Happy Birthday Donna!!! :D

Hope you're enjoying your day off....you defineately deserve it....and you still look like you're in your 30's! ;)

Gotta go back to work now. Yeah...I'm working on my vacation. <_<

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DOONA. And I agree with Rachel, I also thought you were in your thirties.

Yea, Donna--you look amazing for 51!! (and that's coming from a 50 year old  ) I would have guessed mid 30's.

Rachel--You're working on your vacation--my son is working on his day off! What gives

Thanks Rachel, Armetta and Patti! Keep in mind the picture is kind of fuzzy, lol.:lol::lol:

Floridian! I've been wondering where you've been I'm very happy to hear that you're doing better mood-wise. Congrats on going out to dinner--I'm usually too scared to do that. I've eaten at Friday's twice since my diagnosis--both times, everything was ok, but still...Gosh, I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't eat potatoes--but good that you found the culprit! :) Have a nice holiday weekend B)

Well I dunno about him but I'm doin it for the $$. ;)

It kind of sucks but because I was off on disability for 2 years I dont get paid for a 40 hour week of vacation. I didnt find this out until I got my vacation check which was only 12 hrs. of pay.

I have 4 weeks vacation coming (which I have to take) and for each one I'll only get 12 hrs. pay!!

I have to spread them out so I dont go broke. :(

Anyways my ex/friend is store manager of another Safeway and needed extra help today...it wasnt too hard to talk me into it....seeing as I got almost no pay this week. Every little bit helps. ;)

I hope you're doing well with the medication, praying for you.... you are brave to try it, I give you alot of credit!

Thanks Floridian....Its good to hear from you and even better to hear you're feeling good. :)

Bummer about the potatoes though...I cant have them either. :(

Yea, he is, too! He's an auto tech and has the option of going in on a day off and getting in some extra work (he's paid by the job)

That sucks that you have to take the vacation time and only get 12 hours for a week's pay. Get some rest now :)

Oh yeah...the capsules are gelatin-free. That was the whole reason I called him.

He said he doesnt use gelatin at all since alot of people are sensitive to it.

Rachel, I have been waiting a bit since you posted about the new medication you are taking (ketitofen) so?

to ask you to send info about how to get it in other states. thought you might be getting several requests. I will see my local Dr. on Monday, would like to tell her about it and if she can't prescribe it will tell my GI @ University some time in July. From reading what you posted (so well) it sounds like it might be a miracle med for we celiacs!! sure hope it helps you soon and a lot. let me know if you do not still have my address, I will send it to you. hope you get to enjoy rest of your vacation!! :):) evie

If it's not paid time off, I don't think they can legally call it vacation, can they? It's more like forced temporary layoff! You don't belong to a union, by any chance, do you? Seems unfair to the point of not being legal!

Have any of you looked at www.dogtorj.net. He has written articles for celiac.com and has some very good ones about diet for animals and man. He has benefitted healthwise from eliminating the "big four" which is gluten, dairy, soy and corn. My hubby just decided we are going dairyfree again (except for butter at this point). He threw out the milk and a small container of half and half and heavy cream. Boy do we like throwing away money. :o Organic is expensive enough but oh well. I haven't even began reading things on the website but what I have looked at is very good. Check it out and let me know girls.

BTW...just finished the ice cream last night. It was nice while it lasted. :( To health, right? That's what we are here for. I know many of you have already gotten rid of the big four or severely reduced them.

I read enough of the DoctorJ article to be very impressed by him and the connections he is making between human diet, history and health.

I ate a lot of soy in my twenties (vegetarian days) but haven't in the past few years, no real reason not to eat it but after reading what he had to say about it, I think I will avoid it. As to corn, after reading the article I made some polenta and although it tasted good and didn't hurt I fell asleep soon afterwards and woke up feeling groggy so I think I will avoid it also.

I have been avoiding dairy but had a little goat cheese yesterday and it seemed fine which goes to his theory about goats versus cows.

I tried the food testing thing to see if my body moved toward or from the food but I think I am too hungry by the time I am waving the food under my nose. :D It did make me think about the process of eating and the way in which doing something like that is like asking the body for permission, does that make sense? I wonder how many times my stomach has been knotted even before I began eating and that in itself interfered with my digestion.

I have been feeling a little better, no burning and stabbing pain I associate with being glutened in about a week now and with that relief there are moments of real happiness. They are mixed up with grief for the person I might have been if I had had good health, the pain in my back has not gone away. I know I would have been kinder to my husband. :( The change in my temperment in the past few weeks has been such a relief to me and to him. I had been thinking it was menopausal and now I realize it was not. I wonder how many 51 year old women out there being medicated when a change in diet is all that is required.

Probably so true!

I haven't looked at the website...may have to wait until Monday when I'm at work with a faster connection, or I may try tomorrow here when I'm less tired. I'm tired after my day of shopping plus I've been tearing apart my house trying to find a passbook and a deed for my father's house. I can't find them anywhere...probably put them someplace safe in one of my brain fogged states and, well, that could be anywhere and most likely not a logical place. So, trying to figure out where I might have put them when brain fogged is wearing me out, lol. Maybe I should tear apart my pantry...I might find them in the rice.

I haven't tried the testing thing yet, but I intend to give it a try...why not, lol.

I will check the website out Andrea.

I take things back to the store all the time. Since I go so often, my mom too, we have made friends with a lot of the head personel and they say if we don't like something or it if it makes us sick to return it no problem. We both still end up throwing things out but not as much as we would. If I try something and I don't like it or if it causes a reaction back it goes, or if something is spoiled or etc, back it goes. They take it with no questions asked.

Hi all :D

Been feeling pretty good....mood is better and since I'm not eating potatoes anymore I've felt alot better, I just wonder WHY potatoes are hard on me, kind of bugs me not to know the WHY.... oh well

Was a little scarey for me tonight, I went OUT to eat... good googly moogly.... everything so far is fine.

I've been a little out of the loop but I've been keeping up reading all the posts.

Hope you day went well! :D

Floridian,

It's good to hear you are feeling a little better. I saw your post about feeling a little down after the hurricane and I don't blame you, that's a scary thing to always live in fear of. I would be wound so tight

The mood change after eliminating potatoes, that's a very positive sign that you are heading in the right direction. For me, when my foods were affecting my brain chemistry and my moods I knew I needed to make some changes. Depression for me is a big connection to an allergy/intolerance.

I'm tired after my day of shopping plus I've been tearing apart my house trying to find a passbook and a deed for my father's house. dlp, hope you had a great day yesterday on your birthday. What did you buy?? Anything you can share??

Hope you find the deed.

Evie,

Honestly, I dont know how to go about getting it in other states. I didn't even know the laws were different for each state until Jersey posted what her own doctor had told her. He may have not been unaware the FDA approved it for compounding or the laws may truelly be different. I'm not sure on that. Even though I'm in CA I'm not getting it from a pharmacy here....its coming from WA. I just gave those who were interested the pharmacy info. so that they could speak to the pharmacist themselves or have their doctors call.

Yeah...I do belong to a union....a weak and sucky one! I wouldnt count on my union for anything....just calling them would be a complete waste of my time.

I wouldnt make an issue of it since I like my boss alot. He's always gone out of his way for me. I know if he could schedule me w/out creating problems for himself and the store he would do it. He's a great guy and caring too. We're friends and if we hang out he always makes sure not to wear cologne so that I wont feel sick. I never even mentioned his cologne to him....he just does it out of consideration for me. He was the one that made my Bday special at work. I've gone to the union with "issues" many times in my career but could never see myself doin it to this guy.

Have any of you looked at www.dogtorj.net.

Yeah....I've read and posted some of his articles in the past. He is very knowledgeable...he posts on the BrainTalk community so I've read alot from him there too. Its pretty much what convinced me to stay off the dairy, soy, and corn.

Rachel--24 Collaborator

Well...tomorrows the last day of my vacation and it was probably the worst week off I've ever had. After doing pretty well for 2 months everything went to hell this week. I'd been stable at 110 lbs. since I started this thread but in less than 7 days I lost 10 lbs. and got really really sick.

I've had loose stools w/ undigested food all week. I thought it was just the yams but after eliminating them the problems continued and worsened. The whole week is a blur to me due to the massive brainfog.

I never got a reaction while eating anything so it was difficult to determine what was causing it. I got alot of swelling and tightness in my head, major inflammation of tissue all over my body, dry mouth with white tongue, headache and really bad blurred vision. My whole chest area got so much inflammation it feels like someone punched me super hard all over...it was hurting to breathe and I thought I might die when I had to sneeze once. My back and shoulders were hurting pretty bad too. None of this has happened in a long time.

I totally knew it was the Auxigro cuz looking back at my food journal these are the symptoms that correspond with me eating yams, potatoes, strawberries, lettuce, carrots, celery and cucumbers. All the stuff heavily treated with Auxigro. I finally had to face it that I cant eat my sweet potatoes that I really love. I gave up the yams but continued eating the sweet potatoes....except for one day in which I noticed some improvement but I went back to eating them and got worse.

I ate 4 of them before work yesterday. They were small so I figured they were safe because of their size. I honestly felt like my head couldnt possibly get any more swollen w/out bursting. Today my head is feeling better and my vision is improving but some definate damage has occurred. Yesterday I could see and feel the inflammation all over chest and shoulders.....I can only imagine what kind of inflammation I've got going on in my intestines. My food just goes right through me. I havent absorbed anything and I'm dehydrated. Anyone whos read alot of my posts knows its a rarity for me to have "D" but today I had alot of it....even just drinking water sets me off. I was doubled over with cramps.

Finally feeling better and able to eat a little. The inflammation in my chest and head got alot better. From what I went through this week and what I see when I review my journals is that vegetables cause me more serious problems. Its a gamble and I always end up losing. Auxigro is 30% MSG so thats what I'm getting with my organic sweet potatoes....I think its alot stronger than what I would get even from eating processed foods.

Grains cause me problems too but nothing like this....I guess I have to choose the lesser of 2 evils and go back to rice and pancakes. I dont want to play with fire anymore. I think the rice and other foods bother me cuz of poor digestion but the Auxigro in veggies seems to actually do serious damage to my tissue. Hopefully the meds will start working in the next few weeks and I'll be absorbing more. My next vacation is in about 8 weeks...thats how long the pharmacist said I'd have to wait till I start really feeling better. Maybe my next vacation will be less painful and more fun.

The brainfog kept me from being even the tiniest bit productive.

Judy,

No...it wasnt the med. I was gonna hold off on the med until the end of the week just in case it might make me sick. I ended up taking it sooner since I was getting sick from the yams and losing weight....I just wanted to hurry up and start getting the meds into my system hoping they might help. I started getting sick on Sat. (the first day of my vac.) and I started the med on Tues. By then I was pretty messed up already. I wanted the meds to take away the reactions but it didnt stop anything. I called the pharmacist and he said the meds cant help me that fast....have to wait 4-8 weeks to see improvement.

Rachel, I'm so sorry your vacation has been anything but. I hope this medication begins to have some benefits for you soon.

Rachel--24 Collaborator

I seem to be getting better....my head feels like 85% better than 2 days ago. I still feel like someone punched me in the chest on the left side. I remember this kind of chest pain from a long time ago pre gluten-free. Alot of the time the pain would be on my right side and I thought it was my heart back then since the pain is deep inside the tissue...it was affecting me in that area. Obviously it wasnt my heart and I had x-rays and all that. Glad this time the pain is on the left side though....its less worrisome. Hope its gone by tomorrow cuz I do alot of lifting at work and with this pain I'll be cringing.

Rachel, do you have enuf foods left to use a 4 day rotation diet? I am afraid you are going to lose (to intolernces) all foods or most! when you are having diarrhea that is when you are most liable to have that happen. sounds like vacation week was not such a great week, sorry. :( I just happened to see my dermatologist last week for pemphigoid of mouth and mentioned itchy bumps on wrist and chest, he said we will biopsy them, sounds like DH. I will find out thursday when have stitches out by nurse, was not really planning on that but guess we might as well be ready for bad as well as good surprises!! :(

could you send me the same info you sent to the other posters on the new med and the pharmacist? hoping each day this week sees you feeling better. THX evie

Aw Rachel--that's awful that you were so sick all week! I was hoping that the reason you weren't posting much was because you were busy enjoying your vacation! Here's hoping that by the time your next one comes, the med will have kicked in and you can really enjoy yourself. Did you get some rest, though?

@glucel, I agree with @trents.  You can still do the AIP diet while taking aspirin.   I'm one of those very sensitive to pharmaceuticals and have gotten side affects from simple aspirin.  Cardiac conduction abnormalities and atrial arrhythmias associated with salicylate toxicity https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3952006/ Another part of the problem is that those drugs, aspirin and warfarin, as well as others, can cause nutritional deficiencies.  Pharmaceuticals can affect the absorption and the excretion of essential vitamins, (especially the eight B vitamins) and minerals.   Potential Drug–Nutrient Interactions of 45 Vitamins, Minerals, Trace Elements, and Associated Dietary Compounds with Acetylsalicylic Acid and Warfarin—A Review of the Literature https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11013948/   Aspirin causes a higher rate of excretion of Thiamine Vitamin B1.  Thiamine deficiency can cause tachycardia, bradycardia, and other heart problems.  Other vitamins and minerals, like magnesium, are affected, too.  Thiamine needs magnesium to make life sustaining enzymes.  Without sufficient Thiamine and magnesium and other essential nutrients our health can deteriorate over time.  The clinical symptoms of Thiamine deficiency are subtle, can easily be contributed to other causes, and go undiagnosed because few doctors recognize Thiamine deficiency disorders. Polymyositis is a rare autoimmune disease that makes your immune system attack your muscles. Any autoimmune disease is associated with low vitamin D.   Even as a kid I had weak legs.  Now I feel the burn just walking to the mailbox. A case-control study found that patients with polymyositis (PM) had higher lactate levels at rest and after exercise, indicating impaired muscle oxidative efficiency. The study also found that an aerobic training program reduced lactate levels and improved muscle performance.

The paleo diet is based on the idea that the human body evolved to consume a balanced ratio of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, and that the modern diet is out of balance. A healthy ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 is 1:1–4:1, while the modern diet is closer to 20:1–40:1. The paleo diet aims to restore this balance.

Best thing you can do for them! First-degree family members (parents, siblings, children), who have the same genotype as the family member with celiac disease, have up to a 40% risk of developing celiac disease. Make sure you and they get enough vitamin D and iodine in their diet.   Iodine deficiency is a significant cause of mental developmental problems in children, including implications on reproductive functions and lowering of IQ levels in school-aged children. Vitamin D deficiency is common in the United States, affecting up to 42% of the population.
