I do sometimes wonder if people I know are secretly reading my posts. I mean, just think of all the people who lurk and don't post. For all I know, any of my coworkers could know all sorts of random facts about me, that I don't really want them to know

I think this too, there are thousands of lurkers, thousands. And with the amount of people that have celiac/are getting celiac, there is bound to be people we all know here sooner or later, I would think??

Hey, we're still helping Rachel, it's just that we're having a sleepover now, eating potato chips, and talking about boys and stupid things some of us did while drinking! :P

Green12 Enthusiast
Amen to that, sister! Somewhere in Arkansas, a frat boy has a video of my and my piercings at Mardi Gras :o:blink::ph34r:

This made me cringe. I was so stupid in my youth, so stupid. When I did drink I was out of control. At sometime a frat house had video of me that I don't even know what the content was.

Picard is brave enough to join this fray...are you gonna stay Vincent? This is an all encompassing thread, where you will get bunches and bunches of support for whatever you may be going through  or feeling  ...plus lots of gabbibg to boot :) . Who could ask for more? :D

I think Vincent posted that he came on here once in a while to offer input but it just got too diverse for him.

Hehe...in other words we scared him off with all our girl talk.:lol:

Hmmm...maybe it was all the stuff about ovaries??

By the way...my appt. with the OBGYN is tommorrow at 3:30.....hopefully I get something out of that appt. since I've waited a lifetime for it....well, at least 30 pages or so. ;)

NOOOOOO Sillies, its jsut too much for me to keep up with on breaks at work

I was never a big drinker and after going through a program with my brother (they required a sig. other and my parents were to busy at the time), I quit drinking the little bit that I did. Never seemed to bother anyone if I had a non alcoholic drink.

I got it all out of my system when I was young, I guess. I have had a glass of wine only rarely the past 20 years or so--none in the last 2 except a glass at Easter dinner. None since. Just don't like how it makes me feel.

I used to brew my own kalulha (sp??) Called it SHK :D Was very good... but I ever since that time when I was 11 or 12 I have had a rule that I will NEVER GET DUNK AGAIN.

My drinking was very short lived, only 2 years in college. I got drunk very quickly on very little and would black out. I have heard now that that is a sign you have the genes to be an alcoholic so I nipped that in the bud right away.

Celia, I am free to be your non-alcoholic friend :lol:

Green12 Enthusiast
I loved having a non-drinking friend, that meant I didn't have to worry about a thing when I drank :D

I wonder when Rachel is going to be back from the doctors.

I think she said her appointment was at 11:00, so it hasn't even started. I am so anxious for her.

Her appointment is at 3:30 Pacific Time if I remember correctly.

Yeah I don't like getting "drunk"... I've had my nights where I tried to sleep with one eye open so the room didn't spin and one foot on the ground.... ick.... I like to feel just tipsy and that's it.

Not me, I have not had a drink in years, but when I did drink if I have the slightest hint of typsyness I dump the rest out. I like the way Mudslides taste, YUMMY, but hate beer, and when i do drink its actually for teh flavor not the effects....

I wonder why thought 11:00?? I guess we can scroll backten or so pages

Okay so what time would that be in Florida?

6:30, I think?

I have categories of tasty drinks and serious drinking drinks.

I too have always hated beer. Bleh, yuck, pahtooey. :P

I had about 2 years at college too of real drinking, mostly because I had the ID. The state screwed up my card and although it had the correct year, it didn't say under 21 bla bla. (they put my info as being born in 1884, I looked great for 116 :P ) Anyway, NY liscences aren't shiny and hard, they're matte and flexible. A little colored pencil to make the 4 into a 1 and I was good to go. They've since fixed the id's so you can't do that, but it worked great for me, especially since I went to school out of state. :)

Anyhoo, I was the liquor whore. Although I was by far the youngest in the group, I turned 21 first. I didn't look suspicious at all in the liquor store, what with my list, wad of cash, entorage of 5 underage guys and purchasing LARGE QUANTITIES every week. Once, my roomate came running into the store when I was already in there and started screaming, WAIT, I NEED SOME TOO!!! Nope, not suspicious.

And at the ripe old age of 22, I don't drink much anymore. :P

Pickard - Welcome :) Where'd you go when you left the country for a couple years? I need to come up with some ideas of where I want to go when my OZ visa expires LOL.

I lived in Japan for a couple fo years while in the Navy. Spent some time in the Phillipines  ; Korea ;) , Oz :D to name a few. I have travelled to Ireland, England and various islands in the Caribbien. if down in Oz, try to get over to New Zealand and/or New Caledonia. I really like New Cal beautiful place, not too many tourists mainly Aussies, Japanese and a few French. Lots of diving and a good casino.

As for getting yourself in trouble, well I am sure many of you know rugby players add to that I was a Navy Diver and well you get the picture. I am not sure of any vidoes but, that is always possible.

Know the type well, Picard....lived in Monterey for 7 years, dated a couple of Seals, all kinds of military officers and instructors (Naval Postgraduate School), a Marine Harrier pilot (Marines are the craziest of all - dating-wise)....a British rugby player/Naval officer - - - -he brought BOTTLES of wine into the movie theatre -

many years of insanity for me....had to move back home where it is safer! :)

Wow...you guys have been busy....I can't keep up. :o

My appt. isnt till later 3:30 (like Andrea said). Wow girl you are getting good at finding stuff in this thread!!

Be careful or we're gonna start sending you on "errands" to find our lost thoughts. :P

I still have no clue what I'll say at my appt. Guess it'll just be whatever happens to come out of my mouth at the time. I'm pretty sure I'll tell him/her "I'm totally allergic to everything so could you please get rid of these cysts now so I can get on with things...my friend Floridian from the slumber party said it could help." :P Yeah....it'll be something along those lines.

Haha....no wonder I never get anywhere with my doctor visits.

I'm pretty sure they'll schedule me for another ultrasound first before anything. I'm wondering what happens if the cysts are still there but small (under 4 cm)...will they do nothing? What if I want them removed anyway?

I guess by the time I post some of you will already be in bed.

The joint military language institute is also in Monterey. Never made it up that far. My last duty station was Long Beach in 1996.

Wow, memories of drunken hot tub hopping are flooding back!

Picard....Welcome!!! :D

I love when new people join us...and no, this doesnt have to be an all-girl slumber party. :)

Guess you're pretty used to being surrounded by women who talk alot. :P

Rachel--24 Collaborator

I dont have too many "out of control" memories as far as the drinking goes. I did drink quite a bit though....I just didnt lose control too often. I dont think theres any videotapes floating around or anything. B)

I dunno, but for being pretty small all my life...I really could drink....It would take alot of alcohol to get me drunk. Definately not a cheap date.

Maybe I had some malabsorption all along but I just wasnt feeling the alcohol like most would. Its a diferent story now though...I wouldnt trust myself with one beer.

I'm hoping this is temporary cuz if and when I am able to drink again I wanna be able to have full control like I used to...and also be able to drink more than half a drink w/out the room spinning on me. Please say it will go away!!

I hate the flavor :lol: I drink for the effects :P

When I was about 8, my brother gave me a glass of something carbonated and said, "Here, have some ginger ale!"

It was beer. Bleagh. Never could swallow it down after that!

From the article you linked: "Currently, there are no recommended methods to test for non-celiac gluten sensitivity." "No recommended methods" is the key phrase here. Just on the anecdotal evidence of reading many posts on this forum, I think we sometimes see some elevated igg test scores with NCGS. They seem to be mildly elevated in these cases, not high high.

Thank you for your reply. I’m beginning to think of iodine as another culprit in this, as much as I fear it. I will say my rash is extreme and diffuse - it’s everywhere! I first had it on both sides of my neck in the summer of 2023. My PCP and dermatologist at the time, thought it was a reaction to jewelry I was wearing, even though I had been wearing the same necklaces for literally years with no reaction. The dermatologist at the time repeated over and over again that “allergies are acquired.” Which I knew. But I was not reacting to any other jewelry I was wearing. So it didn’t make any sense to me that it would only be from my necklaces. Anyway, it abated on it’s own. Only to come back with a vengeance months later - and I had not worn any necklaces at all. And the rash involved more area. I was put on Prednisone (oral steroid) taper and it worked well, and the itch and eventually the rash went away. Another trip to a different dermatologist at that time, prior to starting the Prednisone, told me to change all of my hygiene products like soap and shampoo, and to slather on Vaseline. None of which worked, hence the Prednisone. Needless to say, the itch and subsequent rash returned - and now spread everywhere, not just the hollows on both sides of my neck. It’s there, on my upper chest and left breast, both upper arms front and back, and elbows, my entire back, down both of my hips and buttocks and the front of my right thigh. Now the back of that right thigh is starting to itch as well. Also my lower right forearm and middle knuckle on my left hand since going gluten free. I’m just itching everywhere all the time. It keeps me awake, or wakes me up when I do fall asleep. I’m trying my best not to scratch, but it’s nearly impossible! I’ve been using a dry washcloth to rub instead of scratching. And I have used cool wet washcloths which help, but only lasts for a few minutes before starting up again. I’m pretty much at my wit’s end. Just waiting for something to indicate what’s really going on so I can do SOMETHING to stop it!

Reply to Russ H, Thank you for your input. As a nurse for 46 years I was aware of much of this. However, as a new member to dermatitis herpetiformis, I have been reading and researching everything I can about it in order to educate and help myself. I was hoping that the oral Dapsone would help to alleviate the itching. I knew the rash would take longer to abate. Instead of relief from the Dapsone, I had adverse reactions so had to stop it. After 2 months on it, if hadn’t helped with the itching at all, and I understand it usually helps in the first few days if it’s going to. My itch and rash actually got worse on the Dapsone and with going gluten free - which lead me to question whether I was getting glutined from other products I am using. It’s like a huge puzzle trying to put all these pieces together to somehow make it fit and make sense. Right now, myself and my doctor are perplexed.
