My birthday is Monday, so I'm having a planned splurge that I probably shouldn't have, but it won't make me feel bad ... Haagen Dazs vanilla with hot carmel syrup.

Yummy. :D

The other day I bought the wrong ice cream...I just grabbed the wrong flavor. It was vanilla and caramel. I had no choice but to eat it.

OMG...so yummy...I warmed it up a little too (yeah I still do that  )

I ended up "accidently" picking up another pint. :P

See....this is a huge bonus about my Eclipse. My trunk is already pretty big but I can put the seats down and have a ton of room. I LOVE that. People cannot believe the stuff I've put into that car.

My whole scrapbooking area that I built came home in my car....including the countertop....which is nearly as long as the car itself (I had to leave the hatchback open to do it). When the seats are down...I can put some pretty big things into that little car....its amazing the pieces of furniture and other objects I've bought and put into that car.

So yeah...I wouldnt be able to do that with the little pontiac. <_<

Carla...my mom totally loves the Mini Cooper....she's loved that car for awhile now. :)

I LOVE my MINI! I'll replace it with another!

I can fit a lot into it, too, but we have a van, so we usually use that because it's so much simpler. :) Hatchbacks are great because you can leave them open if you need to.

Just start paying attention to how often you usually have other people or large things in your car. Think like you already have the Pontiac, that way you can determine if it will be convenient for you. That's what I did when I thought about the MINI. It's a silly car to have with six kids! And Adam drives a Corvette! We only drive the van a couple times per week.

Carla,

Any special plans for your B-day??

I'm not too crazy about candy either...never have been.

I never ate the candy I would get in Easter baskets. Before I got sick I would still get Easter Baskets...except my goodies would be bags of sunflower seeds, gummi bears (or worms), and other misc stuff. I do like Almond Joys and Mounds alot though.

Question. Has anyone been told they have a pH imbalance and been told they are too acidic?

I have been told this could be a factor in my not feeling well.

I am going to test my saliva pH and see if it is low (acidic).

I have some stips around my house somewhere.

No special plans. We'll probably go out for some Skyline Chili (it's a Cincinnati thing, you just wouldn't understand  ). The ice cream is the big plan!

I hope Adam doesn't spend too much (he usually doesn't) ... when we were in Tampa I went shopping for clothes. We're going on a business trip to Phoenix in a couple weeks. All I have are jeans/t-shirts or dressy clothes. I bought a bunch of in-between stuff. A lot of stuff. :P

I like anything with carmel. I also like toffee, like in Heath bars or those Hershey's nuggets. I like anything malted  , but can't have that! But, gummis, jelly beans, starburts, sweet tarts, basically anthing fruity, never did anything for me.

Here is the question I asked, on Experts.com...

Subject: Mucus accumulation and pain.

Question: I have read about you describing the role the glycosaminoglycan hylauronan plays in Fibro. I have had a rapid onset of pain since taking thyroid, and several other medications. The pain is unusual in that I seem to be secreting an excess amount of mucus from my throat, it is very thick and it secretes after I eat and drink, etc. After meals my pain is very bad. I suffer from very bad pain especially in the head region, TMJ in the jaw, and also another symptom is that my skin in my face gets puffy, especially the area around the mouth. It almost feels like mucin is trapped in my skin and it swells up creating a puffy appearance. I also have skeletal pain, and its spreading throughout my body. I had hashimotos thyroidits, but my thyroid has recovered, as my levels are normal.

I feel that something is interfering with my enzymes from digesting this complex polysaccharide. Is there anything I can do. So far not much has helped. And have you ever heard of anyone with these bizarre symptoms such as mine?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Answer: I certainly experience(d) those same feelings when taking meds. Not sure about the puffiness around the mouth specifically.

What you described is what I believe the underlying action is in FMS. Serous / Lymphatic Fluids being able to leave the arterial capillaries, go out into body tissue, but not being able to leave via the lymphatic capillaries.

It's the pivotal discovery that led us to most of the rest we have learned about FMS and treating it.

Check your Saliva pH; you can get a roll of pH test paper strip in a little dispenser for about $13 at a local health food store. It does hundreds of tests, so is very inexpensive per test. Call around to see who has it. They may say it's for urine, but it's the same one.

7.0 or so is normal for humans. That's neutral on the pH scale. In Overly Acidic Fibros - like I am, and what seems to be about 80% of the others we talk to - it can be very low numbers (4.5, 5, 6, etc) A low pH number means your saliva is very acidic.

What you eat, drink or take can quickly change that, and the symptoms you described can result.

You can modify what you eat and drink and make a big difference. I put alkali in my drinking water to help keep my saliva pH as normal as possible. If that is not enough, we also use over-the-counter meds, prescription or compounded meds to bring everything to normal.

www.FibroFix.com is the all-free site I host that describes this method. I'm not a medical professional, just someone who went down the road ahead of you and found a way to tame the beast.

Thanks for your question. If this did not give you the information you need, please feel free to ask a follow-up any time.

Her main website is Open Original Shared Link I am going to try this.

(She advocates taking Entex LA, which is Guai with a decongestant like noglu mentioned, with addtional guai, avoiding overly acidic foods, taking TUMS, and a SSRI. According to her theory a neutral or correct pH creates the necessary climate for the lymphatic system to drain correctly, A mucolytic expectorates mucus and a decongestant restricts cappalries and blood vessles so serious fuild can stay thin and flow properly. This way pain and pressure is eliminated.) There is no need to eliminate salyicilate foods, or take Mucinex, she claims that Entex LA is what works best and explains why on her website.

I havent tried it yet so I am not singing high praises from the mountain tops yet, If this does work tho I am going to start my own cult.

Dear Mango04,

HAPPY REALLY LATE BIRTHDAY!!!! ;) Oh, that chocolate cake sounded great! Did it have icing too? I love icing! I miss it. :(

Thanks NGG! The chocolate cake didn't have icing b/c we couldn't figure out how to make an icing that would be free of all the things I needed it to be free of . My mom made a raspberry sauce instead. It was really good. :) A family friend also sent me a gift card to Whole Foods. I'm lucky to have lots of people who are supportive of my food weirdnesses B)

The other day I bought the wrong ice cream...I just grabbed the wrong flavor. It was vanilla and caramel. I had no choice but to eat it.

Hey that's progress! I bet there's been lots of times when you accidentally grabbed something you couldn't eat. That's the worst <_<

My mom and I were both trying to figure out the Dr's "real" feelings about the vaccines. Oprah is the one who started asking about causes and she directed her question to the Dr.

Also...the Dr. is a mom of two Autistic boys.....so not just some "clueless" Dr. not really familiar with Autism. I'm sure shes done her homework.

I'm glad I misinterpreted the doctor's thoughts. I thought maybe I had since I only caught a few mintues of the episode.

I have a question about mercury toxicity tests but I'll come back and ask it later (I just can't seem to bring myself to post any relevant information LOL). I hope everyone has a Happy Easter.

LOL  That's actually progress ... you tolerated another flavor!!! YAY!

I wouldnt say I could "tolerate it"....It had a ton of ingredients compared to the one I normally eat.

I wouldnt be able to eat it on a regular basis for sure...I wouldnt be able to rachel it and still be OK.

So yeah....its probably best if I dont bring it home.

Apparantly it must be company wide though. I'll have to ask my friend who's higher up in the company to find out more about this program....and why noone is really informed about it.

oh yeah...and I love that you are monster-posting again. :)

now maybe mine wont stick out so bad. :P

Glad you liked the idea, I say kudos to Safeway for the program.

As to monster posting, you are Rachel of Rachelville, the mistress of racheling. :P:lol:

I had bioset last night...will post about it later. I watched Oprah with my mom last night. Overall...I thought it was a good show about Autism. Apparantly its Autism awareness month.....hence all the coverage on TV. :)

I was totally shocked that they even briefly touched on some of the possible causes. Oprah gets big-time points for that! :D

They even brought up the vaccinations...you could feel the tension in the air but it was apparantly discussed prior to the show and Oprah allowed them bring it up. I guess one of the guests (a mother) had said it would make her crazy to appear on the show and not mention it at all...I dont blame her and I'm glad she took the initiative...and that the Oprah show gave her that opportunity. :)

I had hoped someone would bring up alternative treatments like chelation and I heard most of the program but not all of it, it didn't sound to me like much hope was being offered. No doubt the doctor didn't like vaccinations being mentioned.

Yep, I think we are. :) I think a combination is essential in treatment. I don't know how you can take all those antibiotics and not be building the immune system at the same time! I don't even know that we are starting on opposite ends ... I started out with mercury and candida because I didn't even know I had Lyme. When I got sick again, the first thing I did was get on the anti-candida diet VERY strictly.

I agree, I think with the kind of illnesses we have there is no one simple solution, it takes a complete lifestyle change.

I have heard that there is one kind of peanut butter that is grown that is not moldy but can't remember what it is. :(

Matilda, I agree with you..For my husband, with gluten intolerance, intolerance to corn, milk, egg, yeast, gum, and soy was developed... He also avoids paper towels-napkins, tea bags, and paper cups since they have gluten..

Well, are ya sitt'n down...cuz you aren't going to believe this, lol.

First off, Scott and his friend (I'm so bad with names) are really nice people! Rachel, you are right, I didn't need my arm for anything except touching my finger to the hollow behind my ear a couple of times.

He said the fungus wasn't a major factor in what's going on right now, but also said that MAY be because I'm actively treating it (and have been). So, whatever I've been doing is working just fine. He didn't like my probiotic though, so recommended FloraStor which both Anna and my doctors at HN said were okay.

He found bacteria and viral stuff...fortunately klebsiella was gone, but H.Pylori came up. I told him that Anna had ordered a saliva lab test and my doctor at HN had retested with a stool test and both came back clean. He said that it might be picking it up as sort of a residual energy thing since we just treated it.

My thyroid came up, and I told him that Anna had also ordered a lab test for thyroid and that came back okay, but that thyroid did come up ocassionally in my BioSET testing...in the ART testing it was connected to...

LYME!

He found LYME!!! The main one plus a couple of co-infections. Babesia, Erlawhatever and a third one which I can't remember (fortunately he will email me a report so I won't have to remember anything, lol, but that may mean more details tomorrow). He found that facinating since it was a really strong reaction and because Anna had tested me for it TWICE and didn't find anything. He tested that thing every which way and rechecked them all many times.

He tested that backwards and forwards and with all kinds of other things and it always came back to Lyme. He was just fascinated with the whole thing. I mentioned my antibiotic history and the fact that I had been on some mega doses of antibiotic about every six weeks for nearly 3 years and asked if that could be why my testing is whacko...he wasn't sure, but his friend's face looked like it could be, lol.

By-the-way Rachel...his friend has lyme too, so maybe Amy let Scott do the testing for more experience.

Anyway, Scott said it would be interesting to see Western Blots and a C D-57 for me and asked if I planned to see a lyme doctor or was going to do it all with Anna, and I said I would probably want an MD as well, so I may see Dr. S afterall. He said he expected the Western Blot would not be positive, but that it would be interesting to see the specific bands.

The really good news is that my core supplement base is really good and my body really likes it. He also said that that base is taking care of the infections/bacteria/viruses, etc. He also said it looks like the Chlorella is taking care of the metals. Ah, metals...he did see a problem with them, but again my supplement base is taking care of it.

He mentioned something called Transfer Factor to help with the lyme and when he added that to my supplement base, it seemed to take care of the lyme. He also had one other supplement which I can't remember now, lol...thank heaven for emails.

He liked all my supplements except for 3...all of which I bought on my own at Whole Foods...they just didn't test well, and interestingly, none of them tested really well with Anna either. One other (from Anna) he said wasn't actually adding anything, but it wasn't hurting, so it was optional if I wanted to continue with it.

BioSET....

We did the Krebs cycle today. That has to do with hormones and such. Wow, I reacted to nearly the entire panel, and worse, my reactions were outright which means I have to repeat the treatment next week, so no foods yet. :( Susan said my sleep hormones were really out of whack (gosh no wonder I can't sleep).

It was funny cuz Susan asked how my energy was today and I said I thought it was pretty good considering (but forgot to tell her I didn't get any sleep last night)...when she actually tested my energy to see if I could take the treatment, my energy was SO low, it barely got a reading...then when she did, it dropped. :( Dropping is not a good sign. So she had to go in and figure out what exactly was draining it so she could fix it. Rest and water came up as big villains...THEN I told her I didn't sleep last night, lol. I also guess I need to drink more water. She retested my energy and it came up with a 9 and a 19...um, the scale goes up to 60 something I think, lol.

Carla...guess what she recommended!!!!! NT Factors!!!!!  I told her about you briefly and she asked how you were doing on them...I said I thought you hadn't actually received them yet. :)

Anyway, I'll post more specific stuff once I get the email...he wasn't sure he could do that today since he had a full appointment schedule.

I do have fears about getting into an accident in a small car...like the pontiac.

I also do need room to put stuff....so if the trunk is tiny...its not a good thing. <_<

Yeah, I've been thinking about a smaller car too, but the accident thing is a factor and trunk space is another. I have a Honda Civic and the trunk is HUGE. I can fit a lot in and the backseats fold down as well for even more space.

Carla...my mom totally loves the Mini Cooper....she's loved that car for awhile now.

I like them too...it's funny because there was this guy at work who had to be at least 6'8" or more, drives a little red/white mini cooper.

Wow, Donna, that's interesting. Lyme, babs ... fun. At least you're catching it now before it's disabling. Maybe it's been dormant in you and all the antibiotics have stirred it up. I was fine for years, then got really sick and took 21 days of doxy. I never recovered. I tried the anti-candida diet, and felt a lot better, but not well.

I did get my NT Factor in the mail and started taking it yesterday. I hope it helps. :)

If you do need to be treated for Lyme, don't feel like you've lost any time ... getting the fillings out is an important step!

So many people have amalgams and no health problems whatsoever, and so many dentists are very healthy, too, that I'm kind of thinking that there must need to be some other issue to push you over the edge into ill health ... that the mercury contributes, but is not a cause on it's own.

Hi Susan! Good to see you here! If you get a new car, wouldn't it smell like wet dog, too?

I bought a carmel syrup at Wild Oats. It was all pure ingredients, so I'm betting it's going to be GREAT! REAL carmel, no flavoring! It's going over vanilla Haagen Dazs! Yum.

The chocolate pavlova sounds wonderful. My mom used to make a fancy dessert for dinner parties. She'd take cantelopes, halve them, and make melon balls, but save the shell. She'd put the melon balls back into the cantelope shell, put ice cream on top, then meringue. She'd bake it till the meringue browned, the ice cream would melt only slightly over the melon balls.

Umm, Andrea, I can't believe you're still hanging around this thread (we want you here though) ... it's seeming that all of us are getting diagnosed with Lyme ... maybe you should just skip the other stuff and go straight to Lyme testing. LOL. ;)

Yes, the good news is it seems like my supplement base has really been helping all my issues, and with the additional supplement he added in looks like lyme wouldn't be huge for me. I think I will now do the Igenix test...I was just waiting for some sort of sign, lol. I already felt like a hypocondriac at times, so I didn't want to run to every specialist with wild ideas,. Scott said that Dr. S is familiar with what he is doing and if I took my report to him he'd be open to it.

I mentioned something about amalgams to Scott and he asked if I still had some in because metals were showing up, and I said that I just had the last one out in February, but that I still have one gold crown...for some reason Dr. Adams wanted to put gold on that tooth...probably because gold is stronger and that tooth is about shot I think...I might have opted to pull it if I had thought about it then. I'm glad I got them out though...that's just one less stressor on my adrenals.

I was wondering why I wasn't getting more die off from the anti-candida diet...I didn't feel as badly as I did the first time I did it a few years ago. I'm thinking those three years of antibiotics did something...what I don't know, but I'm sure they did something.

:lol::lol:

Um, we did have a major flea infestation here when we moved, athough that would be a real slim possibility.

I still think mercury is a problem for us.

I am very interested in ART though. Since Dr Amy is up here I will contact her clinic when we can swing getting ART done (which would be a year, at least, out). I'm thinking we may only need the one screening unless we have hidden things that haven't reared there ugly head yet and then we could continue with bioset for treatment. I'd like to have things prioritized and definatively established.

I'm planning on getting my other crowns done this fall which won't leave me mercury free but will greatly reduce what's there. I don't know whether I have amalgam left under the current crowns or not. I was only told the doctor usually took it out, nothing definative. I'm thinking of having my root canal tooth pulled since I've heard so many bad things healthwise that they can cause. I know the dentist did not use mercury on top of the crown but it looks like amalgam now. My doctor gave me the name of a dentist down south that does mercury removal for a good price but we figure with the cost of flying down there, hotel and eating it wouldn't be worth the savings.

With the sale so far of the horses (and a couple baseball yearbooks) we have the funds to make up for our extra expenditures as well as paying for the comp exam and xrays with the dentist I contacted in Oregon that practices safe removal. They have high powered suction, air purifier and they offer charcoal tablets for any residual vapors/mercury. My last group of listings goes up tonight. Whatever doesn't sell, I'll keep, whether for now or for good. I may try and sell them again later in the year.

I'm here to learn and because I've grown to love everyone here.

Ha, sorry, forgot to reply to this above. Scott tested the melatonin and said my body really likes that and asked how many I take when I take it and I said 3 x 3mg tablets and he said that was about what he would have said. The second part of your question...I'm not sure. My HN doctor didn't want me to take them anymore, but not because it's harmful I think. I think he justed wanted to see if my adrenals/hormones were getting back to normal. I just spoke to him yesterday about it, and he thinks we're on the right track and that eventually I'll be able to sleep without the melatonin and mycalm (valerian root) but it's slow going. The HN doctor also gave me 5-HTP, which Scott said my body also likes.

I didn't have my bottle of 5-HTP with me, but I told Susan I was going to start taking it, so she checked something on the computer and said it would be good for the sleep/hormone issue.

I think the thought for the HN doctor is that when all the stressors to my adrenals are found and addressed the adrenals will work properly and the hormones will level out and I'll sleep better, lol. They aren't even thinking lyme though, lol.

I think the thought for the HN doctor is that when all the stressors to my adrenals are found and addressed the adrenals will work properly and the hormones will level out and I'll sleep better, lol. They aren't even thinking lyme though, lol.

OK, now I'm wondering about the injection treatment your getting (sorry, forget the name). Seems to me that that won't do a thing for the lyme and it seems likely that the pain would be from that or the co-infections. I could be wrong though.....just thinking out loud.

My gastroenterologist had me incorporate VSL#3 to help with similar issues. It can take a long time to heal. I also found adding kiwi to my diet was soothing to my stomach. For me, it was important to avoid other inflammatory foods. Dairy, corn, etc, were aggravating to my stomach. Bone broth has been another life saver for me over the years. I do know I continue to be sensitive. If I were to have dairy for two days in a row it would be like adding a log to a fire to my sensitive system. I do also have issues with acid reflux though. (Barrett's esophagus) I also stay up after eating. They say to for 3 hours but even 2 is helpful. Keep us posted on how you are. Hope you get some relief soon.

It’s not uncommon for people with celiac disease, especially those undiagnosed for a long time, to experience lasting digestive issues even after going gluten-free. The damage caused by years of inflammation in the small intestine can sometimes lead to other conditions like delayed gastric emptying (gastroparesis), acid reflux, or food intolerances. Staying upright after eating can help with digestion, particularly if reflux is an issue, as lying down can exacerbate symptoms. Greasy or fatty foods can be harder to digest, especially if your digestive system is still healing or if you’ve developed sensitivities. It’s important to discuss these ongoing symptoms with a gastroenterologist, as there might be additional treatments or dietary adjustments that could help. You’re definitely not alone in feeling like your stomach needs extra care, and hearing others’ experiences can be validating. One thing you should do is look at your diet again, and be sure that it is 100% gluten-free. Choline is a supplement that may help you with your symptoms, so consider this as well. Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. Multiple times. Have had several emptying studies and endos that come back normal.

Welcome to the forum, @RobHicks! Actually, celiac disease damages the upper part of the small bowel rather than the stomach. It's the part of the intestine right below the stomach. Since being diagnosed, have you had a follow-up endoscopy with biopsy to check to see if there is good healing in the small bowel lining since beginning the gluten free journey? You may have something else going on besides celiac disease. From what you describe, it sounds like your stomach is not emptying properly. Have you presented this problem to a GI doc?

Still waiting.  The Barrett's I've had for 5-6 years. The possible/probable Celiac is new this year.  Not sure why that's popped up, but there it is.
