharmacist on Mon.

The doctor said this is what gluten does to the gut...I told her I havent been on gluten for a very long time now. She said its what caused all this and the gut cant heal properly cuz I'm reacting to too many foods/substances.

I also told her what if I dont really have leaky gut...what if its something entirely different. She said it would be highly unlikely that I would have all these reactions w/out a leaky gut. She said she cant know for sure but in her experience all of these reactions = leaky gut.

The other thing I'm wondering. Maybe I've been glutening myself. I'm not really sure but there are 3 suspicious items. One is crackers....gluten-free but w/ allergy warning for made in facility with wheat. I've been eating the crackers daily almost 2 weeks now with no obvious symtpoms plus I've felt great all week. Then there is dried apricots (no sulphites). I felt funny after eating only 2 so I stopped. 1 or 2 days later I had a couple black spots in my mouth. These are made on "shared equipment w/ wheat, dairy, soy, tree nuts and peanuts. I tried them again and felt funny so that was it for the apricots. The last thing is a date/almond thingy. Its like a pie slice made out of dates w/ some almonds in it. Its all compacted like a pie slice. I cut off 2 tiny pieces and reacted so stopped. Then yesterday I was starving before my ultrasound and cut off 2 biger pieces and ate them. I felt like they bothered me and I pretty much havent felt good since. I have more blisters in my mouth now too. I know dates themselves dont bother me cuz I've been eating tons of fresh dates with no problems. About 10 minute after I ate the stuff I got freezing cold which is always a bad sign. I'm pretty pale today too...I lost all the color in my face. I've been kind of grouchy and wanted to cry alot...I yelled at my mom too. I'm just not dealing with stuff very well today. :(

What do you guys think? Could the date/almond treat have any gluten? The only other thing I can think of is sulfites. I didnt actually eat any almonds because I didnt get that far into the pie slice. Maybe the thing was perserved with sulfites? It has to be that or gluten.

Also with the apricots saying "made on shared equipment with"....would this be more dangerous than the ones saying "made in the same facility"?

Do they mean that the machinery is not cleaned and the stuff is all contaminated?

I think I'll be better either tomorrow or the next day. Since I usually recognize something when its not safe now I dont get sick as long as I used to because I dont continue eating it unknowingly. This is a good thing. :D

Thanks! The price is not as bad as I thought. I thought it was several thousand dollars. I would just need a kitchen one. Thanks for letting me know...I'm gonna look into it. :)

Recently, a bunch of us were taliking about what we'd do if we won the lottery. I said that after the family was taken care of and all that, I would have a big, long weekend somewhere nice and fly all of my Celiac.com friends in so we could all meet under one roof! Of course, I'm as unlucky as they come, so it'll never happen--but wouldn't that be fun! :D

Jersey,

That would be sooo cool! I've thought about that before too. :)

- Doctors are retarted- always always trust your body first. The most frustrating thing I have found about "regular" doctors is they want everyone to fit into some exact typical prototype- forgetting everyone is an individual. And two they want to treat whatever they can with medication- so you never really heal anything you just supress it and usually develope someother problem because of the mediciene. (this is my experience/ opinion)- and yes I am a bit bitter)

I have bad leaky gut and I have to tell you from what you have described it does sound like you do to- even the way you reacted to drinking too much water. I know for me if I drink to much or eat too much at one time I am autamatically sick no matter what it is I have consumed. with leaky gut and malabsorbtion your body is taking everything in and not recognizing what is toxic and what is nutritious- so when you inundate your body with alot at one time I think it just overwhelms it- this is again just my experience.

I am so sorry your dealing with this cyst thing on top of everything- you really are a trooper!!!!

ITs good you got your mom- honestly my mom is my saving grace as well. I laways go over to her house when I have reallly bad days.

All this talk about everyones's pictures- I gotta remember to post one.

Oh and rachel I am so so amazed at how much weight you've gained and how much better you've been feeling- I am not usually a copycat but in this case I really do hope I can find some way to emulate you!!

:lol: That made me laugh! I couldnt agree more.

Yeah...I'm on the same page as you as far as the doctors go. I just have such bad luck with the mainstream ones and you're right they act as if everyone is exactly the same and if its not written in their textbook then it isnt "real".

I just got off the phone with my ex (who is also my best friend)....we discussed all this stuff and I decided to try out the antihistimine drug for a week or two and see if it helps. I'm also gonna push to get the cysts removed asap.

Miamia,

Under any other circumstances I'm sooo anti-copycats! I'm more like..."Be yourself...be an individual!"

But only here on Celiac do I wish we could all be the same....HEALTHY!! :D

HOLY COW....this thread has more than 10,000 views.

There must be alot of people reading and not posting cuz I think theres only a handful of us actually posting.

I was thinking some people must be wondering if this thread will ever die!! They probably wish they could kill it.:lol:

HEY...I was just in the fridge and that little pie shaped date/almond thingy is actually a fig/almond thingy!

Sheesh....you'd think by now I'd know what the heck I'm putting in my mouth after having to scrutinize all the labels!

Anyways I'm thinking its sulfites that I probably reacted to cuz I'm pretty sure figs are usually treated with sulfer dioxide. I do eat alot of figs w/out problems but they are a special organic unsulphered kind. The pie shape thing wasnt organic or unsulphered. <_<

Rachel,

Don't forget that when one of us posts the rest of us hop on to see what's going on. :P That does add up.

That's great that you and your ex still get along so well. Any chance of a reconcile in the future?

By the way that website for the Kitchen Defender is www.pureaircleanwater.com. So you don't have to look back for it. Jim MacMahon is the one who sells, and I believe makes, these. Great guy! Very helpful too. :D

If this post gets killed we'll just start another one. I feel like I don't really belong because I don't have any major health issues. I hope I can still be a part of you guys though. I don't even know if I have celiac or just gluten intolerance. I don't have malabsorption (my oldest son has mild). Although, I do have to say that if my baby hadn't broke out in his rash I would have blissfully still been eating gluten completely unaware of how much damage it can do. I've added our results from enterolab to my signature.

You guys are great and I'm always rooting for better days for you all!

 NO WAY!

We are way better friends...we talk every day. Been broken up about 6 years now and I've been in 2 relationships since then. We still own a home together but arent living in it together. I feel blessed that we have a great friendship though. :)

So with one of these things...does the water just come out of the faucet totally pure? Its actually better than bottled water? Sometimes the bottled stuff tastes kinda funky to me.

Hey you dont need to be sick to post here....you've contributed plenty on this thread! I dont know for sure if I have Celiac or gluten intolerance either...I just lean toward intolerance. Just be happy you found out about gluten before you got sick. I'm glad you've joined us here and all of you guys bring me up when I'm down so the more the merrier! :D

He sells a little faucet with it that connects to the cold water line under the sink. He includes all the parts unless you need a bigger or smaller size connector. Don't remember what it is called. We have a three stage because that is what we need for where we are. He sells one, two or three stage. The water is fabulous. :D Now I can give the baby some to drink. Didn't want to before since we have lots of fluoride, and I agree about the bottled water. We buy it just to have a water bottle to use for awhile. The kitchen defender is well worth the price and if you have a bottle you'd end up saving in the long run because you wouldn't have to buy the bottled water.

I am very glad that I found out about this before any major damage was done. :)

I've been using a Multi-Pure water filter on my kitchen sink for about 12 years. I love the taste of the water that comes from it. I have a big aversion to a lot of the bottled waters, some of them don't taste 'right' to me, but I guess I am just used to my filtered water.

I can't find the post that jersey posted about olive oil soap. I just wanted to say jersey I went out and bought the Kiss My Face Lavender Olive Oil Soap and I love it!!!! It's one of the very few soaps that doesn't have citric acid in it, I was excited about that. My skin feels great and it doesn't have an overpowering, synthetic smell like some soaps have. So thank you for posting about it.

I agree Mia Mia, I don't think too highly of the medical profession. But that's totally my personal thing and I try not to project it on to others. I think we all have to make our own choices when it comes to health and do what's best for ourselves as individuals.

Sounds like you have a good plan Rachel. I always feel better about things when I have a plan of attack to follow and I just focus on that. It's great that you have the support system too of your mom and ex. How great is that that you are able to be such close friends even after breaking up? There's not enough of that going around imo. I love that me and my boyfriend are best friends too, I think it makes for a really great foundation. So sorry yours didn't work out but like you said, you still have your best friend :):)

It also cracks me up everytime I read the title of the thread, "omg I think I am on to something". I can envision newly diagnosed people coming to tread the thread thinking they are going to learn all about celiac and related stuff and we have been back and forth all over the place with corn and msg and ovaries :lol:

christine 25 Newbie
Well the doctor just called me back right now and she said I have a cyst on each side and a fibroid but they didnt see any fluid leaking out. Personally, I think that theres fluid leaking out or something weird happening. She said the one cyst used to be 4 something and now its 2 something so probably on its way out is what she said. She told me to wait 6 weeks and they'll check again.

I told her I'm having alot of pain there especially when I sit or bend over. She said its probably intestinal...I dont think it is because when I point to the exact spot of the pain everyone tells me that its where my ovaries are located. I told her this so she said shes referring me to OBGYN.

I'm really confused and frusterated right now.

My pain is exactly like you describe Floridian....it goes into my hips. It was hurting to walk today after lunch. My most symptomatic part of the day is always after lunch...which is actually my first meal since my lunch is at 9:30. When I go back to work I'm always more sensitive to smells and I always have pressure in my head...it starts about 5 minutes after I eat and lasts about 2 hours....then I feel good again. Today it was the same thing and the ovary pain or whatever it is was really bad for a couple hours...so bad that I thought I might have to go home but then it got way better and I forgot about it.

I dont know what to think now. :(

Oh...I told her that when I sit or bend over it feels like something's getting pinched and that I'm having noticeable pain there. She said cysts dont really cause pain so its probably not the cysts but she didnt sound too sure of herself so thats why she referred me to obgyn. I really dont think its my intestines cuz its in the exact same spot and it doesnt change. It doesnt feel anything like an upset stomach or cramp either.

What is the drug called, your practitioner wants to try you on?

Why is it only for select patients?

...sounds kind of curious

good luck

I went to my gynocologist this week and she always does a long drawn out thorough exam, she's always telling me the skin on my stomach and torso is as smooth and soft as a baby's bottom. She tells me this every year, is that kind of weird??

I mean of course there are some things that docotrs are good for I have just had some really bad experiences.

I can't do dried fruit at all sulphered or not- its just way to hard for my systmem to digest.

Andrea - love the new picture...very cute! I was thinking the same thing about not belonging here, lol, but I often ignore those feelings.

I'm not sure how the doctor's can say the cysts and fibroids don't cause pain...they are correct (probably) that they themselves don't cause pain, but if they are definitely pressing on other organs and surrounding tissue, etc...that DOES hurt. My fibroids were causing all kind of pain. My doctor agreed (LOVED him by the way, but had to stop seeing him after my surgery because he switched practices and wasn't covered under my insurance plan any more).

I'm afraid of Swanson because some of their broths are gluten-free and some aren't--I worry about CC with them anyway. Imagine (if you can get it) is very good and I've never had a problem with it.

Julie--Isn't that soap wonderful?! I got the plain Olive Oil Soap and have been using it for about a week now--I absolutely love it! My skin feels clean and soft, but not tight. I don't even need a moisturizer for my legs! I love the fact that it only has like 4 ingredients--and no detergent. Glad you tried it :)

Rachel--A couple of thoughts on your snacks. The crackers made on the shared equipment could be a problem--I've found that I can't (in most cases) tolerate things made like that. The small amount of CC is enough to cause me symptoms. The other thing is (and I have no idea why) that dried fruit gives me problems, but not right away. If I eat them once in a while, ok. But if I eat dates or raisins a few days in a row, I feel funny and have strange Gi stuff.

We bought a new referigerator last summer and it has a water filter built in. I just have to periodicaly change the filter. I'm sure it's not as thorough as a separate unit, but my water and ice cubes taste really good! I do drink more water now, so that's a bonus!

It was actually the best thing that we broke up...I was in the relationship almost 10 yrs but kinda feeling like I was missing something. It was more like a great friendship all along but no romance. 2 months after we broke up I got together with someone and found everything I'd been missing...but we werent great friends. There was alot of insecurity and jealousy and the stress of constantly defending myself didnt help too much as far as my health goes. We are friends now though...sort of....we try to be anyways. We went to the movies for my b-day last week and it was nice.

I have 2 exes that are sooo supportive. My last ex still went with me to doctor visits after we broke up and was very involved in my health...he is still very supportive and caring. I dont know why my best friends are also my exes. Is that normal?

I try very hard to be good friends with the ex I went to the movies with but its still awkward even though its been 3 years. I think I still have feelings...dont know if its mutual. We just seem to have a hard time establishing a friendship so I dont think we ever really will. When we hang out its not all that comfortable...like there is always some degree of tension. By the time I go home I'm usually all tense and stressed out inside.

LOL...maybe I need therapy. :lol::lol:

It also cracks me up everytime I read the title of the thread, "omg I think I am on to something". I can envision newly diagnosed people coming to tread the thread thinking they are going to learn all about celiac and related stuff and we have been back and forth all over the place with corn and msg and ovaries :lol:

 I think the same thing Julie!

It says "maybe I can have dairy again".

I envision all these people who are off dairy coming on the thread with high hopes for eating dairy. What a dissapointment to find all this talk about ovaries, corn, farmers markets and water purifiers! Sorry to all the folks that I have unintentionally mislead. :P

What is the drug called, your practitioner wants to try you on?

Why is it only for select patients?

...sounds kind of curious

Its not that its only for select patients....the purpose of the drug is to help heal the gut so they perscribe it to people that arent healing because of high sensitivities. Not everyone has this many sensitivities and remember...these doctors are more into natural healing methods so they generally only perscribe drugs when they feel its necessary...so that leaves only a small percentage of their patients. I dont remember the name...they gave me some info about it and also about leaky gut but I left it in my car.

Anyways the drug comes from a compounding pharmacy so basically they deal mainly with people who have severe sensitivities. The doctor says the drug is pretty much made for people like me who cant tolerate much.

I'm gonna talk to the pharmacist to make sure theres nothing else in the drug like msg, corn, etc. If it causes me any symptoms obviously I'll stop taking it.

:lol: Look at it this way--with the wide variety of issues addressed here, there's gotta be a little something for everybody! ;)

Bad, bad, bad night I had last night :( I think I got way ahead of myself, I was feeling so much better and getting so excited that I started adding a lot of food and making new dinners...... well, it did me in, I was sick all night and have a bad headache, so I got up this morning, picked through my garbage to get out the only packaged thing I bought to make soup last night (Swanson, organic, range free chicken broth) well, on the back it said "yeast" with a little astric (sp) you know, the little star, and I looked on the bottom to the star and it said "yeast from WHEAT".... I HATE SWANSON NOW! My tummy hurts, I've got a headache and I'm cold and shaky. If I could find Swanson I'd slap him.

I'm sorry Floridian. Hopefully this won't have you down long. :(

Have you tried Pacific free range or organic chicken broth? They are gluten free, but you'd need to check the other ingredients. The free range ingredients are Organic chicken broth (filtered water, organic chicken), organic chicken flavor, (organic chicken flavor, sea salt), natural chicken flavor (chicken stock, salt), organic cane sweetener, organic onion powder, turmeric, natural flavor.

Organic Vegetable Broth ingredients Filtered water, organic carrots, organic celery, organic onions, organic tomatoes, organic leeks, organic garlic, sea salt, organic bay leaves, organic parsley, organic thyme. Don't know if you can eat all those ingredients but no flavors of any kind.

I also have a carton of Imagine No-Chicken Broth. It has spices which if I remember is one of those MSG things but here are the ingredients. Filtered water, organic onions, organic celery, organic carrots, sea salt, organic spices, organic expeller pressed canola oil and/or safflower oil and/or sunflower oil, organic garlic.

Seems to me the easiest way to have chicken broth is to make it yourself. Probably taste much better. I remember when my mother used to make homemade turkey soup after Thanksgiving which tasted real good. She also makes chicken soup the same way. Cook the carcass with onion, carrot, celery and salt (don't know how long, awhile though, maybe a couple hours. Strain and pick through to get the meat (if you want) and add whatever other stuff you want. She would also go through and pick out the bones without straining so the other vegetables would still be in there. I used to do that as well, need to again probably now that I'm back to eating meat.

Yeah...everyone I've talked to says they can hurt...everyone except the freakin doctor who just wanted to know how I got songs to play on my cellphone. <_<

I know my body and I know what I'm feeling.

OK...well I'll rephrase that and say I'm learning about my body and I know what I'm feeling ain't normal.

I had to change my statement since 3 days ago I didnt know where my ovaries were.

Floridian,

That really sucks.

Sorry you got glutened and are feeling bad....I hope you bounce back quickly. I wish I could slap Swanson too! Try to find the Imagine brand as Jersey suggested. I had it before and its pretty good.

Floridian, I am so sorry you got glutened. It's easy for something like this to happen, to get excited about feeling well and stable and wanting to eat more things, so we experiment and then react and it really sucks! I've been there myself too many times than I can count. Allow yourself some time to heal from your reaction and you'll get back to where you were real soon.

I'm going to be more careful with the disclaimers now. The apricots were the ones made on shared equipment so I'm definately nixing those. I think I'll keep eating the crackers (made in same facility as wheat) since I didnt get any noticeable symptoms from them. I know they dont cause me any head pressure, brainfog or blurred vision. I think those symptoms are coming from the sulfites, msg, or other additives. The only thing the crackers may be causing is loose stools so if that doesnt get better I'll stop the crackers for awhile and see what happens. At least then I'll know that it could only be from cc...also if the mouth blisters keep coming while I'm eating the crackers I'll be able to determine that blisters = gluten cc. If I give up the crackers and the blisters go away...that would be the closet I've come to seeing what symptoms gluten causes me.

I found this for you... it's all about cysts Open Original Shared Link

With everything you've been saying I believe with all my heart a lot of the symptoms are caused by your cyst, don't get discouraged you are on the right path!

Floridian, I looked at the diagram on the page and my pain is exactly where it shows the ovaries. Its on both sides...still hasnt gone away. How long does ovulation last? Are the intestines located here as well cuz the doctor said there is lots of stuff in that area including the intestines. I dont believe her...I know its my ovaries.

Jersey, the soap is wonderful, I love it, love it, love it!

I also couldn't find the post you asked about the Ecco Bella lipstick I think? Sorry I didn't get back to you on that. I have not tried anything other than the mascara from that line. I usually just use lipliner and lipbalm when I want lipcolor.

I have the same issue with dried fruit. It gives me delayed bowel problems.

I personally think it's great Rachel that you are able to be friends with some of your exes. Maybe it's me who is not normal in thinking this way, but I am not the kind of person who likes to cut anybody off or be mad at someone for eternity holding a grudge. To be able to be civil, or even friendly, with the people who have been such important parts of our lives at one time or another, and yet still move on with other relationships, I think shows great personal growth and strength. But again totally my opinion. Maybe I need therapy

dlp252 Apprentice

HA, maybe we all need therapy, lol, my ex-husband and I got along much better after we divorced. Course haven't seen him in years now because I moved back to California, but I think if we were still in the same state we'd be friends.

Rachel--You are definately feeling your ovaries. I know that as well as I know I'm feeling mine. See if you don't detect a cyclical nature to the pain/twinges. I do, and no matter what the doctor says about fibroids, I know that's what it is. Stick to your guns because I don't think I've ever seen someone so in tune with their own body as you are. P.S.--I don't think you need therapy because you are great friends with your ex--quite the opposite! You both sound very well adjusted. I consider my husband my best friend--and we've been together forever :D

Julie--I can't remember if I discussed this with you, but I called Ecco Bella and the woman there told me that their entire cosmetic line was gluten-free. Just the cosmetics--some of their other products do contain gluten. I repeated "the entire cosmetic line" 2 or 3 times, and she assured me that it was. I plan to try their mascara the next time I need some--I use BE, and their mascara is ok, but I would like to try something else the next time.

Poor Floridian--Glad you got some more sleep! Do try the soap when you feel well enough :)

Julie, thats my thinking as well. I dont hold grudges and I think life is too short for all that negative energy. Try explaining it to all of my exes' girlfriends though. <_<

None of my exes are honest w/ their girlfreinds because none of the girlfriends can understand why we are friends. None of them like me. :(

I think the one that I went to the movies with last week has never even told the girlfriend that we even keep in contact...and it been 3 years....and we've done lots of things togther.

In a way it kind of makes me wonder what lies they told me when we were together....sheeesh...I'm only seeing now how well they can lie and get away with stuff.

Maybe I will stay single forever. :P

Thanks. I ve joined coeliac uk but found them particularly unhelpful - they told me to eat gluten for 6 weeks then have an  endoscopy! I m actually a retired hospital dietician so pretty well know what I m doing…… Louise

You are very welcome.😊  Do keep posting if we can help any further, and also if you aren't a member already I would recommend joining Coeliac UK if only for one year - they produce a very good gluten-free food and drink guide, a printed copy and also an app you can use on a smartphone which I am told is very helpful when one shops. I think the one thing I would say is be extra vigilant when eating out.  Never feel afraid to question the service staff.  I think most of my glutenings have happened away from the home.

Thank you! I’m currently the breadwinner as my husband is pursuing a finance degree so the nights that I am at work they can eat whatever my husband makes but when I am home we have gluten free meals and no complaints so far! I definitely don’t have a choice but to switch but I think slowly transitioning my family is good!😀

Welcome aboard, @Savannah Wert! There usually is a learning curve involved in arriving at a consistently gluten free diet since gluten is found in so many food products where you would never expect it to be. This article may be helpful:  It is good that you have identified some other foods that you cannot tolerate at this point as this is so common in the celiac population and it often goes unaddressed for years. You may find that the lactose intolerance disappears as your gut heals. No guarantee, though. Keep an eye out for the development of celiac symptoms in your children as the likelihood of first degree relatives developing active celiac disease is somewhere between 10% and almost 50%. Yes, the studies on this are all over the map. Is your home gluten free or will you be attempting to avoid CC (Cross Contamination) while fixing gluten-containing foods for your family members? It is always best for everyone in the home to commit to gluten free eating in the home environment when one member has celiac disease.
